Abstract

The appearance of COVID-19 made a significant change on how people live their daily lives by putting the world in a state of a pandemic.  COVID-19 Pandemic affected the health of the people most especially the Older Adults who are more at risk of getting infected. This research aimed to discover the Perceived Level of Knowledge and Level of Acceptance of Older Adults about COVID-19 vaccines as inputs to quality improvement. A quantitative design was employed and a descriptive-correlational method was utilized to describe and correlate the relationship of demographic profile of the Older Adults and their perceived level of knowledge and level of acceptance regarding COVID-19 vaccination. This study determined that older adults are mostly in their 2nd  dose of vaccine and with booster dose, they belong in the age group of 60-65 years old, female, married and are high school and college graduates. A total of one hundred and fifty-seven of older Adults participated in the study. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the demographic profile of the respondents while Eta coefficient and Eta squared were used to determine the relationship of demographic profile and the perceived level of knowledge and acceptance in view of the findings of the study. The results of the study suggest that the perceived level of knowledge and level of acceptance on COVID-19 vaccines were significantly correlated, r = .321, p < .05. This means that there is a positive weak correlation between perceived level of knowledge and level of acceptance. That is, the higher a person’s perceived level of knowledge about COVID-19 vaccines, the more likely they are to accept it. Appropriate health plan about convincing more older adults to get vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine particularly in the factors that address their common concerns. Also, to debunk myths that are known to many, and provide older adults with factual knowledge or information regarding the COVID-19 vaccines for them to accept in getting vaccinated.

Abstract

The Butterfly Hug Method is a non-pharmacological therapeutic intervention that is used to return the hyperaroused mind into a relaxed state. However, a small number of studies have been conducted to examine the effects of the butterfly hug method to the mental health status of senior citizens. This study aimed to determine the Effects of the Butterfly Hug Method on the Mental Health Status of Senior Citizens. The study employed quantitative true-experimental research design. The study was conducted in a selected healthcare facility located in Caloocan City, Philippines. Simple random sampling was utilized to select and divide the participants into two groups, experimental group and control group. The sample was composed of 10 participants. Data were collected using the adopted tools, Patient Health Questionnaire - 9 (PHQ-9) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder - 7 (GAD-7). Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics, particularly mean and standard deviation. Inferential statistics was utilized, particularly using paired t-test and independent sample t-test. There is no significant difference between the post test results of the control group and the experimental group. Both interventions, Standard of Care (Physical Activity) and Butterfly Hug Method, were effective in reducing the levels of anxiety and depression in senior citizens. Both interventions were able to reduce the level of anxiety and depression in senior citizens. Regardless that there is no significant difference between the effectiveness of the standard of care in the control group and the butterfly hug method in the experimental group, it has been established that the score and level of depression and anxiety of the participants in the experimental group was reduced. Thus, the Butterfly Hug Method is beneficial to senior citizens in improving the levels of their mental health status.

Abstract

Smartphones are a form of technology that is growing rapidly. The use of Smartphones has various impacts on users, especially school-age children. One of the impacts that can occur from using Smartphones on school-age children is the inhibition of psychosocial development. This research was conducted to determine the relationship between the level of Smartphone addiction and the psychosocial development of school-age children in agricultural areas. The method used in this study is by using a cross-sectional approach. Sampling using a simple random sampling technique obtained a sample of 150 respondents. Data collection used the SAS-SV questionnaire and the psychosocial development questionnaire. This study used a relationship test, namely the Kendal-Tau test c. The study results showed that students with Smartphone addiction were in the 106 (70.7%) addiction category and 44 (29.3%) non-addictive categories. While the psychosocial development of children in the abnormal category was 86 (57.3%), the borderline category was 28 (18.7%), and the normal category was 36 (24%). These results show that the p-value obtained is 0.000 or a p-value <0.05. It can be said that there is a relationship between the level of Smartphone addiction and psychosocial development. In addition, the value of strength in both relationships is 0.340. This value is included in the weak category. So, the relationship between the two variables is included in the weak category. Then, the level of correlation shows positive results, namely the higher the level of smartphone addiction, the worse the psychosocial development of children.

