Abstract

Daylighting is the use of natural light to provide illumination in buildings during the day. This reflector tunnel modul is designed to transmit natural light (direct sun rays and sky light) to provide illumination in the building. This modul consist of 4 components, receiver, transmitter, elbow beam deflector and emerging component. 2 mm glass mirror are laminated inside all squared profile tunnel, reflecting and transmitting incident natural rays and emerging them into the room. This modul uses common glass mirror. The receiver is covered by doom which function as light collector, particularly for rays come at the wide angle. The emerging component is covered by diffuse flat glass for reducing glare and obtaining more comfortable light. Average light track inside modul is about 1.125 m. This light guide modul is installed in the chamber during performance tests are carried out. Performance tests show that the average light attenuation of 0.77 dB/m is resulted. Some problems still remain tobe solved to apply this modul commercially, such as : replacing glass mirror by metal substances, technical and cost of fabrication, maintenace and installation matters, and estetical values that must be added.

Abstract

Municipal waste has high economic value if the organic and inorganic waste has been separated at the source. If organic and inorganic waste mixed, municipal waste has lower (no) value and environment harmful. There are many technologies for waste treatment i e steam generator using waste as fuel. The technology produces steam and reduces the waste significantly. The experiment of steam generation system performance has beendone with waste as fuel and kerosene as a comparator fuel. The experiment with waste fuel resulted the stable flame, odorless and the time for steam formation is faster compared to kerosene stove.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country that contains by some large islands and thousand small islands. It means a communication very important. Increasing in the market demand, especially communication serves make some vendor to produce aninstrument called Base Transceiver Station (BTS). BTS is very important in network telecommunication because it connect telecommunication operator with its costumers. But the problem to operate BTS in far region is electrical power supply. For handling its problem is by using BTS with SESF, or often called Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Surya Fotovoltaik (PLTS Photovoltaic), where it claimed need less energy. Because it took a lot cost for photovoltaic instrument, this paper will descript how to design hybrid system, a union of photovoltaic and diesel.

Abstract

Jatropha Curcas oil as non edible oil is one alternative part of solution for subsitution fosilfuel becoming a great potential biofuel raw material wich recently very popular and seems to be very promising as a future fuel. The plant can be grown on very poor soils and gives a high everage yield of seeds. The JatrophaCurcas.L plantations can be developed to remote area (villages) as a monoculture or tumpangsari (multiple crops). Energi Technology Center (B2TE), BPPT and Ministry of Research and Technology has design and built an 3 x 6 tonnes sheeds/day Jatropha Curcas pilot plant in Ogan Komering Timur (OKUT), South Sumatera. The plant can be processing 18 ton/day seeds, to be coverred 1500 Ha Jatropha curcas plantitions and Pure Jatropha Oil production (PJO) is around 5900 – 6200 liters/day or 2.094.500 – 2.165.500 litters/year.

Abstract

This paper presents an energy saving study result conducted in a sugar factory located in the East Java of Indonesia. Formerly, the sugar factory was designed to fulfil their energy demand by using an abundance free energy sources, called “baggase”. However, a fossil fuel consumption (i.e. residue) increased sharply to supply boilers due to the baggase availability was not sufficient. It impacted to the increasing of operational costs. Therefore, an energy saving study for the factory had been an interesting subject. The study proposed to assess boilers performance in the factory to reduce residue consumption. A detail energy audit method was conducted to identify the actual energy consumption, energy losses, and energy saving potential. The study results showed that energy saving potential for the boilers was about 11%. The main energy saving measures was to increase boilers efficiency from 64% to 75%. The study report also included with repairing recommendation for the boilers as well as its techno-economic analysis.

Abstract

Traditional methods of drying of agricultural products in Indonesian are commonly done by farmers or smallholders. The product has poor quality because of insect infestation, contamination from dirt and filth. A prototype of integrated solar-biomass hybrid tunnel drier was installed and tested at Serpong, Tangerang. In this investigation was used 44 kg tilapia mossambica fish, meanwhile the full capacity of the drier was 150 kg. The fish was initially treated with brine salt and stacked for about 12 hours before drying. The salt treated fish was dried to average moisture contents 13.34% – 14.38% w.b. from 70% w.b. in 29 hours. The fish was completely protected from rain, insects and dust. The combination of solar energy and biomass stove at low solar irradiation was able to increase the drying air 8 oC above ambient temperature.

Abstract

This paper is reporting an analysis energy use on Biotechnology Laboratory in Puspiptek Area. Analysis of electrical energy use concern power demand and power factor improvement. Power demand improvement can be done by reducing power purchase close to maximum power that might be happened. It is verybeneficial for reducing fix load cost. Power factor improvement as part of energy saving can reduce losses at distribution line, motor, transformer, reduce installed capacity, and also avoid penalty factor. Optimization of transformer operation can also reduce core and copper winding losses. According to the analysis gave theresult of saving potential is Rp. 218,72 million/year.

Abstract

A solar air-heating collector having a surface area of 230.4 m2 has been installed and integrated to a drying chamber to dry wood of 100 m3. The collector was classified as a matrix type collector with its absorber was made from black carbon fiber sheet. Collector worked together with a biomass boiler to supply heat to dryingchamber. The test results indicated that the thermal efficiencies of collector per batch were around 20%-31%.
