Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze the influence of CEO characteristic towards firms' cash holdings and over-investment of free cash flow. CEO gender is identified as independent variable where cash holdings and over-investment of free cash flow are the dependent variables. Other CEO characteristic such as age, education, tenure, firm size, market-to-book ratio, leverage, cash flow, capex, networking capital, dividend, free cash flow, managerial and state ownership are the control variable. This research used multiple regression on panel data of a sample of 24 companies listed in index LQ45 for the period from 2013 to 2017 with 61 female CEOs and 59 male CEOs in the sample. The research finds a positive significant relationship between female CEOs, cash holdings and over-investment. The results also show that female CEOs are having a higher level of cash holdings and resulted in lower level of over-investment problems. Female CEO also can mitigate the agency problem in the firm. The UET theory is used to support the findings in which CEO characteristic can influence the company,s performance and financial decision. UET literature focuses on executive demographic to explain corporate investment decision while this paper extends the application of the UET in the area of accounting. This research can be useful for companies to provide opportunities to female to reach the executive levels so that the companies can increase the proportion of women in executive levels. It also encourages policy makers to make regulations that address gender issues in organizations.

Abstract

This study aims to implement the emotional demonstration education method for reinforcement of mother's intentions and actions in providing a menu of vegetables and fruit for the family. The main subject in providing a menu of vegetables and fruit in the family is the mother. Therefore, an intervention program is needed in the form of an educational method about the benefits and provision of vegetables and fruits at the household level, which can arouse the emotions, and memories of the mother. The research used quasi-experiment method with the nonequivalent control group design. The target population is 649 people, with a sample of 90 housewives (divided into 2 groups; 45 interventions and 45 controls) in two villages. Pre-post-test measurements were carried out to obtain the strengthening of intention and action aspects in providing vegetables and fruits at the household level. The results showed that there was an increase in the intention of housewives in the intervention group by 6.8 points at the value of p = 0.003, while in the control group, the opposite occurred in the form of a decrease in the score of 6.8 (p = 0.229). In addition, there was also an increase in the percentage of housewives who had good actions after the intervention in the two groups, but the number of percentage increases in the intervention group was much greater at 82.3% (p = 0.000) compared to the control group which was only 2.3% (p = 1.000). It was concluded that the intervention using the emotional demonstration method could strengthen the intention and improve the mother's actions in providing a menu of vegetables and fruit for her family. The study makes recommendations for relevant parties such as the health office, health center, and government at the village level and encourages them to collaborate in promoting educational efforts about the importance of providing a menu of vegetables and fruits with the main goal of mothers using the emotional demonstration method integrated into the community movement program to eat fruits and vegetables.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to investigate the environment in which microfinance is accessed and administered within the United Arab Emirates to groups of female entrepreneurs. As a corollary to this broad objective, the present paper derives two aims of its own: First, it overviews the literature on the institutional context for microfinance in the UAE with a view to synthesizing the deployment approaches for microfinance programs in the UAE. Secondly, it surveys existing literature on the impact of the administration of microfinance programs on women's entrepreneurial motivation and activities in the UAE. This study is qualitative in nature. Data for current study is retrived from secondary sources such as journal articles, periodicals, books and websites. The paper concludes with remarks that highlight the distinctiveness of the impact of gender on microfinance in the UAE with respect to lending methods, loan sizes, repayment levels and subsequent enterprise performance. The findings indicate that by removing the explicit barriers that obstruct the growth of the region's female entrepreneurs, regional governments have an opportunity to fast track an effective transition to having more sustainable economies.

The goal of the study is to critically analyze the implementation the Free Trade Zone (FTZ) policy in Tanjungpinang of Riau Islands Region and to highlight the negative factors or obstacles encountered in the implementation of the policy in the Tanjungpinang. The study focuses on FTZ region in Bintan Island Indonesia, especially in the area of Senggarang and Dompak Region in accordance with Government Regulation No. 47 of 2007. The implementation of FTZ in Tanjungpinang has not shown encouraging as, there is no business or industry in those areas that have been set, especially Senggarang region. For data collection mixed methods have been utilized. Intensive literature review along with interviews is used to gather data. The findings of this study indicate that factors inhibiting the implementation of the FTZ policies in this area legal certainty in land ownership, overlapping FTZ Regulation, lack of infrastructure; roads, ports, limited supply of electricity, and limited water supply. Morever, the weak synergy between the Agency Concession Region Tanjungpinang and principals of some program activity, especially in matters relating to budget authority and the licensing process result in the lack of progress in FTZ implementation. On the basis of these findings recommendations for policy makers and government representatives are given.
