Abstract

Mass media has three functions, namely education, information and entertainment. If we look at its function, the media really provides new innovations to society. These three functions not only have positive effects, but in fact mass media also has negative effects on society. With the function of mass media and its effects that can change attitudes, behavior and social order, mass media or broadcasting must have good control and be wise in providing information to the public. Every broadcasting in Indonesia must be regulated and controlled in presenting information. There are binding rules so that every element involved in presenting news or information must use it as a reference and guideline. The social responsibility of broadcasting that is currently expected is freedom of responsibility, with the understanding that media people or journalists are free to convey various information to the public, but are responsible for thinking about the improvement and morality of society. The role of broadcast media in Indonesia has a responsibility to the public by implementing the provisions of the Broadcasting Law and more specifically implementing P3SPS with high commitment, in order to realize broadcast quality and have a positive effect on society.

Abstract

Fashion or clothing is anything worn on the body that can cover or protect the body and can characterize someone who wears the fashion. Fashion can not only be used to beautify the body but also as a media symbol to convey messages to the audience. The purpose of this research is to find out fashion as an artifactual communication media in the formation of social identity of UNSAM Langsa female students and to find out the relationship between fashion and social identity formation. This study uses qualitative research with the type of field research and in this study using data collection techniques using observation, interviews and documentation techniques. The population in this study UNSAM Langsa female students majoring in history education amounted to 273 people. The sampling technique in this study used snowball sampling technique, therefore this study took a sample of 5 female students majoring in history education. The results showed that fashion can describe a person's self through the fashion they wear and can also describe the social identity of the person who wears the fashion.  However, not all things fashion can describe a person's self because some of them only consider fashion as a hobby.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the influence of the communication group, namely the wiritan, on the awareness of using the hijab among the women of the Marindal 1 wiritan, Harjosari II sub-district. This research is quantitative research. The population is all members of the Al-Qomar marindal 1 command, Harjosari II sub-district, Medan Amplas District, Medan City. The sample for this research was all members of the Al-Qomar military service, namely 60 members of the military service. The sampling technique used in this research was total sampling. Data collection techniques used in this research were in two ways, namely interviews and distributing questionnaires. The data analysis technique used is a single analysis table, and hypothesis testing uses descriptive statistical analysis with SPSS version 26. The correlation coefficient obtained shows the number 0.364, in other words the influence of group communication that is carried out has a positive influence on awareness of wearing the hijab among women who wear the hijab. marindal 1, Harjosari II sub-district, Medan Amplas District, Medan City

Abstract

The role of father in parenting needs to be involved like a mother does. Not every father is able to follow the action and some children do not have much experience with a father figure or they just feel fatherless. In New Zealand, a father called Jordan Watson appeared to break the stigma that a father has to show off his masculine and strong identity. Jordan shares his contents with the viewers which are related to parenting through Instagram account @howtodadnz. This research is compiled to analyze the representation of fatherhood in that account by elaborating four aspects, such as emotional intimacy, provision, protection, and endowment with qualitative content analysis. The result of research showed that a father can actively stay engaged in parenting. The representation of fatherhood are displayed by the compassion of the the father in giving his time for his children, growing confidence, protecting children from risks, and engaging in positive habit.

Abstract

Digital media plays a crucial role in shaping Sosial awareness regarding the issue of bullying, which increasingly occurs within virtual spaces. This critical descriptive qualitative study analyzes the role of the Sosial media platform TikTok in building anti-bullying awareness through the case study of the activism and subsequent death of Timothy Anugerah Saputra, a student at FISIP Udayana University, Bali. The findings indicate that while TikTok serves as an effective advocacy platform for spreading empathy through storytelling, its virality features (Duet/Stitch) ironically accelerated systematic and fatal cyberbullying. The case highlights a failure of the dual system, encompassing inadequate platform moderation and insufficient institutional support, which failed to adequately respond to the massive attacks. This emphasizes the critical need for ethical digital media utilization and the strengthening of psychoSosial interventions in the online sphere

