Folia Medica Indonesiana, as indicated by its name, focuses on publishing good quality articles about research and education on health science and medicine in Indonesia. However, due to the fast growth of science and knowledge in these fields, we also welcome submitted articles from around the world, especially the ones that contain related matters from lower-middle income countries. Folia Medica Indonesiana is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal that is published online at least four times a year. The scope covers various aspects of basic medical sciences includes anatomy, physiology, pathology, microbiology, pharmacology, and molecular medicine) and clinical medicine (covers specialties like internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, oncology, psychiatry, etc). We highlight the pathology and potential treatment of metabolic syndromes and infectious diseases. Folia Medica Indonesiana also encourages the publication of articles about health education. The scope includes, but is not limited to, articles that emphasize on preventive education on certain diseases in a community, also research report of various materials and/or methods to develop medical education. We recognize the importance of this type of articles to be published alongside the assigned topic in each of our yearly issues, to provide our readers with updated information in medical sciences’ research and education simultaneously.

Abstract

Several studies have recently highlighted the important role of physical exercise in regulation inflammatory status, but there is relatively little known about markers of inflammation levels after physical exercise in post ischemic stroke patients. The aims of this study to provide the effects of physical exercise using Partial Body-Weight Supported Treadmill Training –Audio Cues (PBWSTT-AC) and Traditional method on the level of inflammatory markers C-Reactive Protein (CRP). This study using pretest-postest control group design, 14 post ischemic stroke patients were randomized and allocate to two groups: Group1 (control group) received traditional walking exercise and group 2 received PBWSTT-AC. The walking exercise study were conducted for 20 minute 3 times a week for 12 sessions (4 weeks). Before and after 12 session of exercises, the serum levels of CRP were determined using immunoserology. All statistical test were carried out using SPSS 17 and statistical significance was set at p<0.05 for all analysis. The CRP levels between group were compared using Student t test or Mann-Whitney test. From multiple comparisons statistic result, no significant difference between groups (p=0.898), that seem in this study the levels of CRP of poststroke patients is not influenced by the Traditional training and PBWSTT-AC. The conclusion of this study that both traditional method and PBWTT-AC in 4 weeks exercise training seem have no effect on CRP levels.

Abstract

Foot infection is a common and serious problem in people with diabetes, which require proper management (diagnostic and therapeutic approaches) that can be cured. Empiric antibiotic regimen should be based on clinical data and bacteria pattern that are available, but definitive therapy should be based on the results of the infected tissue culture. The selection of initial antibiotic therapy was difficult and unwise use can lead to antibiotic-resistant. Evaluation is needed for using antibiotics to benefit wisely. The aim of this research is to analyzed the pattern of bacteria in diabetic foot and to its sensitivity test to antibiotics, analyze empiric antibiotics that can be recommended, and analyzed the use of antibiotics by Gyssen method. Data was analyzed with observational studies (descriptive non-experimental), retrospectively and prospectively in patients diabetic foot infection that met inclusion criteria. Retrospective data are used to analyzed bacteria pattern and its sensitivity test, while prospective data are used to evaluated the use of antibiotics based on bacteria pattern, during the period of late March-early August 2015 at Mardi Waluyo Hospital. Evaluation was conducted by Gyssen method. The results, retrospective data samples obtained 30 infection bacteria during August 2014-March 2015. The prevalence of gram-negative bacteria as 53.33% with most types of bacteria E.coli and Klebsiella oxytoca (13.33%), and gram-positive bacteria as 46.67% with the highest bacteria are Staphylococcus spp. and Streptococcus spp. From the prospective data in inclusion criteria, 13 patients with the highest prevalence of gram-negative bacteria are Klebsiella oxytoca (28.57%), and most gram-positive Staphylococcus auerus (35.71%). While the qualitative analysis of antibiotic use was conducted on 50 types of antibiotics. The results of the qualitative analysis using Gyssens method obtained category as 62%, 2%, 14%, 2B category as 26%, 3A category as 10%, 4A category 52%, 4B category as 6%, 4C category as 8% and there are no use of antibiotics in the category V and VI. Conclusions, Gyessen method can show that the use of antibiotics in diabetic foot patients in Mardi Waluyo hospital is dominated by inaccuracy in choice of antibiotic, and inaccuracies in the interval antibiotics.

Abstract

Nausea and vomiting may occur in patients receiving chemotherapy, a condition referred to as chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting. The provision of combined dexamethasone and ondansetron or granisetron is the therapeutic management of acute phase nausea and vomiting in cytostatics with a high risk of nausea and vomiting. Granisetron has been known to have better pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics compared to ondansetron, so it is possible to have nausea and vomiting suppressing effect higher than that of ondansetron. This study aimed to compare antiemetic effectiveness of granisetron and dexamethasone with ondansetron and dexamethasone in acute-phase chemotherapy patients. This study was conducted in patients who received the combination of cisplatin-paclitaxel and cisplatin-fluorouracil, double-blind, with samples comprised new head and neck surgical oncology patients. Measurement of nausea and vomiting during the acute phase of chemotherapy was conducted using Index of Nausea, Vomiting, and Retching (INVR). Observation of nausea and vomiting in the patients was done during the first 12 hours after administration of cisplatin and interviews were conducted on h 12. Results showed that there was no difference in the effectiveness of nausea and vomiting suppression in the administration of granisetron and dexamethasone compared to ondanstron and dexamethasone in acute phase chemotherapy patients (p = 0.076).
