Abstract

This engineering practice report presents the planning of a 3 MW Ground-Mounted Solar Power Plant (PV) integrated with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) for the isolated electricity system of Bawean Island, East Java, Indonesia. The study focuses on the energy yield assessment using PVSyst simulation to estimate long-term electricity generation and evaluate the technical feasibility of the proposed system. Solar irradiation data, photovoltaic system configuration, system losses, and Probability of Exceedance (P50, P75, and P90) analyzes were employed to assess energy performance. The simulation indicates an average annual energy production of 5,800.88 MWh, 5,680.34 MWh, and 5,571.61 MWh for P50, P75, and P90 scenarios, respectively, with a performance ratio exceeding 75%. To support the load-shifting strategy, a usable BESS capacity of 7,200 kWh is required, including battery augmentation during operation to compensate for capacity degradation. The proposed PV-BESS configuration demonstrates strong technical potential to improve renewable energy utilization and reduce diesel fuel dependency in Bawean's isolated power system.
