Abstract

Objective: The objective of this study is to examine the implementation of STEAM learning in enhancing the critical thinking skills of high school students in Physics, particularly in Indonesia. Method:  The methodology consists of a literature review, which involves identifying and evaluating articles or journals related to STEAM learning and its impact on students’ critical thinking in Physics. Through a systematic screening process, the initial 40 articles were narrowed down to 30, and ultimately, 20 articles were selected for detailed review. Results: The findings reveal that the application of STEAM learning has a significant positive effect on the critical thinking abilities of high school students with respect to Physics. Novelty: This approach aligns with global and national initiatives such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), highlighting the need for innovative educational programs that address contemporary challenges. In the 21st century, critical thinking, analytical skills, and creativity are essential. STEAM education—integrating science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics—serves as an effective strategy to equip students for future demands in education and beyond.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to identify trends, visualize trend mapping, document sources, types, and determine which countries contribute the most, identify top authors, and explore opportunities for STEAM-based physics learning publications in improving SDG 4 in educational research. Method: This research was conducted using bibliometric analysis and systematic review methods, employing the PRISMA framework to gather relevant data for the discussion. The Scopus database was used, providing data in the form of a CSV file. The analyses were visualized using the VOSViewer application. Results: The data mapping reveals several impactful studies, including: 1) the role of STEAM learning in achieving the 4th sustainable development goal; 2) cell engineering as a contributor to the 13th sustainable development goal; 3) renewable energy sources such as biomass, geothermal energy, steam turbines, and solar energy to support the achievement of SDG 7, as well as the importance of energy efficiency in reducing carbon emissions to contribute to SDG 13. The most common source type identified is journals, with 83 publications, while articles represent the predominant documented type with 67 publications. The United States stands out as the leading country, contributing 42 publications. Additionally, the top authors identified in this study are Hsiao, P.W. and Su, C.H., with a total of 39 citations. Novelty: This research is novel because it specifically evaluates the STEAM learning model's effectiveness in enhancing SDG 4 within the context of physics education.

Abstract

Objective: The era of Society 5.0 requires individuals to have strong critical thinking skills. STEAM learning improves critical thinking skills by integrating science, technology, engineering, art, and math. This study aims to systematically review the existing literature on the effectiveness of STEAM learning in improving students' critical thinking skills, especially in achieving SDG point 4, namely quality education. Method: This research uses the literature review method. A total of 20 relevant articles that met the inclusion criteria were selected and analyzed in depth to identify key findings related to the impact of STEAM learning on the development of critical thinking skills. Results:  The analysis shows that STEAM learning has significant potential in improving students' critical thinking skills. Some key findings include the following: STEAM learning stimulates students to think critically, creatively, and analytically in solving problems; STEAM facilitates the development of collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills that are relevant to the demands of the future world of work, and STEAM learning contributes to the achievement of SDGs point 4 by providing quality and appropriate education for students.  Novelty: This research contributes to the field of education by presenting a comprehensive review of the effectiveness of STEAM learning in improving critical thinking skills in the context of achieving SDGs point 4. The results of this research can be a reference for educators, curriculum developers, and policymakers in designing effective learning programs to prepare young people for future challenges.

Abstract

Objective: The main goal of this study is to examine the impact of applying a Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model, grounded in local wisdom and integrated with a STEAM approach, on improving students' creative thinking skills in high school physics education. This objective aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially those focused on quality education. Method: This research employs a literature review methodology utilizing qualitative descriptive methods. It analyzes various national and international journals related to project-based learning based on local wisdom, published within the last five years. Results: In the research, work and project-based learning becomes discovery significantly enhances students' understanding of physics concepts. The study demonstrates that PjBL fosters deeper learning, allowing students to develop not only their comprehension of physics but also essential skills such as problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork in real-world contexts. Moreover, integrating local wisdom within the PjBL framework increases students' interest in cultural preservation and enhances their scientific literacy through hands-on project activities. Novelty: The novelty of the research lies in the unique integration of local wisdom into the PjBL STEAM framework, an area that remains relatively underexplored in existing literature. By combining these elements, the study contributes to innovative teaching methodologies aimed at improving academic outcomes while promoting cultural awareness and appreciation among students. This approach offers a fresh perspective on aligning educational practices with global educational goals, all while fostering the creativity and critical thinking skills essential for the 21st century.
