SAWERIGADING is a journal aiming to publish literary studies researches, either Indonesian, local, or foreign literatures. All articles in SAWERIGADING have passed reviewing process by peer reviewers and edited by editors. SAWERIGADING is published by Balai Bahasa Sulawesi Selatan twice times a year, in June and December. SAWERIGADING focuses on publishing research articles and current issues related to language, literature, and the instructor. The main objective of SAWERIGADING is to provide a platform for scholars, academics, lecturers, and researchers to share contemporary thoughts in their fields. The editor has reviewed all published articles. SAWERIGADING accepts submissions of original articles that have not been published elsewhere nor being considered or processed for publication anywhere, and demonstrate no plagiarism whatsoever. The prerequisites, standards, and format of the manuscript are listed in the author guidelines and templates. Any accepted manuscript will be reviewed by at least two referees. Authors are free of charge throughout the whole process, including article submission, review and editing process, and publication.

Abstract

This article is a kind of language analysis on literary works. Discourse of “Pamela” Novel is analyzed by usingCritical Discourse Analysis referring to Sara Mills and Norman Fairclough models. The result of the researchshows that subject of storytelling is Pamela as representation of proletariat class by placing the figure of Mr.B as a subordinate of Pamela while eliminating the authority of the bourgeois class. Description of languageis viewed in terms of type of word, antonym, and sentence form used. Interpretation of ideology of capitalismin this novel is viewed from reader’s community,and author background, and his social life. Explanation ofworkers exploitation by the bourgeoisand the proletariat classes struggle in terms of the values of honesty andkindness, increasing trust in God, as well as strengthening the family institution.

Abstract

AbstractThe research intends to describe euphemism in Makassarese society. It applies descriptive method withinterviewing and listening-speaking involving technique. Furthermore, data is analyzed qualitatively usingsemantic approach. Result of research shows that euphemism forms of taboo in Makassarese society foundare (a) euphemism in farmer’s community, (b) euphemism in fishermen’s community, (c) euphemism in seller’scommunity, and (d) euphemism in circumstance’s community. Besides proposing euphemism form, the researchalso finds out euphemism classification implying taboo values like (a) taboo of being afraid, (b) taboo of beingconsidered rough, and (c) taboo of being considered impolite.

Abstract

The writing proposes language usage of Indonesian-Buginese language code switching and vice versa ofIslamic preaching in Masjid Nurul Iman, Sinjai Borong District of Sinjai Regency. Method used is descriptive.The data obtained is sentence characterized with code switching of Islamic preaching conveyed in MasjidNurul Iman, Sinjai Borong District of Sinjai Regency. Result of research shows that the preacher and theaudience are mutual intelligible in using Buginese language. In addition, the preachers also sometimes speakin Indonesian language as welcoming preaching or prolog of formality form. The use of Indonesian-Buginesecode switching and vice versa is a way to estalish good relations between Buginese speakers. Code switchingis one aspect of interdependency language in multilingual society. In the code switching case of either twolanguages or more, it is marked by (1) each language still support its own function based on the context, (2)the function of each language is in accordance with the relevant situation of contextual change. They becomethe reason of language switching in preaching found in Masjid Nurul Iman. The switching of code is done bythe preachers since they are difficult to find relevant and right words which are easier to understand by theaudience.

Abstract

Pappasengna To Maccae ri Luwu sibawa Kajao Laliqdong Bone is one of the classic oral literary of Buginese society conveyed by symbols. Will/advices implied still could be applied and preserved in Buginese society.It uses library research or literary study and dialectics discussions, as well as pragmatic and sociology ofliterary approachs. The data is collected and then analyzed. Data collection is done by library and fieldresearch. Will/advices are useful as a mean of education that could guide and find out the essence of humanexistence. The results of this study indicate that each person should be honest, good, and it is important thateach individual should always tell the truth, behave well, and keep promises, respect other’s rights, admitmistakes, avoid dissapointing others. Besides that, it also implies that each person must keep tongue, heart,and behavior of bad deeds.

Abstract

The research aims at describing imperative sentence in Massenrempulu language. Method used isdescriptive with noting and recording technique. In addition, documentation analysis of previous study aboutMassenrempulu language and literature is also done. Data analysis applies structural linguistic theory. Result of research shows that imperative sentence of Massenrempulu language has falling intonation at the end of sentence, its pattern is [2]3 2 //[2]1#. Based on its type, imperative sentence of Massenrempulu language isdivided into seven groups, they are intransitive imperative sentence, transitive imperative sentence, requestingimperative sentence, prohibitive imperative sentence, permission imperative sentence, indirect imperativesentence, and offering imperative sentence.

