Abstract

This study explores how the "Sandwich Generation" interprets Qur’anic verse Al-Baqarah 215 through the lens of Ar-Razi’s classical tafsir. The Sandwich Generation refers to individuals who bear simultaneous financial and emotional responsibilities for both their aging parents and their children. Employing a qualitative approach based on literature review, the research applies Gary Becker's theory of family economics and social welfare to analyze how these individuals prioritize their obligations. The findings suggest that the interpretation of Al-Baqarah 215 provides religious justification and ethical guidance for managing multigenerational responsibilities. This analysis contributes to understanding how Islamic teachings are utilized by modern Muslim families to navigate complex familial roles.

Abstract

This article examines Toshihiko Izutsu’s semantic approach to Qur’anic studies through his works, particularly God and Man in the Qur’an: Semantics of the Qur’anic Weltanschauung, and its relevance to contemporary Qur’anic exegesis. This approach is grounded in the analysis of conceptual meanings in the Qur’an using synchronic and diachronic methods to uncover the semantic world that shapes the structure of Islamic religious thought. Employing a qualitative methodology based on library research and content analysis, this study traces how Izutsu systematically and contextually maps key Qur’anic concepts. The findings reveal that the semantic approach not only opens new avenues for understanding the Qur’anic text but also reconstructs the relationship between revelation and language as a dynamic system of meaning. Through his contributions, Izutsu offers an integrative interpretive paradigm that remains highly relevant to the development of contemporary Qur’anic studies.

Abstract

The teaching of the Qur’an plays a crucial role in shaping the Islamic character of individuals and communities. However, challenges such as insufficient teacher training, limited facilities, and students’ lack of motivation often hinder its effectiveness. This study aims to analyze the principles of patience, compassion, and wisdom in Qur’anic teaching based on Surah Al-Baqarah (2:45), Surah Ali Imran (3:159), and Surah An-Nahl (16:125). Using a library research approach and descriptive analysis, the study highlights the importance of adopting gentle, empathetic, and wise approaches in education. The principle of patience helps address learning challenges, compassion strengthens teacher-student relationships, and wisdom supports the effective delivery of teachings. The findings demonstrate that these principles are effective in creating a conducive learning environment, fostering character development, and enhancing the reception of Qur’anic teachings. This study offers valuable insights for developing teaching methods that meet the needs of modern education.

Abstract

The concept of fas?d f? al-ar? constitutes a fundamental principle in the Qur’an that explicitly prohibits all forms of destruction on earth resulting from human actions. In the contemporary context, this concept is highly relevant for interpreting the global environmental crisis, particularly the massive deforestation occurring in tropical forest regions. This article aims to analyze the meaning of fas?d f? al-ar? in classical and contemporary Qur’anic exegesis and to contextualize it within the reality of deforestation in Indonesia and Brazil. Employing a qualitative method based on library research, this study adopts a thematic exegesis (tafs?r maw??‘?) approach and a comparative-contextual analysis. The findings indicate that modern deforestation represents a form of structural fas?d that contradicts Qur’anic principles of balance (m?z?n), the human trust (am?nah) as khal?fah, and the overarching objective of public welfare (ma?la?ah). This article affirms that Qur’anic exegesis possesses both normative relevance and critical capacity in addressing contemporary global environmental issues

Abstract

The Qur’an, as the primary source of Islamic teachings, does not only regulate theological and ritual aspects but also provides comprehensive guidance on social ethics aimed at establishing a civilized and dignified social order. One such ethical regulation is the teaching of seeking permission before entering another person’s house, as explicitly stated in Q. an-N?r (24): 27–29. This article aims to analyze the concept of seeking permission (adab al-isti’dh?n) from the Qur’anic perspective, classical and contemporary exegetical interpretations, and its relevance to the development of Islamic social ethics. This study employs a library research method with a descriptive-analytical approach and the tahl?l? method of Qur’anic exegesis. Primary data sources include the Qur’an and classical as well as contemporary tafs?r works, while secondary sources consist of scholarly books and relevant academic journal articles. The findings indicate that seeking permission constitutes a preventive ethical system in Islam that functions to protect human dignity, privacy, and social order. This ethical injunction not only regulates interpersonal relations but also reflects the integration of moral, spiritual, and social values within Islamic teachings. Therefore, the ethics of seeking permission retains strong normative and contextual relevance in modern society as an instrument for shaping social morality grounded in Qur’anic values.
