Abstract

Study on meteorological water balance in Keduang watershed, Central Java, aimed to find a balance between the need and meteorological availability of water in the Keduang watershed. Water demand is calculated by using the standard water requirements for this type of irrigation and non-irrigation needs. Types of non-irrigation water requirements include the need for water for domestic, office buildings, health facilities, lodging / hotels, educational facilities, religious facilities, industries, and markets, as well as livestock. Standards need water used is ISO 19-6728.1-2002 and Planning Criteria DGHS Department of Public Works in 1996. The availability of water is calculated using the water balance approach meteorological Turc-Langbein. The data used is the data in 2013 and analyzed using quantitative description. The results showed that 1) the need for water in the Keduang watershed 81,063,567.42 m3 / year, while 2) the availability of water in the meteorological amounted 280,160,992.62 m3 / year so that the difference amounted to 199,097,425.19 water m3 / year. From the results of these calculations, we can conclude that the water availability in the Keduang watershed is sufficient for fullfilling the water requirements. Abstract

As a natural component, land is considered to be very essential factor of watershed system, as well as plant and human life. In fact, improper land using leads to land degradation that causes negative effect to watershed ecosystem. Therefore, the right land management system is needed. The objective of the research is to study land degradation carried by social activities in Tulis Watershed. The parameters under study were social-economic, land management, and biophysical in Tulis Watershed. The parameters were obtained by using observation and document study. Theoretic analysis was done to know relation between social activity in land using and land degradation of Tulis Watershed. Social theories were used as basic theory in structure and society’s behavior concept in land management. Meanwhile, land degradation theories were applied as basic theory in analyzing land-use system. Land use system of Potatoes monoculture plantation system used by most people in Tulis Watershed increased land degradation. Therefore, proper land management and social norms obedience were expected be able to decrease land degradation, so they benefited the societies living in social, economy, and environment. In other words, land management system had to assure sustainable watershed ecosystem and increase society’s welfare in Tulis Watershed. Key words: Watershed, degradation, social activity, land management, potatoes

Abstract

Watershed management is part of sustainable national development and its implementation have to synergistically with other development sectors. Coordination among stakeholders is fundamental framework that must be done to achieve the objectives and targets of sustainable watershed management. Ngrancah Sub watershed is the catchment area of Sermo Dam. The area of Ngrancah Sub Watershed is almost 2110 hectares. The existence of vital object, Sermo Dam, signalled the need for Ngrancah Sub Watershed management in a sustainable way. In this regard , need to identification and analysis the role of stakeholders in sustainable Ngrancah Sub Watershed management. The objectives of this research : (1) to identify stakehoders involved in Ngrancah Sub Watershed management; (2) to analyse the role of each stakeholder in Ngrancah Sub Watershed management. Stage analysis : identify all stakeholder involved/interest/influenced in Ngrancah Sub Watershed managament; classify stakeholders based on to their role in operational of Ngrancah Sub Watershed management into 3 categories (Primary, secondary and tertiary); identify each category of stakeholder according to : (1) Characteristic of social and economic status , the structure of the organization , duties and responsibilities;(2) problems : needs, interst, objectives; (3) potency : resources owned, knowledge, experiences; (4) Involvement in the implementation of the program : beneficiary, support, resistence; each stakehoder would be examined, especially for “important” stakeholder in term of influence and the interests of their involvement in Ngrancah Sub Watershd management and its affecting the success of the program. What is meant by interest in here is how problems, needs and interest of stakeholders in line with watershed management. Result of stakehoders identification, there are 23 stakeholders involve in ngrancah sub watershed management which divided into 13 primary stakeholders, 3 secondary stakeholders, and 7 tertiary stakeholders. The success of sustainable management can be done by synergies among stakeholders. Regional Planning Office of Kulon Progo District (BAPPEDA) and Serayu Opak Progo Watershed Management Office become a leading sector in ngrancah sub watershed management. Key Words : Watershed, sustainable watershed management, stakeholder

Abstract

Land is a natural resource with a limited number so that the utilization of this resource should consider its ability to be able to produce sustainably. Inappropriate use may result in land degradation as indicated by the amount of erosion. This study aims to (1) evaluate the land use capability (LUC) classes and their conformity with the actual land use, (2) determine the impact of mismatches between the LUC classes and actual land use on erosion. Study was conducted in Tapan and Ngunut I Sub-Sub-watershed, Karanganyar District, Central Java. Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) was used to predict the potential erosion on the area while modified FAO method was used to analyze LUC. The results showed that the percentage of disagreement between LUC class and with actual land use in Tapan was 23% while in Ngunut was only 0.02%. The percentages of those disagreements have no effect on the magnitude of the annual erosion. Annual erosion in Tapan (15.12 tonnes / ha) is still smaller than in Ngunut I (25.63 tonnes / ha). Composition of land cover types and land management affect the amount of erosion. Cultivation of crops at dry land and land tillage during growing season in accordance with the rainy season has great contribution on erosion. Keywords : Unsuitability, land covers, LUC, erosion

Abstract

Conducted in peatland forest of Central Kalimantan, Kalampangan, the aim of this research is to study about the distribution of peatland thickness and peatland traits based on peatland thickness differences and the depth of sampling test. Determination of plots are carried out by the path system which is parallel with river. Derived from 12 different points of observation, the result show peatland thickness variations. The range of thickness is between 3,72m – 6,2m. Those peatland thickness is categorized as very deep. Distance from river does not determine the number of thicknesss. Maturity level of the peat is categorized as hemic and sapric. The average volume in 100cm depth is0,15 g.cm-3 and 0,23 g.cm-3 in 50cm depth. Peatland thickness affects moisture content and total Fe. Peatland depth affects moisture content, volume and total Cu. The moisture content and total Cu are lower in 50cm depth compare to 100cm depth. On the other hand, the volume is higher in 50cm depth. Interaction between peatland thickness and sampling test depth affects moisture content and total N content. The highest moisture content is in 4m and 6m thickness and in 100cm depth. Keywords : Deep peat, thickness distribution, physics and chemistry traits
