Abstract

The general objective of this study is to create a model of treatment for children with learning difficulties (CLD) by accommodation-based learning with elements: (1) material and techniques of instruction; (2) assignment and evaluation; (3) time demand and schedules; and (4) evironment of learning. The specific objective of this study is to create an accommodation-based treatment manual for CLD to: (1) provide educational services and instruction for CLD; (2) improve teachers knowledge and awareness of the importance of learning accomodation for CLD; and (3) increase the learning avchievement of CLD. This study is research and development. Data collection is conducted through the Delphi technique, focus group discussion (FGD), questionnaire, observation, interview, and documentation. Data analysis is descriptive. The findings show that: (1) In the first years: (a) CLD treatment has not been adequately performed; it means that the exact solution has not been found out in learning accommodation for CLD; (b) teachers perception and expectation on learning problems of CLD have not been quite positive; (c) the prototype of CLD treatment based on learning accommodation has been limitedly to test-driven and can be developed as a model of treatment for CLD in the elementary school. Its implementation is based on a manual of learning accommodation application for CLD. (2) In the second years, the model and product have been validated through the main field testing and operational field testing; and stated as a fit and effective model of CLD treatment in the elementary school. The effectiveness of the accommodation learning treatment is evident from indicators that the elementery school teachers have applied the model and product found in the manual books for CLD instructional flexibilities. In addition, the application of the model has improved the (a) learning motivation; (b) social interaction; and (c) academic achievement of CLD

Abstract

This study is aimed at improving students analytical skills to solve problems in physics courses. The subjects of this study are students participating in the odd semester courses of the 2009/2010 academic year. The study is classroom action research. The data are quantitative and qualitative. The most important thing of this model of teaching is in explaining the types of problems graphically on each topics, before they are presented mathematically. The steps in this learning model of problem solving approach are: 1) explain the procedure of problem solving,2) explain material graphically for each topics, 3) construct mathematic formula and calculate it, 4) give some examples applying the method, 5) exercise in group as well as individually. The results of the study show that this model of teaching can improve 58% of subjects for the middle level of questions for having a B grade. It is suggested to combine this model with the cooperative learning approach

Abstract

The study is aimed at finding out the dominant physical elements in traditional sports. The traditional sports studies in the research are bentengan, hadang, egrangdan lari balok. Using the qualitative research method, the study includes physical skill elements as the object of the study. The subjects of the study are 56 Semester V PGSD students. Data are recorded by observations. Descriptive qualitative analyses are subjected to the collected data. Findings show that the bentengan game is characteristized by the following physical skill elements: aerobic and anaerobic endurances, feet endurance, and sprint speed. In hadang game, the dominant physical skill elements are: reaction speed, sprint speed, and agility. In the egrang game, the emerging dominant physical skill elements are: dynamic balance, strength endurance, and coordination.In the lari balok game, the emerging physical skills are: arm endurance, coordination, and balance. From the findings, it can be concluded that these tradional games are physical exercises that are easy and not costly and that give fun and joy

Abstract

The study is aimed at developing a model of social behaviour modifaction through a convergence-based learning media for autistic children at special schools. More specifically, the study is to describe (1) conditions and characteristics of autistic children, (2) competencies for language, academic, and pre-academic, and (3) development of the modification media. The study is developmental in two phases, namely (1) pre-development, and (2) development. The subjects are 10 autistic children from Bina Anggita special schools and leading special schools in the province chosen through purposive sampling by grade levels and class activities. The pre-development data are collected through observation and interviews; the development data through theoretical analysis and pre-research. Data are analyzed by a descriptive qualitative technique. Findings show (1) in the pre-development, subjects are (a) able to do a short eye contact, (b) have low pre-academic and academic conditions, and (c) not able to keep eye contact for five seconds, tend to have tantrums, weep for no reason, laugh, self-stimulate, mumble, and have short attention span; (2) convergence-based hypothetical plan for development steps: (a) assessment of social behaviours, (b) development of learning themes and sub-themes, (c) design of convergence-based learning media, (d) procedures of social behaviour modification merged in learning activities, and (e) monitoring and evaluation of outcomes of the subjects behaviour changes

Abstract

This study is aimed at developing and applying the logic modelin planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of programs used in the design of the entrepreneurship-based model of the reinforced life skill vocational learning for home engineering students. The first year of the research and development phases is carried out by means of qualitative and quantitative procedures with observation, interviews, focus group discussions, questionnaires, document reviews, and the data are analyzed by the descriptive qualitative technique. This first year of the study (2009) begins with the analysis of situations, problems, and needs analysis, to obtain data which later are developed into the basis of strengthening the implementation of vocational learning life skills in the second year phases (2010). The results show that students and alumni experienced various problems and have not been competent in entrepreneurship so that they need strengthening vocational life skill-based entrepreneurship. All activities are planned, developed, and evaluated on the basis of system components in the form of the logic model

Abstract

The purpose of this multi-year study is to identify the mastery of counseling skills of guidance teachers in Yogyakarta. A proportional sample of 33 junior high, senior high and vocational school guidance teachers in Yogyakarta participate in the study as research subjects. The research data are collected using a questionnaire instrument of counseling skills mastery and analyzed by quantitative and qualitative descriptive techniques. The results show that: 1) There are some counseling skills that are often used, but have not been mastered well. Some of these skills of counseling are attending, asking questions, giving support, clarifying, problem solving, focusing, and giving encouragement. 2) Most of the guidance teachers have not used these skills optimally in the counseling process. The suggestion of this study is to improve the mastery of the guidance teachers counseling skills through training, either through role playing or through practicing directly in handling cases. Teaching materials such as modules that assess counseling skills are needed. In addition, the schools need to provide support for guidance teachers to develop their performance by following the training to improve their mastery of counseling skills

Abstract

This study is aimed at knowing the adequacy of elementary school Islamic education teachers in Bantul regency, in relation with the number of teachers, number of teaching hours, and the distribution by district.A survey of the real condition in the field, the study formulates a map of the religious teachers in the regency.Data of the study are collected by questionnaire and documentation and are analyzed using the quantitative descriptive technique.Research results show: (1) the general condition of the current number of the religious teachers can be considered as sufficient, the number 69 people even has excess; (2) with the assumption of the fixed number of the student groups for the Islamic classes, teacher outside/inside mutations are not likely to occur. Bantul regency projects a surplus of religious teachers to as many as 17 persons until the year 2014
