Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to design and evaluate a batch reactor for industrial-scale production of Stannous Chloride (SnCl2) from Indonesian tin resources, supporting downstream processing of tin into higher-value chemical products.Methodology: A computational design approach was applied using sequential chemical engineering equations in Microsoft Excel. The process is based on the reaction between Tin (Sn) and Hydrochloric Acid (HCl). The reactor is designed as a cylindrical batch vessel with a dished top and conical bottom, made of stainless-steel SA 240 Grade 316. Operating conditions include 80°C, 1 atm, and 1-hour batch time, with 1,000 kg/h tin feed and 95% conversion. Mass balance, sizing, and mechanical design calculations were performed, including stirrer specifications. Results: The reactor has a volume of 29.0184 ft³, diameter of 2.7889 ft, and height of 5.6690 ft. Mass balance yields 1,517.31 kg/h SnCl? and 16.13 kg/h H?. The system uses a 2 Hp axial turbine stirrer with 16.7334 in impeller diameter.Conclusions: The designed reactor demonstrates technical feasibility for industrial SnCl? production and complies with ASME pressure vessel standards.Limitations: The model does not include effectiveness factors for diffusion limitations in heterogeneous reactions. Contributions: This study provides a validated engineering design reference for SnCl? production and supports downstream tin industry development in Indonesia

Abstract

Purpose: Polyethersulfone (PES) membranes are widely used in filtration and gas separation due to their strong thermal, mechanical, and chemical stability. However, no comprehensive bibliometric mapping of PES membrane research has been conducted. This study aims to analyze publication trends, research quality, influential works, and thematic evolution in PES membrane literature from 2012 to 2022.Methodology: Bibliometric data were retrieved from Google Scholar using Publish or Perish with keywords related to Chemistry, Particle, PES, and Membrane, covering 1,000 articles (2012–2022). VOSviewer was used for analysis through network visualization (co-word clustering), overlay visualization (temporal trends), and density visualization (research intensity). A minimum co-occurrence threshold of five keywords produced 170 significant terms.Results: Publications increased from 55 in 2012 to 123 in 2020, averaging about 90 papers annually. Of 1,000 articles, 77.8% were published in Q1 journals, with Elsevier contributing 61.4%. Eight thematic clusters were identified, highlighting mixed matrix membranes and MOF-based membranes as dominant research directions.Conclusions: PES membrane research shows strong growth and high publication quality, evolving toward advanced mixed matrix and MOF/COF-based membrane technologies.Limitations: The dataset is limited to Google Scholar, partial 2022 coverage, and keyword constraints that may exclude relevant studies.Contributions: This study provides the first bibliometric baseline for PES membrane research, mapping trends, quality distribution, and thematic evolution to guide future research directions.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to determine and analyze the compressive strength of K250 and K300 concrete cylindrical specimens tested at 28 days, and to explain the mechanism by which differential curing methods applied to the two grades produced counterintuitive strength outcomes in the context of a nuclear technology education facility.Methodology: Compressive testing was conducted on five K250 and five K300 concrete cylindrical specimens (diameter 150 mm x height 300 mm) at 28 days using a Cernusco Compression Testing Machine (Model 20063). K250 specimens underwent 28-day continuous water immersion, whereas K300 specimens received only ambient air curing from the date of casting. Compressive strength values were recorded, group means were computed, and results were compared against design strength targets per PBI 1971.Results: K250 water-cured specimens produced a mean compressive strength of 346.28 kg/cm², exceeding the 250 kg/cm² design target by 38.5%. Air-cured K300 specimens attained only 287.87 kg/cm², falling below their 300 kg/cm² design target, resulting in K250 outperforming K300 by 58.41 kg/cm².Conclusions: Curing method overrides nominal mix design grade as the controlling determinant of 28-day compressive strength. Limitations: The small sample of five specimens per grade and the absence of controlled mix design parameters limit generalizability.Contributions: This study provides an empirical case study of the compressive strength consequences of differential curing conditions on K250 and K300 concrete, offering practical evidence for construction quality control protocols in nuclear technology and general engineering facility contexts.

Abstract

Purpose: Water User Farmers Associations (P3A) manage tertiary irrigation systems in Indonesia, yet the relative importance of technical capability versus service quality for irrigation performance remains unclear. This study examines the effects of P3A technical capability and service quality on irrigation performance in Patawang, East Sumba.Research Methodology: Research used quantitative descriptive correlational design. Data from 33 respondents across 11 P3A organisations were selected by sampling. Variables include irrigation performance (Y), technical capability (X1), and service quality (X2). Data were analysed using multiple linear regression in SPSS with validity, reliability, and assumption tests.Results: The multiple linear regression model was significant (F = 7.904, F-table = 3.32, p = 0.002). R² = 0.345 indicates 34.5% explanatory power. P3A Technical Capability significantly affects performance (? = 0.631, t = 2.803, p = 0.009), while Service Quality is not significant (? = ?0.146, t = ?0.488, p = 0.629). Equation: Y = 12.341 + 0.631X1 ? 0.146X2Conclusions: P3A technical capability is the main determinant of irrigation performance in irrigation performance while service quality is not significant. Strengthening technical capacity through training in water management, canal maintenance, and scheduling is the priority for sustainable irrigation improvement. Limitations: Limited to respondents reducing generalisability Model explains 34.5% variance other factors such as infrastructure coordination and funding were not included. Contributions: Provides evidence on P3A capability versus service quality effects in Eastern Indonesia irrigation management.

Abstract

Purpose: Yogyakarta, a leading Indonesian literary centre, lacks a purpose-built facility for literary appreciation activities such as reading, discussion, performance, and critical engagement. This study designs a Literary Appreciation Building accommodating these activities through an architectural metaphor inspired by A.A. Navis's Robohnya Surau Kami, translating its literary values into architectural form.Research Methodology: A qualitative design methodology employed a paradigm to concept framework, comprising thematic analysis of the short story, application of Antoniades's in 1990 Intangible Metaphor framework, and site analysis to develop strategies for massing, landscape, circulation, organisation, structure, and materials.Results: The design proposes a two-mass building on a 1.9-hectare site in Pakualaman, Yogyakarta, with a gross floor area of 3,809 m². The main building reflects the collapsing surau through a twisted façade, while the auditorium represents Ajo Sidi through a slanted roof and curved form. A pedestrian bridge connects both masses, symbolising reconciliation.Conclusions: The Intangible Metaphor approach proposed by Antoniades in 1990 effectively translates literary values into architectural design, enabling the building to embody its literary subject.Limitations: This study presents a conceptual design; construction and post-occupancy evaluation are needed to validate its effectiveness.Contributions: This study presents a replicable method for translating literary metaphor into architecture, contributing to the application of intangible metaphor in cultural building design.
