Abstract

Since Indonesia removed import tarriff in 1998, the volume of soybean import rised up to 500% in 2004, which naturally become a burden to the national income and become a great hit towards national soybean production. In Februari 2005, the governmet re-enacted soybean import tariff at l0% to l5%. This study was aimed to: conduct a critical analysis towards the Government's new regulation of soybean import tarriff by analyzing its impact consumers' welfare as the producers, consumers' welfare, the Government's income, and society's welfare in general. The result was: based on the currency rate oJ'Rp.9,000/US$, tariff regulation of 10% (citeris paribus) bring impact on the increase of the producer's surplus improvement, Government's income, and society's welfare but resulted in a decrease on consumers' surplus. An increase of tariff up to 27% is still recommended, especially at the currency rate depreciation of Rp. 9,000/U58. Yet, there are risks of decline in the farmer's normal profit and trade off of soybean field with other staple crops.

Abstract

The objectives of this study are (l) to analyze farm household income; (2) to determine factors affecting farm household income in sugarcane area. A cross-section farm survey was conducted in the sugarcane area of Pekalongan District. Two sample sub-districts were selected in this study, one sub-district representing an area having high sugarcane productivity, and the other an area with low productivity. Two sample villages were selected from each sample sub-district, one tillage is nearby the sub-district town, while the other is relatively far Twenty five farm households having lowland allocated for sugarcane farming were randomly chosen as samples from sample village. Regression analysis was applied to estimate farm household income determination function. The results of this study show that the household income for the non-farm employment, sugarcane fanning and the non-sugarcane were Rfi.ai\.so|; Rp1.673.265 and Rp1.476.717. The regression analysis indicates that the total farm household income was positively determined by the sugarcane farm size, dry-land hectarage, family lab or force and wage rate of the non-farm employrnent.

Abstract

This research uses binary logistic regression model to estimate the probabilities of willingness to pay (IITP) of consumer for organic product as premium price. The data was collected through a consumer survey for the organic product purchasers at organic stores in Yogyakarta since October 2005 until January 2006. The model has one dependent variable namely WP as nominal binary variable and seventeen independent variables. Results suggest that 40 ok respondents are willing to pay for organic product. Results also indicate that respondents willing to pay a premium was affected by attitudinal factors, such as risk perception, environmental impacts, opinion on organic food labeling, perceived difference between organic and non-organic, and the potential benefits of organic foods.

Abstract

The effort to improve soybean farm business is related to the increase and the decrease of production due to changes in the usage of production factors. This research was conducted to study why soybean farm business is becoming less popular among farmers, from the economics of production point of view. The research was performed in Playen, Gunung Kidul District, to determine the efficiency of production factors usage, in terms to price. Tb retrieve sample at the sub-District level, villages were selected through Purposive Sampling Method, while 30 samples of farmer were selected randomly. For data analysis, the research used the Efficiency test of price, which is the comparison of MPV and marginal input cost or input price. The result was as follows: seed usage of t count 320.401 > t table 2.432; urea usage of count 69.291, t table 2.432; TSP fertilizer usage of t count 1140.281 > t table 2.432; KCL fertilizer usage of t count 666.949 > t table 2.432; Manure usage of t count 214.473 > t table 2.432; Pesticide usage of t count 1072.317> ttable2.432; Man power usage of t count 15.543> t table 2.43I. As the result show t count > t table 2.432 for all point, meaning the conclusion of this study is the usage of seed, urea, TSP, KCl, manure, pesticide and manpower were still below efficient.

Abstract

The local Segreng red rice has been recognized in Gunung Kidul since the 1940s. Testing was done by tracing Segreng's existence, then selecting, characterizing, and introducing its description during 2005-2007. Testing was done in six villages: (1) Ngeposari, in Semanu Sub-District, (2) Pacareja, in Semanu Sub District, (3) Genjahan in Ponjong Sub-District, (4) Genjahan in Ponjong Sub-District, (5) Sumberwungu, in Tepus Sub-District, and (6) Mulo in Wonosari Sub-District. Qualitative character observation was done on location based on rice plant characterization, vegetative characteristics (height, leaf length, flag leaf width) and generative characteristics (number of cluster number of solid grain, number of hollow grain) and laboratory testing. Research resulted that segreng differed to Aek Sibundong and was a sole variety as to be listed in the genetic resource collection.

Abstract

This research was aimed to study the effect of NPK fertilizer to shallots yield at Bugel area' the research was conducted with completely randomized design consisting two factors. The first factor was nitrogen (N) proportions: l/3, 2/3 and dosages. The second factor was phosphor*potassium proportions: I/3, 2/3 and t dosages. The fertilizer recommendation were 250 kg.ha-1 Urea, 150 kg.ha-1 ZA, TSP and KCL. For comparison purposes; the control plot did not use any fertilizer. The parameters of observation were bulb total, the fresh and dry weight, harvest index and bulb diameter. The data were analyzed by variances and orthogonal contrast 5%. The results showed that there was no significant interaction between nitrogen and phosphor + potassium, level, except bulb total and harvest index. The application of nitrogen and phosphor + potassium was not significant on the yield of fresh bulb, dry bulb and bulb diameter.
