Journal of Applied Science in Tourism Destination (JASTD) is a scientific journal that implements a blinded-peer-review process in handling manuscripts and aims to become a scientific medium for interdisciplinary researchers in the tourism destination sector. Firstly published in 2023, the Center for Research and Community Service in collaboration with Tourism Destination Study Programs of Bali Tourism Polytechnic (Politeknik Pariwisata Bali) committed to publishing the journal twice a year, every April dan October. The considerations in determining scientific articles for publication are based on relevance, clarity, topic, and originality, as well as the extent to which the articles can advance knowledge, understanding, and application and their possible contribution in inspiring further development and research. The journal invites contributions in the following interdisciplinary scope, including: Tourism Destination Impact; Tourism Destination and Attraction Management; Tourism Destination Planning; Branding and Marketing; Digital Tourism Marketing; Competitiveness of Destinations, Products, and Tourism Business; Diversification of tourism products; Creative Tourism; Smart Tourism; Heritage Tourism; Ecotourism; Community-Based Tourism; Sustainable Tourism Development; Wellness Tourism; and Tourist Behavior. The primary objective of JASTD is to provide a platform for researchers, academicians, professionals, practitioners, and students to impart and share knowledge in the form of empirical and theoretical research papers and case studies published.

Abstract

Canggu is one of the areas that has experienced rapid development in the tourism sector. Canggu Village has become a leading tourist destination in Badung Regency, alongside Kuta and Nusa Dua. The development of tourism in Canggu Village has shown significant changes that affect socio-cultural conditions as well as the environment. This study aims to identify the positive and negative impacts of tourism development on the socio-cultural conditions of the local community and on environmental conditions in Canggu Village. This research employs a quantitative approach with descriptive analysis. The sampling technique used was proportional sampling and purposive sampling, involving 100 respondents. Data were collected through a survey using questionnaires, supported by interviews to strengthen the data, as well as documentation. The results indicate that the most significant positive socio-cultural impact perceived by the community is the emergence of a sense of pride in local products and cultural arts that are appreciated by tourists. Meanwhile, the most significant positive environmental impact is the implementation of waste management activities resulting from tourism development in Canggu Village. On the other hand, the community also perceives negative impacts, including the modification of local arts to attract increasing tourist visits, as well as environmental impacts, particularly traffic congestion.

Abstract

Kenderan Tourism Village, which emphasizes local wisdom based on Tri Hita Karana, has the potential to be an important sector in the development of village tourism, with this study aiming to explore the development of tourism destinations based on such local wisdom using qualitative descriptive methods through observation, literature study, and interviews, as well as SWOT and IFAS EFAS analysis; The results showed that development strategies include creating tour packages with collaboration and technology for promotion (SO), training and cooperation with youth to protect the environment and improve facilities (WO), creating regulations for land use change and tourism supervision (ST), and improving human resources and quality of facilities (WT), with an IFAS score of 3.01 (good/strength) and EFAS of 3.10 (good/opportunity), indicating that aggressive strategies, especially the short-term strategy S-O, are the most supportive of Kenderan Village's growth.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of TikTok social media on the visiting intention of domestic tourists to the Kladi Glamping tourism destination in Kintamani, Bangli Regency. The influence of social media is examined both simultaneously and partially through five dimensions of social media engagement, namely Participation, Openness, Conversation, Community, and Connectedness. This research employs a quantitative approach with a simple linear regression analysis method using SPSS software as the analytical tool. Data were collected from 125 domestic tourists who had accessed or interacted with TikTok content related to the Kladi Glamping destination. The results of the analysis indicate that TikTok social media has a significant positive influence on tourists’ visiting intention. This is evidenced by a t-value of 8.855, which exceeds the t-table value of 1.979, and a significance level of 0.000, which is lower than the threshold of 0.05. These findings demonstrate that TikTok serves as an effective promotional medium in shaping tourists’ interest and intention to visit glamping destinations, particularly among domestic tourists. Furthermore, the frequency analysis of each construct reveals that while TikTok content has successfully attracted attention and engagement, there remain aspects that require improvement, especially in terms of physical environmental arrangement and service quality at the destination. Therefore, it is recommended that destination managers optimize the use of TikTok by presenting more informative, interactive, and authentic content, while simultaneously improving on-site facilities and services to enhance tourists’ overall experience. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the development of digital marketing strategies in tourism, particularly in utilizing social media platforms to increase tourist visitation to glamping destinations.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the impact of tourism development on the economic and socio-cultural conditions of the community in Pentingsari Tourism Village, Yogyakarta. The research used quantitative approach with descriptive method. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 178 respondents consisting of the community and tourism actors. Validity and reliability tests were conducted using SPSS to ensure the accuracy and consistency of the instrument. The results showed that tourism provides significant positive impacts such as increased income, job creation, infrastructure development, and cultural preservation. Social impacts include increased community cohesion, awareness of local products, and improved communication skills. However, negative impacts also emerge such as rising prices of goods, inequality of economic benefits, changes in cultural values, and commercialization of sacred traditions. These findings emphasize the importance of a more inclusive and sustainable tourism management strategy. This research is limited to one tourism village and uses data on respondents' perceptions, which may contain bias. Further research is recommended using a mixed approach and comparative studies between regions. Keywords: tourism, economic, social and cultural impacts

