Focus The Journal of Community Research and Engagement focuses on how communities work together on important health, socio-economic, and education issues. We aim to share research that helps communities improve their lives and encourages active participation in decision-making. Abstract

Background: Cosmetics are one of the products with a large market share. The high demand for cosmetic products encourages some manufacturers to deliberately add harmful ingredients to their products to gain significant profits. Objectives: This community service aims to socialize how to choose the right cosmetics needs to be conducted as a provision for the community to avoid harmful cosmetic products, especially among teenagers who are easily deceived by advertisements on social media. Therefore, the community service team from the Bachelor of Pharmacy Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Lamongan  conducted socialization on how to choose the right cosmetics for teenagers. Method: This activity was carried out at SMA Negeri 3 Lamongan (Class XII – 2) using counseling methods with PowerPoint media and banners. The success of this activity was analyzed through pre-test and post-test results. Results: The results showed that the average post-test score was higher than the pre-test score, indicating an increase in participants’ knowledge after the socialization activity. This activity is expected to have a positive impact on the community, especially the students of Class XII – 2 at SMA Negeri 3 Lamongan. Conclusion: This program has successfully increased in post-test scores compared to pre-test scores, meaning that the participants’ knowledge imporved after the socialization.

Abstract

Background: Java Island is a highly disaster-prone area in Indonesia due to its location in the convergence zone, where two tectonic plates meet. Mangrove planting and earthquake education are two natural disaster mitigation efforts that complement each other in reducing the risk and impact of disasters, especially in coastal areas that are vulnerable to earthquakes and tsunamis. Objectives: The purpose of this activity is to increase community knowledge by educating about natural disaster mitigation and earthquakes, as well as preventing sea abrasion disasters through mangrove planting. Method: The method of implementing community service activities includes education with lecture methods and mangrove planting. The activity was attended by approximately 28 people in Klayar Hamlet, Sidokelar Village, Paciran Subdistrict, Lamongan, East Java. Results: The post-test results showed an increase in knowledge about earthquake disaster mitigation. Mangrove planting activities totaling 110 trees ran smoothly. Evaluation and follow-up are carried out with a questionnaire while tree planting is evaluated once a year to see the results. Abstract

The Indonesian Tera Klampok gymnastics group has a high prevalence of hypertension. This is evidenced by the results of interviews and preliminary studies as many as 80% of members who suffer from hypertension. This community service aims to increase the knowledge and ability of hypertension patients to apply acupressure independently to control blood pressure to prevent all risks of complications and partners can be independent in checking blood pressure regularly. The implementation of activities includes education, training and assistance for partners in applying acupressure therapy as complementary therapy, the media used are leaflets and power point broadcasts related to acupressure therapy. The participants who attended the activity were 36 people. In the post-test after providing education, training and assistance to partners in applying acupressure therapy as complementary therapy, it showed significant differences in the reduction of systolic and diastolic blood pressure in participants before and after acupressure therapy and there was an increase in knowledge and skills related to hypertension and the benefits of the application of independent acupressure complementary therapy as one of the management of non-pharmacological therapies that can lower blood pressure and partners are able to take part in demonstrations of acupressure techniques and points for hypertension and the community is able to apply acupressure therapy related to hypertension management. Abstract

Background: Physiotherapy plays a crucial role in improving public health, focusing on maintaining and enhancing movement and body function, targeting healthy individuals to prevent disease. Physiotherapy services encompass not only curative and rehabilitative services but also preventive and promotive services within the community. Objectives: This community service aimed to educate public about physiotherapy and targeted individuals with movement and functional impairments in their daily activities. Method: This community service activity method was used to solve problems through a socialisation and education approach. Direct outreach and education were provided to the community through face-to-face consultations and discussions. Results: Based on the findings, it was found that many people are still unaware of the disorders they experience and the initial treatment to overcome them, as well as the role of physiotherapy in addressing these problems. The implementation of this activity is very important and necessary in achieving a high level of public health, starting with addressing problems of movement and functional disorders. Conclusion: This community is provided with knowledge through socialisation and provided with physiotherapy services for problems that result in movement and function disorders faced in daily activities.
