Abstract

Background. Financial crises and rollover risk are closely associated with short-term debt, which impacts a company’s ability to undertake long-term investments and affects the state of the economy. Short-term debt reduces asset volatility and increases the distance to default compared to long-term debt. A significant factor influencing decisions on debt maturity is borrowers’ awareness of their default risk. Purpose. The study aims to identify the variables that influence and are influenced by debt maturity. It focuses on understanding the relationship between debt maturity, disproportional control rights, capital age, and asset life.   Method. This research employs a theoretical literature review to analyze the relationships between the identified variables. By synthesizing existing theories, the study develops a conceptual framework to explore the impact of disproportional control rights on debt maturity and its downstream effects on financial management. Results. The findings reveal that disproportional control rights significantly influence debt maturity. Companies with longer-term debt structures are better positioned to manage capital age and asset life effectively. Conversely, short-term debt structures tend to align with younger capital and shorter asset lifespans, often limiting long-term operational sustainability. Conclusion. The study concludes that companies must carefully consider debt maturity in their financial strategies to ensure stability and sustainable growth. Disproportional control rights, capital age, and asset life are crucial factors to manage. Further empirical research is recommended to validate and expand the findings, providing practical insights into optimizing debt maturity in diverse organizational contexts.

Abstract

Background. Spirituality in Indonesia has deep roots in mystical traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation. Previously, spirituality was only practiced by certain groups who had certain spiritual understandings and experiences. However, in recent decades, spirituality in Indonesia has undergone a significant transformation. This change involves not only how spirituality is practiced, but also how spirituality is accepted and adapted by the wider community, including the younger generation. This research aims to understand the process of spiritual evolution, from practices limited to exclusive groups to more inclusive and relevant to modern life that is increasingly open to technology and globalization. Purpose. This research aims to explore how spirituality in Indonesia adapts to social and technological developments, as well as how the younger generation integrates spirituality into their lives. Method. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design, which involves in-depth interviews and observations of the spiritual community in Java. Data was collected from a variety of respondents with different educational backgrounds and ages. Results. The results of the study show that spirituality has transformed to be more inclusive, with the influence of technology and social media that allows the spread of its teachings to a wider audience, including the younger generation. In addition, spirituality also underwent changes in the form of currents, such as the adoption of Contemporary Sufi teachings. Conclusion. Spirituality in Indonesia has adapted to the changing times, maintained its traditional values, and integrated technology in its practice. This research shows that spirituality has the potential to continue to develop in the midst of modernity and globalization.

Abstract

Background. The digital era has changed the way people consume news, with digital journalism increasingly dominating compared to traditional media. Purpose. This study aims to understand the differences in consumption patterns and public trust in the two forms of media, as well as their implications for the quality of the information presented.   Method. The research methods used are a quantitative approach through a survey and a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews with journalists from both types of media. Results. The results of the study show that younger generations are more likely to use digital journalism because of accessibility and speed, while older generations still trust traditional media because of their credibility and validity. Although digital media is used more frequently, the level of trust in the information presented is relatively lower compared to traditional media. This shows that although digital journalism offers quick access, the credibility aspect is still an issue that needs to be improved. Conclusion. The conclusion of the study is that although digital journalism has changed the face of information consumption, the challenges related to the credibility and validity of information remain significant. This research provides important insights into how speed and credibility can be integrated for a more reliable future of journalism.

Abstract

Background. Indonesian webtoons have become a dynamic cultural medium, blending visual artistry with episodic storytelling to address pressing social issues. The growing popularity of these digital comics among young audiences creates opportunities for fostering critical literacy, yet systematic analyses of their semiotic strategies remain scarce. This study examines how social critiques are embedded in Indonesian webtoons and how these narratives encourage audiences to engage critically with socio-political realities. Purpose. The research aimed to identify thematic patterns, semiotic modes, and multimodal strategies that contribute to constructing social critique within webtoon narratives. Method. A qualitative design was employed using multimodal semiotic analysis, integrating Kress and van Leeuwen’s framework with Luke and Freebody’s Four Resources Model. Ten Indonesian webtoons were purposively selected based on thematic relevance and popularity, resulting in the analysis of 450 episodes and 3,125 coded instances of semiotic elements. Results. Findings revealed that visual strategies accounted for 58.7% of semiotic instances, with class disparity, gender inequality, and political corruption as dominant themes. Symbolic imagery, color contrasts, and visual metaphors were central to delivering critique, often complemented by textual elements for nuance. Multimodal strategies proved particularly effective in addressing gender issues. Case study evidence from Urban Fractures illustrated how narrative pacing and recurring symbols fostered both individual reflection and participatory audience dialogue. Conclusion. The study concludes that Indonesian webtoons strategically employ visual semiotics to navigate socio-political constraints while promoting critical engagement. The novelty lies in combining multimodal semiotic analysis with critical literacy theory to explore popular digital media as a vehicle for socio-political discourse.

Abstract

Background. Global environmental destruction is driving the search for alternative environmental ethics that is not only universal but also rooted in local wisdom. Ancient Javanese philosophy holds the concept of Rahayu which represents the harmony of the cosmos and the principle of sustainability. Purpose. This research aims to reconstruct the concept of Rahayu as a relevant framework for local ecosophy to answer contemporary ecological challenges. Method. The hermeneutical approach is used to analyze ancient manuscripts, oral traditions, and cultural practices related to Rahayu. Interviews with cultural sources and literature studies support philosophical and ecological interpretations. Results. Research has found that Rahayu contains the principles of cosmological balance, respect for nature, and resource sustainability. This value is in line with modern environmental ethics but is firmly rooted in Javanese agrarian cosmology. Conclusion. Rahayu's reconstruction produces a framework for local ecosophy that has the potential to be applied in education, policy, and environmental social movements. This concept can bridge traditional knowledge and global environmental ethical theory. This research offers a unique integration between modern environmental philosophy and Javanese local wisdom through the Rahayu concept, while presenting an analytical method that combines philosophical, anthropological, and cultural ecological approaches.
