Abstract

This article offers a critical review of Karl Marx’s contribution to understanding contemporary social realities in Indonesia, particularly in relation to structural inequality generated by global capitalism. The author examines key Marxian concepts such as class conflict, alienation, ideology, and false consciousness, while critically assessing both their limitations and their practical applicability within the local context. Employing a qualitative approach and thematic analysis of recent literature, the article emphasizes the importance of rereading Marx in order to develop a theoretical framework that is not only critical but also context-sensitive. It argues that Marx’s thought remains relevant, yet requires reinterpretation that is attentive to Indonesia’s socio-political dynamics.

Abstract

Despite the extensive global influence of Pierre Bourdieu’s sociology, systematic analyses of the relevance and contextual application of his theoretical framework within contemporary Indonesian society remain limited. This study addresses this problem by examining how Bourdieu’s core concepts habitus, field, various forms of capital, and symbolic violence are utilized to explain social relations and power dynamics in Indonesia. The aim of this article is to assess the relevance and explanatory capacity of Bourdieu’s theory in Indonesian social research, particularly in the fields of education, gender relations, and state institutional practices. This study employs a qualitative research design based on a systematic literature review of open-access scholarly articles indexed in Dimensions.ai and Scopus-reputable publications accessed via Google Scholar. Data were analyzed thematically by identifying patterns in the application of Bourdieusian concepts across selected studies. The findings indicate that Bourdieu’s theoretical framework remains highly relevant for understanding social inequality, cultural domination, and symbolic forms of power in contemporary Indonesia. The study demonstrates that Bourdieu’s relational approach enables a nuanced analysis of how domination is reproduced through everyday practices, cultural norms, and institutional structures, thereby offering a critical lens for interpreting the multilayered complexities of Indonesian society.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of cafe atmosphere, menu variety, and price on customer satisfaction at Cafe Kopi Kita in West Tulang Bawang. The rapid growth of the culinary sector has led to intense competition, requiring business owners to understand the factors driving customer satisfaction. This research employs a quantitative approach. The population includes all customers of Cafe Kopi Kita, with a sample of 138 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected via questionnaires and analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS. The results indicate that cafe atmosphere and price have a significant partial effect on customer satisfaction. However, menu variety does not significantly influence satisfaction. Simultaneously, cafe atmosphere, menu variety, and price significantly affect customer satisfaction. The Adjusted R Square value of 0.436 indicates that these variables explain 43.6% of the variation in customer satisfaction. This suggests that to maximize satisfaction, the management should focus more on enhancing the physical environment and maintaining competitive pricing strategies rather than excessively expanding menu variations.

Abstract

Cenderawasih ecotourism management in Papua represents a strategic approach to conserving endemic species while enhancing local community livelihoods. In Amai, Tablasupa Village, Jayapura Regency, ecotourism development faces challenges related to legal status, cross-sector coordination, community participation, human resource capacity, funding, and program innovation. This study aims to formulate an effective, participatory, and sustainable institutional model for ecotourism management that supports habitat conservation and local economic empowerment. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, using in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. Data were analyzed thematically to identify key institutional elements, including legal frameworks, stakeholder coordination, community involvement, capacity building, funding mechanisms, transparency, and innovation. The findings indicate that successful ecotourism management depends on formal legal support through village regulations and government policies, strong cross-sector collaboration among government, communities, academics, and the private sector, and active community participation using a pentahelix approach. Strengthening human resource capacity, diversifying funding through partnerships, and integrating research-based environmental education enhance sustainability.

Abstract

This study examines the integration of local ecological knowledge into bird-of-paradise conservation strategies in the Tabi and Saireri customary areas. Using qualitative methods and an ethnographic approach, as well as case studies, the study aims to understand how local indigenous communities manage and conserve birds of paradise through local wisdom practices. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and focus group discussions with indigenous elders, traditional hunters, and other community members who play an active role in bird conservation. Data analysis was conducted thematically to identify values, knowledge systems, and customary rules that support bird-of-paradise conservation. The results show that local ecological knowledge plays a significant role in maintaining the bird's habitat and regulating human activities that could potentially threaten the species' survival. This conservation strategy, based on local knowledge, considers not only ecological aspects but also social and cultural aspects, thus creating a sustainable and community-acceptable approach. These findings underscore the importance of integrating local knowledge into modern conservation policies for effective and sustainable conservation efforts. This study recommends that governments and conservation agencies better value and engage indigenous communities as strategic partners in natural resource management and biodiversity conservation, particularly for birds of paradise, in the Tabi and Saireri customary territories.

