Abstract

This article discusses the typology of the thought of Muhammad Nashiruddin al-Albani, a prominent hadith scholar in the modern era who is widely known among Salafi manhaj. As a scholar who emphasizes the importance of tashfiyah (purification) in hadith, Al-Albani seeks to distinguish authentic hadith from dha'if hadith, which he believes is a fundamental step to eliminate heresy and superstition in Islamic practice. Through a descriptive-analytical approach, this article shows that Al-Albani is not only a hadith scholar, but also a reformist who seeks to bring Muslims back to the pure teachings based on salaf al-shalih. Thus, his thinking has a great influence in shaping modern Islamic discourse, especially in the study of hadith and the implementation  of manhaj salaf. On the other hand, his views also raised polemics among other scholars, especially related to his rejection of the taqlid madhhab. Al-Albani is not only known as a hadith scholar, but also as a reformer who revived the spirit of Islam based on authentic principles. His thinking provides a strong intellectual foundation for those who want to understand and practice Islamic teachings according to the guidance of the salaf generation.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of conceptual understanding of the relationship between morality and happiness (sa‘adah) in classical Islamic philosophy, particularly in the thought of Al-Kindi. In the context of modern life marked by moral decline and the search for existential meaning this research is relevant to revisiting profound philosophical values. Employing a qualitative method with a philosophical-analytical approach, the study is based on a literature review of Al-Kindi’s works and related sources. The findings reveal that Al-Kindi perceives true happiness not as worldly pleasure, but as a spiritual achievement attained through intellectual refinement, self-discipline, and ethical conduct. For Al-Kindi, morality is the primary path to achieving sa‘adah, as it enables the purification of the soul and alignment with ultimate truth and divine proximity. This research contributes to enriching Islamic philosophical discourse by highlighting the integration of intellect, ethics, and spirituality as the foundation of true happiness, and by demonstrating the continued relevance of Al-Kindi’s thought in addressing contemporary ethical and existential challenges.

Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to understand how to achieve a balance between intellectual and spiritual intelligence in modern times based on Ibn Khaldun's views. The main question asked was how Ibn Khaldun viewed the relationship between intellectual and spiritual intelligence in education. The research method involves an analysis of Ibn Khaldun's major works, especially the book "Muqaddimah", as well as a review of related literature that discusses his views on education and intellectual and spiritual development. The theory underlying this research is the holistic education concept of Ibn Khaldun, which unites religious and general knowledge. According to Ibn Khaldun, education not only functions to transfer knowledge, but also to shape the character and morals of students. He emphasized that education must include intellectual and spiritual aspects to create balanced and cultured individuals. In his view, religious science and general science should be taught together, because they are complementary and important for the development of a whole human being. The results of the study show that Ibn Khaldun emphasized the importance of developing students' overall potential by combining science and religion. He believes that holistic education will shape a cultured and moral society. This research has important implications for education in the modern era, especially in understanding the balanced relationship between intellectual and spiritual intelligence.

Abstract

Violence against women is a global issue with profound effects on women's physical, psychological, and social well-being. Within the family context, such violence frequently serves as a primary trigger for divorce, further marginalizing women's roles in society. This study aims to analyze hadiths concerning the protection and rights of women to explore how Islamic teachings address issues of violence and divorce. Employing a qualitative approach, this research utilizes content analysis to examine relevant hadiths sourced from major collections, including Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and other supporting texts. The hadiths are analyzed in depth, with consideration of their historical and social contexts as well as classical and contemporary scholarly interpretations, to achieve a holistic understanding. The findings reveal that Islam, through the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, strictly prohibits all forms of violence against women—both within the domestic sphere and in public life. These hadiths emphasize the importance of justice, the preservation of women's dignity, and the fulfillment of their rights, such as protection, maintenance, and kind treatment in marriage. The study concludes that Islamic teachings provide a comprehensive framework for safeguarding women from violence and affirming their rights, while also promoting peaceful conflict resolution within the family to prevent the breakdown of marital relationships.

Abstract

A lifestyle oriented towards excessive consumption and material possession has caused a shift in moral values in society. Values that once upheld simplicity, solidarity, and social responsibility have now been replaced by the urge to satisfy consumer desires and self-image through material possession. This phenomenon marks the occurrence of an ethical crisis that is increasingly rooted in modern culture. This article examines how moral philosophy, especially deontological ethics and utilitarianism, views the impact of a materialistic lifestyle on this moral crisis. Through critical analysis, it is found that excessive materialism tends to ignore moral values such as honesty, empathy, and social responsibility. As a result, society experiences moral degradation characterized by individualism, hedonism, and social indifference. To overcome this crisis, efforts are needed to revitalize moral values through ethical education, philosophical reflection, and social policies that support a balance between material and spiritual needs.

Abstract

This study examines the Methodology of Contemporary Interpretation by comparing the thoughts of Fazlur Rahman and Sahiron Syamsuddin. The background of this study is related to the phenomenon of contemporary interpretation that is developing in today's society. The goal is to explain the differences and similarities between the two figures. The research uses the library research method, by analyzing data from various literature sources. The discussion is carried out in a descriptive manner, namely by describing the findings from relevant literature sources before further analysis. The sources used are mostly secondary literature supplemented with additional references. The results of the study show that Fazlur Rahman, through  the Double Movement methodology, offers a progressive approach to understanding the Qur'an with two stages: first, exploring the historical context when revelation was revealed; second, adapting these values into contemporary reality. On the other hand, Sahiron Syamsuddin developed  the Ma'na cum Maghza method  which emphasizes the exploration of the literal meaning (ma'na) and the main message (maghza) of the text, as well as its application in the contemporary context. These two methods have similarities in the use of hermeneutics to interpret the Qur'an in a relevant way to modern social conditions, but differ in their scope and emphasis. Rahman's Double Movement is more focused on legal verses, while Ma'na cum Maghza Sahiron can be applied to all types of verses except al-huruf al-muqatta'a. Another difference lies in Sahiron's attention to the importance of literal and historical meaning, which Rahman considered less emphasized.