Abstract

Framing of fuel hike by online media Waspada.id and Medanbisnisdaily.com This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach that uses a framing analysis model of news text as primary data. In this study, researchers only took 5 (five) news from each media that was considered to have represented other news from each online media, using purposive sampling techniques. The conclusion of the results of research on online media Waspada.id and Medanbisnisdaily.com is seen from the first Entman framing tool to define problems. Online media Waspada.id and Medanbisnisdaily.com both define that the case of fuel increase is an economic problem, but in this case Waspada tends to be more aggressive in reporting the event of fuel increase. In the second Entman tool, estimating the problem or source of the problem (Diagnose cause) the two media put the increase in fuel as the source of the problem in their reporting, while the public was considered as a victim of this event. Third, make moral judgments contained in the news of fuel increases on Waspada, namely that the government is considered not to think about the impact of fuel increases on the community. While in Medanbisnis there are two moral decisions, namely the local government in the North Sumatra region seeks to prevent and overcome the impact of fuel increases. The fourth framing device emphasizes the solution (Treatment recommendation) offered in the news of the fuel increase in Waspada, namely conveying the aspirations of the community to the DPRD RI or the central government. Abstract

Social media is a place that is visited by many young people in various parts of the world. They are free to do anything, one of which is getting information from anywhere, various information scattered on social media can trigger the spread of fake news or often called hoaxes and various other negative things. Therefore, media literacy is needed to support social media activities. According to Art Silverbatt in (Tamburaka, 2016) media literacy is a media awareness movement by the mass media community using a media delivery system approach to media audiences. Media literacy is very much needed to provide knowledge and further cultivate a reading or writing movement so that it can bombard the virtual community to be proficient in receiving false information and other similar things. This paper focuses on discussing how the ability of kpi iain langsa students in media literacy and what are the obstacles to media literacy in kpi iain langsa students. This article is designed with a qualitative research approach, with a research focus using descriptive methods. The results of this study indicate that the mastery of media literacy of kpi students is normal or in the sense that it is quite adequate in literacy, kpi students are able to use the media technically well, they are also able to think critically and can filter incoming information and are able to produce or create content in new media. There are no significant obstacles in the ability of beliterasi to kpi students iain langsa, but only related to technical obstacles.

Abstract

Public Speaking is needed in its application. The BicaraPede academy is a platform that focuses on self- development in the realm of public speaking, accompanied by certified professional mentors. The purpose of the research is to understand and know the communication patterns used by the mentors of BiacaraPede Academy and to know the dominant communication patterns in the application of exclusive offline class public speaking training. This research uses Joseph A. Devito's communication pattern theory, consisting of Y, wheel, circle, star and chain patterns. The method in the research is a case study while data collection includes observation, interviews, analysis and documentation. The results showed that the communication patterns used were star and circle communication patterns as well as linear, primary, and circular as supporting communication patterns. Meanwhile, the dominant patterns are circular and star patterns. Participants and mentors have the same rights or power to influence each other. The occurrence of a reciprocal process in the form of an active response that can lead to changes can be said that communication is effective.

Abstract

This study explores flood crisis management strategies developed by local communities through a bottom-up approach and community-driven crisis management perspective. The research investigates how communities in Medan City manage flood crises through three integrated phases: emergency response, post-disaster recovery, and long-term adaptation. Using descriptive qualitative methods with in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and local document analysis of flood-affected communities during the November 2025 disaster, this research identifies patterns of spontaneous responses grounded in indigenous local knowledge, mobilization of social networks through informal leadership, and collective learning that transforms adaptive community behaviors. The findings reveal that communities are not passive actors but active respondents who organize indigenous early warning systems, simple technology-based emergency communication, and mutual assistance as mechanisms for socio-economic recovery. This study emphasizes the critical importance of recognizing and strengthening community local capacity in collaborative and participatory disaster management policies that promote sustainable resilience and inclusive disaste r risk reduction.

Abstract

The development of social media in the global era has transformed the way people interact, express opinions, and access information. Instigram is one of the social media platforms that has substantial influence due to its visual-based content and high level of user interaction. This study aims to examine the role of Instagram as an educational space in promoting digital literacy and enhancing public participation in social and national issues. The research method employed is a literature review by analyzing various national and international scholarly sources realted to digital literacy, public communication, and the use of Instagram. The findings indicate that Instagram function not only as a medium for communication and entertainment but also as a platform for learning and community empowerment through educational content, public discussions, and digital campaigns These activities encourage critical thinking, digital ethics, and active participation in online public space. However, challanges such as misinformation, algorithmic bias, and users limited ability to critically evaluate information remain significant barriers. Therefore, collaborative efforts among governments, educational institutions, and communities are necessary to strengthen an inclusive and responsible culture of digital literacy, particulary in the use of Instagram.
