Abstract

According to the latest data, the financial literacy index in Indonesia stood at 38%. This figure was definitely an improvement compared to previous years, but was still considerably behind compared to the global standard. Taking into account gender disparity in Indonesia, this figure becomes even more abysmal as the financial literacy index for women is substantially lower than men. To solve this problem, a social media knowledge management framework is proposed to structure and disseminate financial knowledge with the purpose of improving the financial literacy index, especially for women, in Indonesia. This knowledge management platform is supported by a financial education program that has been developed based on the characteristics and needs of typical women in Indonesia. To further substantiate the findings of this study, a series of in-depth interviews were conducted with the aim to acquire a better understanding of various aspects of financial literacy from the perspective of women. In total, 13 women who lived in Bandung were chosen as the main subject of this study based on a judgment sampling technique. Encouragingly, more than three-quarter of the respondents were considered to be well-literate. Digging deeper into the data, however, presents a much more nuanced and complicated insight regarding the behavior of the respondents as most of the respondents simultaneously exhibit a very wide range behavior ranging from discipline to carelessness when managing their money.

Abstract

The development and use of digital technologies are fundamentally altering how people live, work, travel, and conduct business, and they are also reshaping and revolutionizing the tourism industry. This study aimed to assess the digitalized footprint practices of selected hotels in the Philippines towards the implementation of a safe travel experience among prospective and regular tourists in the city and country. Moreover, it sought to determine whether there is a significant relationship between the perceived digitalized tourism experience and the commonness of availing services in the selected establishment in implementing a safe travel experience. The researchers used the Quantitative method to quantify data and generalize results from a sample of a target population. It involved one hundred (100) respondents consisting of customers and employees of the selected hotels in Taguig City. Convenience Sampling was used on this research; therefore, participants were chosen based on their availability and willingness to participate. The statistical test that was used in this research is Pearson Correlation Coefficient. This test was designed to determine the relationship or association between an independent variable (categorical data – Frequency of availing services in the establishment) and dependent variable/s (3 digitalized tourism experiences). Based on the result, it is concluded that there is a significant relationship between the respondents’ perceived digitalized tourism experience and the commonness of availing services in the selected establishment in implementing safe travel experience.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of capital expenditure in mediating the relationship between regional financial performance and economic growth in Aceh Province. The data source for this research uses secondary data sources from the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bureau of Statistics. Respondents in this study were local governments in Aceh with a total of 24 provincial, district, and city governments for 12 years from 2011-2022 period. The results of the analysis show that regional financial performance, as represented by the independence ratio, effectiveness ratio, efficiency ratio, harmony ratio, and personnel expenditure ratio, simultaneously has a positive and significant effect on capital expenditure. Meanwhile, the direct effect of capital expenditure allocation and regional financial performance is represented by the independence ratio, effectiveness ratio, efficiency ratio, harmony ratio, and personnel expenditure ratio, which simultaneously have a positive and significant effect on economic growth. This study found that the mediation of capital expenditure allocation on regional financial performance in Aceh province does not affect economic growth. Capital expenditure which is expected to be able to bridge regional financial performance indicators on economic growth, has not yet affected Aceh province.

Abstract

Employee engagement emerged as one of the most important topics for HR managers and practitioners in the industry. This study aims to analyze and assess how various organizations engaged their workers throughout the coronavirus epidemic. The Philippine Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) companies have shifted remote work set-up to ensure productivity. The researchers focused on 100 purposively selected managers and team leaders of BPO companies in a particular freeport zone in the Philippines. The proponents utilized a descriptive-correlation research design with the help of a modified survey instrument. Statistical analyses used were mean and Pearson-r moment of correlation with the help of SPSS 20. Results show that the respondents gave the study a remark of "sometimes" on their employee engagement. As for the perceived factors affecting employee engagement, career development, leadership, and work-life balance generated a response of "strongly agree" among the respondents, and only rewards and recognition got an "agree" response. Furthermore, the study also found a low to moderate positive association between employee engagement and the perceived factors affecting employee engagement. As concluded, a relationship exists between employee engagement, career development, leadership, work-life balance, and rewards and recognition within the organization. The importance of sustaining employee engagement amid the Covid-19 Pandemic is vital to attain productivity, and outcomes such as increased profit, lower absenteeism, and good health of employees are essential to achieve a win-win situation between the company and its stakeholders.

Abstract

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are vital to the Philippine economy, as the COVID-19 pandemic became more widespread, business activity was negatively impacted, strict quarantine measures were implemented, business operating hours were shortened, and the demand for labor from rural and remote areas decreased. With these new solutions, new measures and protocols are adopted and enforced to protect the safety of employees and consumers. The objective of this study is to determine how the COVID-19 pandemic affected the business sustainability of SMEs. The variables used to assess the impact on businesses are supply chain, business relations, resurging, cash flow, and work remotely. This study focuses solely on registered SMEs that existed before the pandemic and were still operational when the study was conducted. Survey questionnaires were used to gather data from business owners. Responses from the participants were presented in tabular form, along with brief explanations of the results. Statistical evaluation of the hypothesis was conducted using a one-way ANOVA and a two-sample T-test. The results showed the assessment of SME owners regarding the impact of the five variables on the sustainability of their businesses. Importantly, the study highlighted additional measures that can be used to better analyze and evaluate which areas of businesses are impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and how to keep those businesses afloat.
