Abstract

A field experiment investigating the intercropping of okra with selected vegetables was conducted at the National Agricultural Research Institute (NARI). The study was conducted at the horticultural field of the National Agricultural Research Institute in Yundum. The objective of the study was to assess the effect of okra intercropping with selected vegetables in order to obtain greatest yield and provide better agronomic practices. The field experiment was laid in a RCBD design with four-treatment combination namely: okra intercropped with tomato, okra intercropped with lettuce, okra intercropped with eggplant and the sole of okra. The results showed that there was no significant (P=0.05) interaction between intercropping arrangements and sol okra cropping. Combination of okra with tomato resulted in the higher plant height (23.48 cm) while okra with eggplant resulted in the lowest plant height (18.67 cm). On mean yield, the results indicated that there was no significant (P=0.05) interaction between intercropping arrangements. Okra with tomato supplied resulted in the highest mean yield (571 g per plot) which was not significantly different from sole okra that obtained (343 g per plot). Therefore, to boost okra production, a combination of okra with lettuce will be the best combination package to obtained maximum yield.

Abstract

Moringa Oleifera is classified as a nutraceutical plant due to its nutritional value and medicinal properties. However, it lags behind in popularity compared to Zingiberaceae. Therefore, there is a need for a comprehensive study to explore the benefits and potential use of Moringa Oleifera. This research aims to extensively discuss the applications of Moringa Oleifera as a food and medicine ingredient, based on thorough literature review. The literature was obtained online using Google scholar with relevant keywords such as Moringa Oleifera, uses of Moringa Oleifera, and bioactivities of Moringa Oleifera. The study reveals that Moringa Oleifera demonstrates a broad range of therapeutic effects, including antimicrobial, anticancer, hepatoprotective, anti-diabetes mellitus, and antioxidant activities. It contains significant nutrients and compounds, particularly in the leaves, making it a potential solution for addressing malnutrition. Therefore, Moringa Oleifera presents itself as a promising food alternative that can effectively combat malnutrition while also providing pharmaceutical benefits.

Abstract

Biomechanics is a science that uses the laws of physics and engineering mechanics to be able to examine movements in the body and the effects of forces and moments that occur. Among biomechanical studies, manual material handling (MMH) activities are still considered critical. This research is a research using the method of literature study or literature review. Manual material handling (MMH) is an activity that is done every day by humans. The use of human labor in various activities that are done manually is still very dominant. MMH activities that include lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling have the potential to cause work accidents.

Abstract

Black tea is one of the main products of PTPN XII Sirah Kencong. The black tea produced by this company is processed through CTC (cutting, tearing, and curling). In the process of making CTC black tea, workers is needed because the production process still requires a lot of human assistance. The purpose of this research is to find out how workers  recruitment in PTPN XII Sirah Kencong is done. The research is using a qualitative method with data collection by observation, interview, and literature review. Workers’ recruitment in PTPN XII Sirah Kencong is carried out by the central division of this company if there is a position that will be vacant or in a certain period. The recruitment through internal sources is carried out by observing the careers of workers in the company, and the recruitment through external sources is carried out by holding open recruitment.

Abstract

Purple sweet potato flour can be used as a substitute for wheat flour in donuts, bread, brownies, noodles, cookies, muffins, and other products. Processing purple sweet potato into flour can not only extend its shelf life but also make it easier to process into a variety of food products. With its nutritional content, such as minerals, vitamins, crude fiber, anthocyanin compounds, and antioxidants, sweet potato is very suitable for staple food development. Although purple sweet potato has a lot of potential, commercially it has not been widely used as a raw material for salak seed kolak. One of the problems encountered is the lack of in-depth economic analyses on the manufacture of purple sweet potato flour and its use as a raw material for salak seed kolak. The purpose of this study was to determine the business feasibility of making purple sweet potato flour, variations in drying temperature, and the best drying method, as well as the level of panelist acceptance (sensory test) of sweet potato flour and its application to the resulting salak seed kolak. The research used an experimental design with variations in drying methods and temperatures, namely cabinet dryer with a temperature of 70 OC) and direct sun drying. The results of this study indicate that the business of making sweet potato flour can be declared feasible, seen from the R / C ratio value greater than 1, namely 1.1, and the payback period of 3.6, which is a long time to be able to return investment capital.

Abstract

This research aims to conceive the current condition of the mangrove vegetation community in Penunggul and proposes consideration of the attempt of maintaining the mangrove ecosystem in Penunggul. The primary data including species, density, dominance, and IVI (Important Value Index) are mined through a mangrove resource survey with vegetation analysis technique. Parameters for the study cover water quality including physics, chemical, tidal and soil quality parameters. Samples of the study are taken from three stations, Lawean river mouth, old fish ponds, and an area near the residential. The result of the study shows that Rhizophora mucronata dominates the growth in the research areas. The high scale of dominance and IVI indicates the important role of the species in the environment, such as producing organic materials and seedlings that contribute to the regeneration of mangrove habitats. Moreover, the parameter of water and soil quality shows an optimum scale for mangrove growth.
