Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of conceptual understanding of the relationship between morality and happiness (sa‘adah) in classical Islamic philosophy, particularly in the thought of Al-Kindi. In the context of modern life marked by moral decline and the search for existential meaning this research is relevant to revisiting profound philosophical values. Employing a qualitative method with a philosophical-analytical approach, the study is based on a literature review of Al-Kindi’s works and related sources. The findings reveal that Al-Kindi perceives true happiness not as worldly pleasure, but as a spiritual achievement attained through intellectual refinement, self-discipline, and ethical conduct. For Al-Kindi, morality is the primary path to achieving sa‘adah, as it enables the purification of the soul and alignment with ultimate truth and divine proximity. This research contributes to enriching Islamic philosophical discourse by highlighting the integration of intellect, ethics, and spirituality as the foundation of true happiness, and by demonstrating the continued relevance of Al-Kindi’s thought in addressing contemporary ethical and existential challenges.

Abstract

Violence against women is a global issue with profound effects on women's physical, psychological, and social well-being. Within the family context, such violence frequently serves as a primary trigger for divorce, further marginalizing women's roles in society. This study aims to analyze hadiths concerning the protection and rights of women to explore how Islamic teachings address issues of violence and divorce. Employing a qualitative approach, this research utilizes content analysis to examine relevant hadiths sourced from major collections, including Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and other supporting texts. The hadiths are analyzed in depth, with consideration of their historical and social contexts as well as classical and contemporary scholarly interpretations, to achieve a holistic understanding. The findings reveal that Islam, through the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, strictly prohibits all forms of violence against women—both within the domestic sphere and in public life. These hadiths emphasize the importance of justice, the preservation of women's dignity, and the fulfillment of their rights, such as protection, maintenance, and kind treatment in marriage. The study concludes that Islamic teachings provide a comprehensive framework for safeguarding women from violence and affirming their rights, while also promoting peaceful conflict resolution within the family to prevent the breakdown of marital relationships.

Abstract

A lifestyle oriented towards excessive consumption and material possession has caused a shift in moral values in society. Values that once upheld simplicity, solidarity, and social responsibility have now been replaced by the urge to satisfy consumer desires and self-image through material possession. This phenomenon marks the occurrence of an ethical crisis that is increasingly rooted in modern culture. This article examines how moral philosophy, especially deontological ethics and utilitarianism, views the impact of a materialistic lifestyle on this moral crisis. Through critical analysis, it is found that excessive materialism tends to ignore moral values such as honesty, empathy, and social responsibility. As a result, society experiences moral degradation characterized by individualism, hedonism, and social indifference. To overcome this crisis, efforts are needed to revitalize moral values through ethical education, philosophical reflection, and social policies that support a balance between material and spiritual needs.

Abstract

In the contemporary era, moral crises often separate the social and spiritual dimensions of human ethics, creating a void in a comprehensive understanding of morality. Therefore, this study critically analyzes and synthesizes the thoughts of two of the most influential Muslim thinkers in the field of ethics (akhlaq), Al-Ghazali and Ibn Miskawaih. This research aims to answer how these two thinkers construct the concept of morality within the context of Islamic ethics. This study employs a qualitative analysis with a comparative approach. Primary texts of Al-Ghazali and Ibn Miskawaih are examined to identify similarities and differences in their views on morality. The theoretical framework utilized includes Islamic ethical theory and moral philosophy, allowing for a deeper understanding of the values espoused by both figures. The findings indicate that while Al-Ghazali emphasizes the spiritual aspect and the relationship between humans and God, Ibn Miskawaih focuses more on character development and social ethics. Nevertheless, both contribute significantly to the understanding of morality in Islam. This synthesis of thought is expected to provide new and relevant insights for contemporary studies of Islamic ethics, bridging the dichotomy between the spiritual and social aspects of morality that frequently occurs today. So This study offers an integrative moral framework that is valuable for advancing contemporary Islamic ethical discourse

Abstract

This study examines the relevance of morality in modern leadership by highlighting how moral principles can shape ethical leadership with integrity and justice. This study aims to analyze the contribution of moral values to the formation of ethical leadership that is oriented towards the common welfare. The method used is a qualitative approach with a literature review of moral philosophy literature, including Aristotle's thoughts on virtue, Immanuel Kant's deontological ethics, and moral principles in the Islamic tradition. The theoretical framework in this study focuses on the relationship between individual morality and its influence on effective leadership. The results of the study indicate that moral-based leadership, which emphasizes honesty, responsibility, justice, and wisdom, plays a role in building legitimacy and public trust in leaders. In addition, this study found that the application of ethical leadership based on morality can be a solution to contemporary leadership problems, such as corruption, degrading power, and moral crises.