Abstract

The development of heritage tourism areas requires an approach that focuses not only on physical preservation, but also on governance, technology utilization, and regional sustainability. This study aims to analyze the development of Surabaya Old Town Tourism in terms of the Smart City concept through six main pillars, namely Smart Governance, Smart Branding, Smart Economy, Smart Living, Smart Society, and Smart Environment. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection techniques through field observations, interviews with related parties, as well as documentation and literature studies. Data analysis was carried out using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research results show that the development of Surabaya's Old Town Tourism has led to the implementation of the Smart City concept, although the level of implementation varies across pillars. The Smart Branding and Smart Economy pillars show relatively strong achievements through digital promotion, cultural events, and the growth of MSMEs and creative economy activities. The Smart Governance pillar has been supported by regional revitalization policies and the use of digital services, but has not been fully integrated. Meanwhile, the implementation of Smart Living, Smart Society, and Smart Environment still faces several challenges, particularly in terms of regional security, the sustainability of community participation, and the limited green space and shading elements. Overall, the six Smart City pillars are interconnected and form a heritage tourism area management system, so a more integrated, sustainable, and participatory development strategy is needed to increase the competitiveness of Surabaya's Old Town Tourism.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has driven the transformation of public services towards a more effective, efficient, and transparent system. One form of public service digitalization is the implementation of online driver's license (SIM) services through the National Precision Driver's License (SINAR) application developed by the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of online driver's license services on public services in the digital era, particularly at the Sidoarjo Police Headquarters. The research method used is a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation involving 10 informants consisting of officers from the Sidoarjo Police Headquarters and the community as service users. Data analysis was carried out using a flow analysis model which included data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show that the Online Driver's License service at the Sidoarjo Police Headquarters has been running well and effectively, in terms of timeliness, officer accuracy, and the manner of providing services to the community. Although there are still obstacles such as delays in printing due to running out of blank forms and technical problems, officers are able to provide solutions in the form of temporary driver's licenses so as to maintain public satisfaction. Thus, the Online Driver's License service contributes positively to improving the effectiveness of public services in the digital era.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of public transportation services in Sidoarjo Regency through the lens of the New Public Service (NPS) perspective to identify barriers and drivers of service quality. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews with the Transportation Agency, transportation managers, and users, as well as through direct observation and a review of policy documents. The results indicate that the implementation of NPS principles in Sidoarjo Regency remains partial and has not been fully integrated into bureaucratic practices. The local government tends to use a technocratic approach that is reactive and oriented toward administrative control rather than acting as a facilitator of public interest. Empirical findings indicate a lack of a regular public dialogue mechanism, resulting in the needs of specific groups such as students, industrial workers, and the elderly not being equitably accommodated in route and schedule planning. The public currently perceives low service quality due to limited fleet availability, irregular schedules, and a lack of integration between modes, which has triggered a shift in public preference toward private vehicles and app-based transportation. Furthermore, collaboration between stakeholders remains administrative in nature and has not yet reached a deep level of cooperation, while the complaint accountability system has not been implemented consistently and transparently. To improve these conditions, this study recommends a paradigm shift from a bureaucratic model to a participatory model that positions citizens as active partners. The Sidoarjo Regency Government needs to strengthen public deliberation spaces, build cross-sectoral collaborative governance, increase the capacity of human resources with service ethics, and develop a performance assessment system based on user satisfaction and real experiences. This transformation is crucial for creating a transportation system that is sustainable, inclusive, and responsive to the dynamics of Sidoarjo's community mobility. Keywords: New Public Services, Public Transportation, Sidoarjo Regency, Community Participation, Collaborative Governance.

Abstract

The number of murattal and mujawwad of the Qur’an applications today result in different transmission and transformation before the entry of the digital era. This shows one of the phenomena of the Qur’an that "lives" in society, or is called the Living Qur’an. The study of Ahmad Rafiq’s Living Qur’an provides idea about the transmission-transformation of knowledge and practice. Through Ahmad Rafiq’s Living Qur’an, this article aims to examine the phenomenon of murattal and mujawwad of the Qur’an, and its transmission and transformation since the time of the Prophet Muhammad until the digital era. This article is a study of the Living Qur’an that uses the descriptive-analytical method in its analysis. This article concludes that the position of the Qur’an in the murattal and mujawwad phenomena is not only as an object but also as a subject that actively raises the practice of murattal and mujawwad reading style. This phenomenon describes the form of performative reception of the Muslim community towards the Qur’an. The transmission murattal and mujawwad of the Qur’an that occurs in the digital era are no longer only in the category of teachers and students, but also in the form of a discursive tradition. Meanwhile, the transformation is that murattal and mujawwad al-Qur’an are no longer only heard directly when religious activities are held, but can also be listened anytime and anywhere through digital applications that provide murattal and mujawwad of the Qur'an
