Abstract

The case of bullying in the Specialist Doctor Education Program (PPDS) in Anesthesiology at Universitas Diponegoro (Undip) became a prominent issue in the media after allegations of psychological pressure that led to fatal consequences for a program participant. The role of the mass media, especially online media such as Kompas.com and Detik.com, is crucial in framing the news related to this case. The media's framing affects how the public perceives the issue, shapes public opinion, and encourages action or policy changes from the relevant parties. This study aims to analyze how Kompas.com and Detik.com framed the coverage of the PPDS Anesthesiology Undip case. Using Robert N. Entman’s framing analysis model, this study examines framing elements such as problem definition, causes, moral evaluation, and proposed solutions in the news coverage. This research also identifies the differences and similarities in framing by both media outlets. The findings reveal distinct framing approaches between the two media outlets. Kompas.com emphasized structural issues, particularly the inadequate oversight systems and hierarchical culture within medical education. In contrast, Detik.com focused on event chronology and emotional impact. Despite these differences, both outlets consistently advocated for systemic reforms in medical education to prevent future bullying incidents. This research contributes to communication studies literature by examining media framing of sensitive social issues and provides insights for mass media organizations in delivering balanced coverage while promoting educational reform advocacy.

Abstract

This research focuses on the critical discourse analysis of Teun A. van Dijk's paradigm as applied to the news article published on Detik.com titled "Viral! Husband in East Jakarta Was Assaulted and Dragged by a Car When He Caught His Wife Cheating." The study employs a qualitative descriptive method with techniques including observation and reading, data classification, analysis, presentation, and conclusion. The findings indicate that the news article aligns with the critical discourse analysis model, encompassing text structure (macrostructure, superstructure, microstructure), social cognition, and social context as outlined in Teun A. van Dijk's theory. This research contributes to discourse analysis scholarship by illustrating how van Dijk's theoretical framework can reveal the underlying structural and social dimensions of contemporary digital news media.

Abstract

This article discusses how the structure of critical discourse analysis in Norman Fairclough's research model can dissect and analyze the ideology conveyed by the author through a newspaper article published in 'Kompas' on December 3, 2024. The method used for the analysis involves a functional approach, paying attention to the social and cultural contexts to uncover and understand the author's ideology and the context being conveyed through the article titled 'Selamat Tinggal Paspor Indonesia'. According to Norman Fairclough's model, the analysis is divided into three structural levels: microstructural, mesostructural, and sociocultural studies. Findings demonstrate how media discourse shapes public understanding of complex socio-economic issues, particularly regarding human capital flight and national development disparities between Indonesia and Singapore. This analysis contributes to our understanding of how media texts influence public perception of national identity and economic mobility in Southeast Asia.

Abstract

This study assessed the implementation of open-knowledge guidelines and librarians’ contribution to academic journals in Nigeria. The study employed a descriptive research design, focusing on all librarians in Delta State. One hundred and thirteen librarians were selected through total enumeration, with data collected via a questionnaire. Analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, and mean. Results showed that most librarians acknowledged their lack of involvement in various academic journals. (Agg. x̄ = 2.42, Crit. x̄ = 2.50). The level of institutional support provided to librarians for engaging in academic journals is low (Agg. x̄ = 2.03, Crit. x̄ = 2.50). More so, the study revealed that the extent to which open-knowledge guidelines are implemented among the librarians is low (Agg. x̄ = 1.56, Crit. x̄ = 2.50). The study concluded that librarians struggle with broader scholarly activities because of low institutional support, inadequate training, and poor implementation of open-knowledge guidelines. These issues are further compounded by a lack of funding, technical support, mentoring, and incentives Consequently, it was suggested that the administration of institutions under study should give librarians focused opportunities for professional development to improve their research abilities, establish incentives for joint research projects involving librarians and lecturers, and set aside specific time for librarians to conduct research and publish their findings.

Abstract

Source code in computer science is a set of commands used to solve problems written in languages that can be understood by computers. Programming languages use concise syntax, and due to this conciseness, they avoid redundancy and ambiguity. However, these languages are often difficult to learn because they require strict adherence to specific syntactic rules. One approach to minimize the difficulty for programmers is to allow program writing using natural language, which is more flexible and easier for humans to understand. Therefore, this research aims to translate natural language, specifically Indonesian, into Pascal source code. The method applied is a rule-based method consisting of three stages: preprocessing (case folding and filtering), analysis (scanning and parsing), and translation. The preprocessing stage removes noise, the analysis stage checks conformity with the defined grammar, and the translation stage converts Indonesian commands into Pascal syntax. Testing was conducted using 60 Indonesian command texts across three types of loop structures (for do, while do, and repeat until). The system achieved an accuracy of approximately 95%. The results show that the rule-based approach is effective in translating repetitive structures. However, improvements to the grammar and parsing rules are recommended to address translation errors and further enhance system accuracy.

Abstract

Changes in this era have given rise to many trends, especially in the beauty sector, such as skincare and makeup, which are starting to be popular with the public. This trend is also followed by several artists or influencers who initially only promoted beauty products and eventually produced their own brands of beauty products or are also known as prosumers. This prosumer trend is followed by Madame Gie, the brand from artist Gisella Anastasia. The target of this study is to observe the impact of brand image and consumer satisfaction on customer satisfaction on social media. Unlike other beauty brands, Madam Gie, which is owned by Gisella Anastasia, is also able to compete in this digital era with the help of social media such as Instagram which can ultimately give rise to a new phenomenon, namely prosumers and the existing brand image is also an important factor for customer satisfaction because this only happens. on social media. This study used a quantitative method using a convenience sampling technique, the population was followers of the Madam Gie brand on Instagram. Next, the data obtained was processed using the SPSS application with a multiple linear regression test. This study found that brand image and prosumer variables had a positive impact on consumer satisfaction. Of the two independent variables, prosumers have a stronger influence in building customer satisfaction. Clear information about products and consumers who understand the beauty products needed by the market increase customer satisfaction.

Abstract

Media convergence is an inevitable occurrence for mass media companies because convergence is the key to the sustainability of the media industry in the current multimedia era. Media convergence also cannot be separated from student life, therefore media convergence on the Netflix application is one of their new choices in order to meet the satisfaction of entertainment. The purpose of this study is to identify the role of media convergence in the Netflix application in the daily lives of Gen Z, and this study uses qualitative methods which later researchers will collect data by conducting interviews with 2 Gen Z who watch shows on Netflix and 1 expert informant who is experienced in the field of video streaming. After the interview is conducted, the data will be transcribed and reanalyzed by coding. The results of this study show that the media convergence that occurs on Netflix has its own role for Gen Z, they now prefer to watch movies or series through Netflix because they can be watched anywhere and anytime, Netflix is also indirectly a source of information for Gen Z, although they still have the purpose of watching shows on Netflix as entertainment. Basically, the internet is the main factor why media convergence on Netflix and other video streaming applications occurs, because the internet can change the style and way of life of humans to all aspects of life.