Abstract

ABSTRACT Prambanan Temple, as a world cultural heritage site, has great potential for the development of inclusive tourism. However, accessibility for people with disabilities in this area still faces various obstacles, both physical and non-physical. This study aims to analyze accessibility needs that support inclusive tourism at Prambanan Temple using a qualitative approach through field observations, interviews, and literature reviews. The results indicate that while basic facilities such as ramps, adaptive toilets, audio guides, and mobile apps are available, not all areas of the temple are optimally accessible to people with disabilities. Limitations such as access to the temple courtyard, lack of tactile and visual information, and insufficient staff training are the main barriers. Through comparative analysis with international destinations like the Sydney Opera House and Angkor Wat, it was found that strengthening policies, applying universal design principles, and involving the disability community are key to the success of inclusive tourism. Strategic recommendations include developing adaptive infrastructure, improving accessible information services, and training staff to be responsive to the needs of visitors with disabilities. This research is expected to serve as an empirical foundation for realizing Prambanan Temple as an inclusive and socially just cultural destination. Abstract

This study examines how the local community perceives Keraton Solo as a cultural tourism attraction, with particular attention to cognitive, affective, and conative dimensions of perception. Understanding local perceptions is essential, as community attitudes play a critical role in the sustainability and authenticity of heritage tourism destinations. This study adopts a quantitative research design, employing a structured questionnaire distributed to 150 local residents living in and around the Keraton Solo area. The collected data were analyzed using the Importance–Performance Analysis (IPA) method, which enables the identification and prioritization of destination attributes based on their perceived importance and actual performance. The findings indicate that environmental quality, ticket pricing, and spatial attractiveness are considered highly important by local residents but are perceived to perform below expectations, suggesting the need for immediate managerial and policy interventions. In contrast, attributes related to guide performance and overall visitor satisfaction are identified as key strengths that should be maintained and enhanced. Interestingly, no attributes were classified as unimportant, highlighting a strong emotional, cultural, and historical attachment of the local community to Keraton Solo. This study is limited to local community perspectives and does not incorporate the views of tourists, policymakers, or other relevant stakeholders. Future research is therefore encouraged to include a wider range of stakeholder perspectives to support more inclusive, participatory, and effective heritage tourism planning and management strategies.

Abstract

This study explores the characteristics of Generation Z in engaging with yoga and meditation practices, examines the role of wellness practitioners in attracting their interest, and proposes strategic approaches for designing appealing and meaningful wellness experiences. Given Generation Z’s growing influence on lifestyle and wellness consumption, understanding their preferences and behavioral patterns is essential for the sustainable development of the wellness industry. This study adopts a qualitative research design, employing multiple data collection methods to enhance data richness and credibility. Data were collected through in-depth and semi-structured interviews with eight yoga and meditation practitioners, complemented by focus group discussions (FGDs) and a review of relevant literature. The findings indicate that Generation Z constitutes a distinctive and strategically important market segment characterized by strong engagement with digital platforms and social media trends. While they demonstrate high levels of curiosity toward wellness activities, they are also easily distracted and tend to seek novel, visually appealing, and socially interactive experiences. Group-based activities, immersive environments, and experiences that integrate aesthetic and technological elements are particularly effective in capturing their interest. The study further reveals that practitioners who are able to adapt their teaching styles, communication strategies, and program designs to align with Generation Z’s digital-oriented lifestyle and values are more likely to attract and retain this demographic as a primary target in the wellness market. These findings offer practical insights for wellness practitioners and industry stakeholders in developing innovative, Gen Z–oriented yoga and meditation experiences that balance authenticity, engagement, and sustainability.