Abstract

Family participation in JKN (National Health Insurance in Indonesia) is an indicator of PIS-PK (Healthy Indonesia Program - Family Approach). JKN is also part of the National Health System (SKN) whose management consists of eight subs, one of which is management. The management theory put forward by Marquis and Huston consists of five processes, namely planning, organizing, manpower, directing, and controlling. The organizing section includes several activities, including equipment preparation and logistics. Therefore, this study intends to analyze the relationship between family participation in JKN and the fulfillment of the care logistics. This study used a correlational analysis design with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used simple random sampling on 172 families. The instrument uses JKN membership and access questionnaires (Riskesdas, 2018) to measure the fulfillment of family care logistics. The results show that the fulfillment of family care logistics refers to 3 things, namely distance, time, and transportation models. Based on this, the results of the analysis of family participation in JKN with the fulfillment of family care logistics in the working area of the Sumbersari Health Center, Jember Regency, using the Chi-Square test, three references are seen, namely in terms of distance, time, and transportation models. Distance shows p-value=0.32 (>0.05), time 0.001 (<0.005), and transportation model 0.00 (<0.005). This shows that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted or that there is a relationship between the two variables. Logistics for family care in the Sumbersari Health Center, Jember Regency's working area are sufficiently fulfilled. There is a relationship between family participation in JKN and fulfillment of family care logistics in the working area of the Sumbersari Health Center, Jember Regency. The JKN participation coverage and education on the importance of participating in JKN can continue to be increased.

Abstract

Entering old age, more and more diseases attack the elderly, including high blood pressure. Most people with hypertension don't know they have hypertension because it has no symptoms, so it's often called the silent killer. Elderly people must adhere to treatment in cases of hypertension, especially by taking antihypertensive drugs. The problem faced by elderly people with hypertension is that most of them do not adhere to their medication. The behavior of following a doctor's advice comes from beliefs or perceptions. The health belief model is one of the theories based on faith. This study aimed to analyze the factors affecting medication adherence in the elderly with hypertension as a function of health belief regimen. This study uses a type of quantitative research. The study design used descriptive analysis with a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of 107 elderly people with a sample of 100 elderly people with hypertension in the work area of Jenggawah Primary Health Center. The study will be conducted from April to May 2023. The instrument used in the study is a questionnaire. Based on the test results by SPSS using a logistic regression test with α of 0.05, perceived susceptibility p-value of 0.003, p-value of perceived severity of 0.036, p-value of perceived benefit is 0.682 observed, perceived barriers are found to be p-value 0.216, self-efficacy p value 0.081, cues to action p value 0.746. Based on the study results, it can be concluded that there is an influence of the perception of susceptibility and the perception of severity on the adherence to drug treatment in the elderly with hypertension.

Abstract

Nurses who work in shifts may face poor sleep quality and oppressive fatigue. The purpose of this study was to clarify Chinese medicine constitution that influences sleep quality and fatigue among Chinese nurses engaged in shift work. Considering that these conditions might differ according to living environments, studies were conducted both in Japan and China. Data were gathered using the attributes of nurses, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index to evaluate sleep quality, the Jikaku-sho shirabe to evaluate fatigue, and the Constitution in Chinese Medicine Questionnaire, which evaluates Chinese medicine constitution according to nine criteria. The survey was conducted via internet, with data analyzed from 100 Chinese subjects in Japan and 100 Chinese subjects in China. Increase in age, living in China, Qi-deficiency constitution and Blood-stasis constitution were causal factors for lower sleep quality. Sleep quality was significantly lower among nurses in China than those in Japan. The following factors were observed to be causal factors for increased fatigue: longer histories of working in shifts, living in Japan, poorer quality sleep, Qi-deficiency constitution, Yang- and Yin-deficiency constitution, Qi-stagnation constitution and Inherited special constitution. Nurses in Japan showed significantly greater fatigue at the end of a night shift than did those in China. It is suggested that adjustments of Qi-deficiency constitution and Blood-stasis constitution can improve sleep quality in nurses who work in shifts. We believe that improving sleep quality and making adjustments to the five types of Chinese medicine constitution can work to reduce fatigue.

Abstract

Health volunteers are selected based on their community knowledge, even with limited formal education. They play crucial roles including complex and technical tasks, such as recording and reporting. The aim of this study was to compare the competency in recording and reporting among health volunteers based on their education qualifications. A cross-sectional survey was conducted at a subdistrict hospital in Thailand. Data were collected using the newly developed questionnaire from a purposive sample of health volunteers (N=70). Competency differences were assessed using non-parametric statistics between 44 volunteers with primary education and 26 with secondary education or higher. A total of 70 health volunteers were included in the analyses, yielding a participation rate of 95.9% (70 out of 73). The majority of participants were female (84.3%) and the average age was 57.5 years. Those with secondary education or higher demonstrated significantly better competency in recording and reporting community health status (p = .01). The findings emphasize the need to enhance competency among health volunteers with lower education levels. Nurses in primary care settings can provide guidance, training, and continuous support to empower health volunteers for effective performance.
