Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the spatial distribution of the population and examine the level and forms of utilization of prickly pear cactus (Opuntia ficus-indica) by the community in Kupang Regency, NTT. This plant has been proven to grow well in marginal drylands, making it an important biomass resource. The method used was a field survey employing quadrats for population density estimation and structured ethnobotanical interviews across three ecological zones (Coastal, Medium Hills, and Dry Uplands). Spatial analysis was conducted using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to map distribution. The main result shows that Opuntia ficus-indica has a high population density (highest in the Hills Zone: (190 ±  25 Ind/Ha). However, the level of utilization for economic and nutritional value is very low: 91% of respondents only use it as a living fence, 0% use it as livestock feed, and only 2% make use of it as a medicinal plant. The data also indicate an information gap, where 10% of respondents explicitly stated that they did not know any other benefits of this plant besides its physical function. The conclusion emphasizes a significant contradiction between the plant's abundant ecological potential and the minimal adoption of its use. Immediate interventions are needed in the form of introducing thornless varieties and enhancing education to optimize the utilization of Opuntia ficus-indica in Kupang Regency.

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem in toddlers that affects a child's growth and development. This study aims to analyze the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and low birth weight (LBW) with the incidence of stunting in toddlers aged 24–60 months at the Integrated Health Post (Posyandu) in the Penkase Oeleta Health Center area. This study used an analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 30 toddlers selected using accidental sampling techniques. Data were collected through interviews with the toddlers' mothers and measurements of the toddlers' height, and then analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results of the study showed a significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting (p=0.02), as well as between LBW and the incidence of stunting (p=0.00). Toddlers who do not receive exclusive breastfeeding and have a history of low birth weight tend to be at a higher risk of stunting compared to toddlers who receive exclusive breastfeeding and are born with normal birth weight. This study concludes that exclusive breastfeeding and low birth weight are factors associated with the occurrence of stunting in toddlers aged 24–60 months at the Posyandu under the Penkase Oeleta Health Center, thus requiring promotive and preventive efforts through nutrition education and continuous monitoring of maternal and child health.

Abstract

Sexual pleasure related to Intrauterine Device (IUD) can be disturbed during intercourse. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between IUD contraception and sexual pleasure in couples of reproductive age (PUS) at Kusuma Pertiwi Clinic. The research design used in this study is an Analytical Correlational study with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used is Simple Random Sampling. The population consisted of 42 people and the sample comprised 38 people. The independent variable is the IUD contraceptive, and the dependent variable is sexual satisfaction. The statistical test used is Spearman-Rho with a significance value of < 0.05. The research results regarding IUD contraception showed that almost all couples of reproductive age (PUS) felt comfortable after having the IUD inserted, totaling 31 people (81.6%) out of 38 people. Research on sexual satisfaction shows that most couples of reproductive age (CRA) after having an IUD inserted reported sexual satisfaction at a very satisfying level, with 26 people (68.4%) out of 38. Based on the analysis of the relationship using Spearman's Rho, the result obtained a p-value of 0.000 < α = 0.05, which means Ho is rejected, with a correlation coefficient of 0.817, indicating a very strong relationship. The conclusion is that there is a relationship between IUD contraception and sexual pleasure in couples of reproductive age, making IUD users very comfortable during sexual activity.
