Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the implementation of an extension program in pepper cultivation in Bou Village, Lambandia Subdistrict, East Kolaka Regency. The population in this study consists of all pepper farmers actively involved in the agricultural extension program in Bou Village, totaling 20 individuals. Due to the relatively small population size, the entire population was used as the sample using a saturated sampling technique (census). The analysis method employed was descriptive analysis, assisted by an effectiveness formula. The results of the study indicate that the effectiveness of the implementation of the extension program in pepper cultivation in Bou Village falls into the category of moderately effective, as assessed from three main aspects: inputs, processes, and outputs.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the sustainable food garden program (P2L) in supporting food security in Mekarjaya Village, Baito District, South Konawe Regency. The population in this study consists of all farmers participating in the P2L program, totaling 30 farmers. The sample was determined using the census method, i.e., all farmers. The study location was selected using the purposive method, i.e., deliberate selection. The study was conducted in Mekarjaya Village because this village has an optimally implemented Sustainable Food Garden Program (P2L). The analysis method used was quantitative descriptive analysis with the assistance of an effectiveness formula. The results of the study indicate that the P2L program is quite effective, particularly in terms of program understanding and tangible changes, but there are still challenges in terms of target accuracy and the sustainability of impacts.

Abstract

Fish-based sambal products are considered ready-to-eat foods that are highly susceptible to microbial spoilage during storage, thereby requiring safe and natural preservation strategies. One promising solution is the use of manuru banana leaf extract (MBLE), which contains active antimicrobial and antioxidant compounds. This study aimed to examine the effect of MBLE addition on the quality and shelf life of anchovy sambal under accelerated storage conditions. The extract was obtained via ethanol maceration of dried banana leaves and applied to the sambal at concentrations of 0% (control), 2%, 3%, and 4%. Samples were stored at 55 °C for 21 days. Parameters evaluated included pH, total plate count (TPC), and organoleptic attributes such as color, characteristic sambal aroma, off-odor intensity, and texture. Results revealed that MBLE addition had no significant effect on pH reduction but effectively inhibited microbial growth, with the best performance at 4% MBLE, which yielded the lowest microbial count (2.6 × 10⁵ CFU/g). Organoleptic assessment indicated that sambal with 2% MBLE received the highest preference scores in terms of color, aroma, and overall sensory acceptance. Noticeable sensory quality degradation was observed from day 7 of storage. It can be concluded that MBLE is effective in extending the shelf life of anchovy sambal and serves as a promising natural preservative at concentrations between 2% and 4%. Further research is recommended to explore the interaction of packaging methods and storage temperatures on the product’s physicochemical and sensory stability throughout its distribution chain.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to ascertain the utilization of brochures in the context of rice cultivation in Pangkuri Village, Rarowatu District, Bombana Regency. The population of this study consists of farmers residing in Pangkuri Village, with a total of 284 farmers included in the analysis. The sample size was determined using the Slovin formula with a 15% error margin, resulting in a sample size of 38 individuals. The data was collected through a combination of survey techniques, documentation, and interviews, with the use of questionnaires. The research variable is the utilization of brochures in rice cultivation. The researchers employed descriptive analysis, utilizing class interval formulas, to address the research objectives. The results of the study indicate that the use of brochures in rice cultivation in Pangkuri Village is categorized as good, both as a source of information, a learning tool, and a source of inspiration for innovation, with the majority of farmers actively utilizing brochures to enhance their knowledge, skills, and agricultural productivity. Brochures have proven to be an effective medium for conveying technical information concisely and visually, ranging from cultivation techniques to environmental management, and encouraging farmers to adopt more efficient and sustainable agricultural practices. The role of brochures in various dimensions of farmer learning, from information dissemination, facilitating self-directed learning, to encouraging local innovation in agricultural practices. Simple printed media like brochures still hold high relevance in the digital age, especially in rural contexts with limited access to technology, and can serve as an effective communication strategy in community-based agricultural extension programs.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to analyze and describe participatory extension services in food crop agricultural extension services in Konawe Regency. The research was conducted from September to December of 2023. The research location was purposefully selected in Konawe Regency. The population under consideration consisted of all 113 agricultural extension workers (extension workers specializing in food crops) and civil servants (ASN) in Konawe Regency. The sample was selected through a census (saturated sampling). The present study employed descriptive statistical analysis, utilizing the class interval formula. The participatory extension services variables in this study are described in three categories: (1) low/insufficient; (2) moderate/sufficient; and (3) high/good. The findings suggest that the implementation of participatory extension services in Konawe Regency falls within the moderate category. Food crop extension workers in Konawe Regency have effectively implemented participatory extension indicators; however, improvements are necessary to achieve a high category.

Abstract

The aim of the research was to study the effect of organic fertilizer and combination of NPK on the growth and yield of peanus on ultisol soils. The study was conducted in the Labibia sub district, Kendari city, from JanuaryMarch to July 2024. The study was arranged in a randomized block design (RBD) in a factorial pattern with three replications consisting of 2 factors. The first factor was organic fertilizer which consisted of 4 levels, namely: control (B0), 5 t ha-1 (B1), 10 t ha-1 (B2), and 15 t ha-1 (B3). The second factor was combination of NPK fertilizer which consisted of 3 levels, namely control (P0), 50 kg ha-1 (P1), and 100 kg ha-1 (P2) so that there were 4x3x3=36 experimental units. Observation variables included: plant height, leaf area, weight of 100 seeds, yield per plot and yield per ha. The results showed that there was an interaction between organic fertilizer and combination of NPK fertilizer on the observed variables. The best results were obtained in the treatment of 15 t ha-1 of organic fertilizer and 100 kg combination1 of NPK fertilizer with the highest production reaching 1,300 t ha-1.