Abstract

This article is a description about Sufism in Dodolitdodolitdodolibret, a short story by Seno Gumira Ajidarma.Basically, Sufism is a thought that drives human to get closed with spiritual attitude, to advise other people,hold promise to Allah swt, and to follow Prophet Muhammad in syari’ah. The article analyzes Sufism existing in the short story. Sufism is described by using descriptive qualitative method. After analyzing it, it could be concluded that sufism is shown by four activities. These activities are 1) the effort of keeping onleavingdesirewhich could be seen by the wish of characters to leave worldly pleasure, 2) searching of spiritual behaviorreflected by the characters’ effort to get closed with their God through praying, 3)giving advice for otherhuman which is shown by the main activity of Guru Kiplik, known as firm character to share his knowledgeof praying well, 4) the application of Rasulullah sunnah in life like praying as one of Rasulullah’s ways whenfacing challenge and suffering.

Abstract

The research described numerals phrase of Javanese language including number of elements, sequence pattern,and closeness hierarchy of interelements relationship. Method employed in the research was descriptiveentailing data collection, classification of data, and analysis of data. Technique of data collection was doneby writing down the sentences implying phrase in data card. In analyzing data, it was done by substitution,expansion, interruption, permutation, and paraphrase technique. Having been analyzed, it is then found thatmostly the head of numerals phrase placed in the left side and its interelement relationship was closed andcould not be permutated, whilst, the head placing the right side was in the contrary. Relating to the closedrelationship of interelements in numeral phrase, the closest modificator of the head was unit of number (forright side expansion) and aspect for the left.

Abstract

The survival of a local language isthe symbol of the viability concept of traditional culture values. The lossor extinction of the local language including Buginese language, means the loss and the extinction of theconcept of traditional culture values because the traditional culture only could be understood better throughthe local language expressed by the society. In the other words, if the local language is extinct, the imageand the identity of the society become unclear. By discussing the case of Buginese language preservation inCentral Sulawesi land, it aims at (1) describing the ways of Buginese language preservation of family domainin Central Sulawesi and (2) analyzing the factors supporting the Buginese language preservation in CentralSulawesi. The method used in this research is sociolinguistic approach by using interview, observation, andrecording techniques. Then, the data will be analyzed based on percentage of the usage patterns of Bugineselanguage in the family domain. The result of the analysis shows that Buginese people in Central Sulawesi landstill maintain their language in the family domain whether it is viewed from the categories of age, gender,education, and occupation. Factors that support the Buginese language preservation in Central Sulawesi areloyality, the awareness of language norms, the language pride, age, and occupation.

Abstract

Sekotak Kertas novel by Narnie January narrated a girl undergoing personality disorder. As for the aimof the writing, it is to find out the description of main character, psychological disorder undergone by thecharacter, and how it is solved, it is analyzed using descriptive qualitative method. Result shows that analysisusing psychology personality approach shows that Nikha character undergoes psychological disorder calledobsessive compulsive disorder. The symptoms appearing are always counting mathematical scribbling paperof her friends, walking on cracking road, examining the door lock back and forth. It is caused by her childexperience, Nikha was only raised by her mother since her parents divorced. However, Nikha is succeed tobe aside from obsessive compulsive disorder as a result of good working between Nikha, her parents, andtherapist naming Mr. Bima and Mrs. Lolita. Nikha is impossible to be relieved of the disorder if there is noteffort inside herself.

Abstract

This study discussed about the reflexes of Proto Malayo-Polynesian (PMP) phonemes in Rejang language.The reflexes of Proto Malayo-Polynesian phonemes (PMP) in Rejang language covered consonants, vowels, semivowels, and diphthongs. Description of the phonemes reflexes employed a top-down reconstruction method. Based on the data analysis, it proved that reflexes of Proto Malayo-Polynesian (PMP) phonemesin Rejang language covered:(1) vowel reflexes e.g. /*e//e/, /ê/, /o/, /êa/, /oa/, /ø/; /*i//i/, /e/, /ê/, /ea/, /êy/;/*u/ /u/, /ê/, /o/, /oa/, /êw/; (2) consonant reflexes e.g. /*b//b/, /o/; /*d//t/; /*D//d/, /ø/; /*g//g/; /h//ø/;/*j//g/, /k/, /t/; /*k//k/, /?/; /*l//l/, /ø/; /*m//m/, /ø/; /*n//n/, /ñ/; /*ñ//ñ/, /n/; /*ŋ//ŋ/, /ø/; /*p//p/;/*q//?/, /ø/; /*r//r/, /ø/; /*R//l/, /?/, /ø/; /*s//s/; /*S//ø/; /*t//t/, /ø/; /*T//t/; /*z//j/, /y/; /*Z//d/, /j/;(3) semivowel reflexes e.g. /*w//b/, /w/, /a/, /ø/; /*y//y/, /e/; (4) diphthong reflexes e.g /*aw//oa/ in Rejanglanguage.
