Abstract

Land surface temperature (LST) is one primary parameters energy balance on the surface and also as primary climatology variable that controlling long-wave energy flux through atmosphere. The LST data is needed for drought estimating models which based on calculating of soil moisture lavel and/or evapotranspiration. TERRA satellite that brings sensor MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) is an evironmental. Observation satellite that can be used for extracting LST data regionally. The MODIS relatively has width coverage; 2330 Km, and spatial resolution 250 m (1 and 2 channel) with high spectral resolution (36 channels), and temporal resolution that almost similar to the previous generation satellite called NOAA.

Abstract

Tsunami disaster caused great damages and very large victims especially when occurs in urban area along. Therefore information of evacuation in a map is very important for disaster preparedness in order to minimize the number of victims in affected area. Here, information generated from remote sensing satellite data (Landsat, SPOT-5 nad DEM) and secondary data (administration boundary and field survey data) are used ti simulate evacuation route and to produce a map for Padang City. Vulnerability and evacuation areas are determined based on information of maximum tsunami height in shoreline and topography condition. Landuse/landcover and infrastructure (road, bridge and building) are extracted from SPOT data. All the data obtained from remote sensing and secondary data are integrated using geospatial modeling to simulate tsunami evacuation routes. The simulation of evacuation route in Padang City for tsunami preparedness is provided by considering river line, shelters and save zone, available infrastructur (road), the shortest distance (to shelters and save zone) and local community experiences.

Abstract

Very high spatial resolution of remote sensing data have been used in many planning and evalution at detail settlement area. Therefore geometric accuracy of formal and informal housing at Sub-Province of Bekasi. Procedure research cosist of digital image processing, visual interpretation and delineation of formal and informal housing, while accuracy analysis which it's comparison by field survey. Result interpretation and delineation of building housing area have achieve acuracy 88%. This is indicating that very high spatial resolution remote sensing data have useful and suitable for application are related of detail aspect.

Abstract

This paper explores ome of the experiences of freshwater resources management alternative in Nunukan Island, using remote sensing technologies and geographic information system. Freshwater resources in many small islands depend upon the rainfall. Nunukan Island is a small island with problems of freshwater severe. Nunukan Island have very high population densities in the urban area that place great stress on their water resources. The main influences on the natural freshwater resources are physiography, climate, rainfall, evaportranspiration, and geologycal condition. Freshwater resources management alternative in this study base on approach of water, augmenting freswater for indicate water suplly, and water efficiency for general purposes.

Abstract

ALOS satellite was launched on January 24th 2006 and is equipped by PRISM sensor which has a mission to produce stereoscopic image. PRISM is a panchromatic radiometer with 2.5 spatial resolution, and it has 3 telescopes for recording the image from nadir, forward and backward view is known as stereoscopic image which is usefull to generate earth surface height or DEM (Digital Elevation Model). Automatic DEM extraction was done by area based matching technique using PRISM DEM software. This technique correlates area/pixel in master image with same are/pixel in target image based based on grey value similarity of pixel. Relief displacement (parallax) of each area/pixel was extracted from the correlation process, and then it was used to generate earth surface height or DEM. The generated DEM was compared with reference data (SRTM X and C band) to analyze the level of DEM accuracy. The result shows that DEM from automatic extraction needs geoids correction (Eart surface relief correction). After doing the correction, the DEM has similar distribution height but smoother DEM pattern than referenced DEM. Finally, RMSE of PRISMDEM are around 16 m relative to the referenced DEM.

Abstract

Land cover analysis plays an important role in many environmental applications nowadays. The objective of this study is to assess the capability if Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) scene for land cover mapping over Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) provonce, Indonesia. Standard supervised classification techniques were used in this study namely maximum likelihood, minimum distance-to-mean, parallelepiped and parallelepiped (with Maximum Likelihood Tie Resolution) by using PCI Geomatica 9.1 image processing software. The accuracy of each classification map was assessed using the reference data set consistend of a large number of samples collected per category. The result from this multispectral classification analysis of this study area indicated that urban features could be cleanly identified and classified relative to the surrounding terrain and its associated desert features. In this study, Kappa statistic and overall accuracy were calculated and compared for the three supervised classification technoques. Geometric correction was performed for the digital image using the nearest neighborhood method with second order polynomial. This indicates that land features can be carried out using remote sensing classification method of the MODIS imagery.

Abstract

On the transition of operational Geostationary Meteorological Satellite GMS-5 to MTSAT-1R, HiRID’s data packet was introduced. HiRID uses the same frame as of the S-VISSR, with some modifications to accommodate the additional information because of performance improvement of its data imaging system. Performance improvement of instrument is associated with addition of IR4 channel and radiometric resolution improvement of infrared channel to 10 bits/ pixel. The operating lifetime of HiRID as transition data packet to the MTSAT-1R HRIT is limited in the view of giving a grace period to the Earth station operators to upgrade the receiving systems towards HRIT operationalization. This paper reviews the efforts to obtain MTSAT-1R HiRID data and adjustments made in the sub-receiver systems, sub-system of data pre-processing. The discussion includes a glance of RF system integration, data extraction techniques and information extraction of documentation sector, focusing the discussion on the different of structures of HiRID data packets and S-VISSR as well as techniques that are applied to extract image data and any information contained therein. Abstract

Development on Remote Sensing field requires an optimal data compression technique to result high compression ratio but prevent data quality, so the data still be accepted on application remote sensing. One of the newest compression technique is hybrid compression that combine the reduction spectral redundancy and the reduction spatial redundancy. On this research will propose the improvement of hybrid technique compression for multiband MODIS data which developed by Yuan-Xiang Li, et.al (IEEE 2007). The improvement is by selecting better reference band for band prediction, skip the prediction band for unpredictable band and propose to use higher decomposition wavelet level will get better the compression performance. The Simulation result is the linier interband prediction with skip band will get the high value of PSNR ( 40 dB) and high compression ratio (80). The result of the compression will be used for remote sensing application of the MODIS data, specially for global earth observation.
