Abstract

The present farmer organizations merely serve as instruments through which select communities or specific groups may procure assistance from the government. Consequently, the establishment of farmer groups has deviated from its initial objective, which was to enhance the well-being of the farming community through agricultural development. The objective of this study is to ascertain the impact of group communication on the dynamics of paddy rice farmer groups in Labulu-bulu Village, Parigi District, Muna Regency. The study population comprised 324 wet-rice farmers. The sample size was determined using the Slovin formula with a margin of error of 15%, resulting in a sample of 39 respondents for this study. The sampling method employed was the Proportional Stratified Random Sampling technique. The data were collected using survey and interview methods guided by questionnaires. The independent variables of this study include group communication (X) and farmer group dynamics (Y). The collected data is then subjected to a descriptive and quantitative analysis. A descriptive analysis was conducted using the interval formula, and a linear regression analysis was performed with the assistance of SPSS software version 16. The findings indicated that the communication patterns exhibited by paddy rice farmer groups in Labulu-Bulu Village were classified as high-intensity, characterized by a strong sense of solidarity, frequent interactions, and a high level of motivation. The dynamics of paddy rice farmer groups are in the high or dynamic category based on group objectives, group structure, task function, and group effectiveness. The findings of this study demonstrate that group communication exerts a substantial influence (p < 0.05) on the dynamics of rice paddy farmer groups. Accordingly, it can be concluded that group communication on indicators of solidarity, communication intensity, communicative action, and communication motivation will affect group dynamics. The aforementioned group dynamics include indicators of group objectives, group structure, task function, and group effectiveness.

Abstract

Along with population growth, the need for food such as rice will continue to increase, which has an impact on the amount of per capita consumption. Therefore, every component that affects the level of production is very important to consider carefully. In 2016, the Ministry of Agriculture provided assistance to rice plant transplanter machines. Talkandang is one of the villages that received the machine. However, the use of the planting machine is still low or less than optimal in practice. This is due to the fact that farmers lack knowledge about the right way to sow the dapog system to prepare rice seeds to be planted using the planting machine. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of extension on increasing farmer knowledge, attitudes, and skills. The method used in the study was a quantitative method and was analyzed descriptively using SPSS. The results showed that a) increased knowledge occurred before and after extension; Then in the skill aspect, it was found that 89% of the test results from the extension targets were in the skilled category. Furthermore, in the attitude aspect, 63% of the extension targets gave a positive response to the material provided.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to assess the extent to which the role of agricultural extension workers contributes to increasing rice production in Keramasan and Karya Jaya villages, Palembang City. The primary focus of this study is on the significance of the presence of extension workers as a liaison between government policies and farming actors, particularly in enhancing the productivity of strategic food commodities such as rice. The adopted methodology is descriptive quantitative, employing a questionnaire administered to 30 farmers as a data collection instrument. These farmers were selected through a purposive sampling method. The effectiveness of the role of extension workers was measured through five main indicators, namely communicators, educators, motivators, facilitators, and dynamists, with the help of a Likert scale. The results obtained from this study indicate that extension workers have a very significant influence on increasing productivity, especially through their facilitator and educator functions. This finding underscores the pivotal role of optimized extension functions in fostering sustainable agricultural development in urban contexts.

Abstract

Agricultural production facilities play a pivotal role in the field of farming, as they have the capacity to enhance productivity, quality, and efficiency of agricultural land. However, farmers often encounter challenges in acquiring the necessary means of production, including fertilizers, seeds, and pesticides, during the agricultural cycle. This study aims to examine the function of farmer groups in the provision of production facilities in paddy rice farming in Wungkolo Village, South Wawonii District, South Konawe Regency. The selection of informants was conducted using a purposive sampling method. The study's informant pool comprised 10 individuals. Data were collected through in-depth interviews guided by a list of questions related to the subject under study. To bolster the findings, observational and documental methods were employed. The analysis of the collected data was conducted through a descriptive and qualitative approach, encompassing data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicated that farmer groups' provision of production facilities has been ineffective. Evidence of this shortcoming is apparent in the inadequate provision of fertilizers and pesticides, both in terms of type and amount, which fall short of meeting farmers' needs. Conversely, farmer groups have demonstrated efficacy in the provision of seeds, as evidenced by the provision of the appropriate type of seeds, sufficient quantities, and the facilitation of this process by the Agriculture Office and Field Agricultural Extension Officers.

Abstract

The cultivation of seaweed in Langgere Village exhibits considerable promise; however, its potential has not been fully realized. This is primarily due to the limited capacity of farmers, the minimal role of fisheries extension workers, and the absence of sustainable facilities, infrastructure, and institutional support. The objective of this study is to ascertain the role of extension workers and the capacity of farmers in cultivating seaweed in Langgere Village, Bonegunu Sub-district, North Buton Regency. The population of this study was 206 seaweed farmers residing in Langgere Village. The sample size was determined using the Slovin formula with an error rate of 15%, resulting in a research sample of 36 seaweed farmer. The data were collected using a variety of research methods, including survey techniques, interviews, and documentation guided by a questionnaire. The research variables were divided into two categories: the role of extension workers and the capacity of seaweed farmers. The collected data is then subjected to descriptive analysis. The results indicated that the role of extension workers in Langgere Village is of significant importance in the development of seaweed cultivation. The role of educators and extension workers is to enhance farmers' technical knowledge. In their capacity as facilitators, extension workers play a pivotal role in assisting farmers in navigating the legal intricacies and acquiring the necessary capital for their business endeavors. In their capacity as organizers, extension workers play a pivotal role in facilitating the establishment of farmer groups and the subsequent management of production. As communicators, extension workers are responsible for data collection and routine monitoring of cultivation. Seaweed farmers have demonstrated effective managerial capacity by integrating their families into the business management process. From a technical standpoint, farmers implement suitable and efficient cultivation practices. Farmers demonstrate notable social capacity through their adherence to a culture of gotong royong, or mutual assistance, yet the formal cooperation with extension officers remains a developing area.
