Abstract

Anxiety in pregnant women approaching labor is a common psychological condition that can affect maternal well-being and birth outcomes. Family support is considered an important factor in reducing anxiety levels during this critical period. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between family support and anxiety levels among pregnant women approaching labor. This research used a quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study involved third-trimester pregnant women who were nearing delivery and attending antenatal care services at a selected health facility (N=50). Data were collected using structured questionnaires measuring family support and anxiety levels. Family support was assessed based on emotional, informational, and instrumental support, while anxiety levels were measured using a standardized anxiety scale. Data were analyzed using the Spearman correlation test with a significance level of p<0.05. The results showed that most respondents with good family support experienced lower anxiety levels, while those with poor family support tended to have moderate to high anxiety. Statistical analysis indicated a significant relationship between family support and anxiety levels among pregnant women approaching labor (r=-0.648 and p<0.001). These findings suggest that strengthening family involvement during pregnancy can reduce maternal anxiety and improve psychological readiness for childbirth

Abstract

Sleep quality during pregnancy plays an important role in maternal health, particularly in the third trimester when physiological and psychological changes increase significantly. Poor sleep quality may affect hemoglobin levels and contribute to anemia among pregnant women. This study aimed to determine the relationship between sleep quality and hemoglobin levels in third-trimester pregnant women. This research used an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study involved third-trimester pregnant women who attended antenatal care services at a selected health center (N=47). Sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), while hemoglobin levels were obtained through laboratory examination. Data were analyzed using the Spearman correlation test with a significance level of p<0.05. The results showed that most respondents experienced poor sleep quality and had mild to moderate anemia. Statistical analysis indicated a significant relationship between sleep quality and hemoglobin levels among third-trimester pregnant women (p=0.000), where poorer sleep quality was associated with lower hemoglobin levels. These findings suggest that improving sleep quality may help maintain adequate hemoglobin levels during pregnancy. Therefore, healthcare providers should include sleep quality assessment and education as part of routine antenatal care services.

Abstract

Malnutrition remains a major public health concern that contributes to infant morbidity and mortality worldwide. One of the important factors associated with infant nutritional status is exclusive breastfeeding, which provides optimal nutrition and may prevent long-term health problems such as stunting. However, previous studies have shown inconsistent findings regarding the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and infant nutritional status, particularly among infants aged 7–12 months. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding status and the nutritional status of infants aged 7–12 months in the working area of the Kotaanyar Community Health Center, Probolinggo Regency. This study used a correlational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 79 infants aged 7–12 months, and 64 respondents were selected using proportional stratified random sampling. Data were analyzed using the Lambda test. The results showed that 53.1% of infants did not receive exclusive breastfeeding, while 62.5% had good nutritional status. Statistical analysis revealed that the p-value was 0.95, which was greater than α = 0.05, indicating that there was no significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding status and the nutritional status of infants aged 7–12 months. In conclusion, exclusive breastfeeding status was not significantly associated with the nutritional status of infants aged 7–12 months in the Kotaanyar Community Health Center area.

Abstract

Nutritionist support during pregnancy plays an important role in improving dietary compliance among pregnant women with anemia. Adequate dietary adherence is essential to maintain maternal nutritional status and prevent complications associated with anemia during pregnancy. This study aimed to determine the relationship between nutritionist support and dietary compliance among pregnant women with anemia. This research used an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study involved pregnant women with anemia who attended antenatal care services at a selected health center method (purposive sampling N=41). Nutritionist support was measured using a structured questionnaire covering education, counseling, motivation, and monitoring aspects, while dietary compliance was assessed using a dietary adherence questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Spearman correlation test with a significance level of p<0.05. The results showed that most respondents who received good nutritionist support demonstrated higher dietary compliance compared to those who received less support. Statistical analysis indicated a significant relationship between nutritionist support and dietary compliance among pregnant women with anemia (p<0.05), where better nutritionist support was associated with improved dietary adherence. These findings suggest that strengthening nutrition counseling and continuous support from nutritionists may improve dietary compliance and help reduce the risk of anemia-related complications during pregnancy.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the relationship between residential distance and the utilization of midwifery services among pregnant women. Access to maternal health services remains an important factor influencing the quality of antenatal care, particularly in areas with limited transportation and health facilities. This research employed a quantitative analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of pregnant women who attended maternal health services at selected healthcare facilities. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using statistical tests to determine the association between residential distance and the utilization of midwifery services. The results showed that pregnant women living closer to healthcare facilities were more likely to utilize midwifery services regularly compared to those living farther away. Distance was identified as a significant factor affecting the frequency of antenatal visits and access to skilled maternal healthcare. In addition, transportation availability and socioeconomic conditions also influenced service utilization. The findings imply that improving accessibility to maternal healthcare services, including transportation support and equitable distribution of midwifery facilities, may increase the utilization of antenatal care among pregnant women and contribute to better maternal and fetal health outcomes.

Abstract

Knowledge of pregnant women is one of the internal factors that influences the increase in stunting. This is due to the lack of knowledge of pregnant women regarding the impact of stunting.  the prevalence of stunting is 6.35% (9,837 stunted toddlers) out of 154,824 toddlers. In the Arjasa health center 12.26% (333 stunted toddlers) out of 2,716 toddlers, while in Arjasa Village 13.7% (97 stunted toddlers) out of 705 toddlers. Based on preliminary studies, 6 out of 10 pregnant women could not answer about stunting. Maternal knowledge is one of the elements that can influence stunting rates. The purpose is to examine the difference in stunting knowledge before and after receiving education by leaflet media. A one-group pretest-posttest design was used in this pre-experimental study. The population consisted of 67 pregnant women, with a sample of 57 pregnant women drawn using a simple random sampling. The instrument used a questionnaire, analyzed using the Spearman Test. Pregnant mothers have good knowledge of stunting before receiving an education (10.5%) and after receiving education (86%). The Spearman test resulted in a p-value of 0.000, which is less than the threshold of α (0.05). The null hypothesis was rejected, indicating a significant difference. There is a difference in pregnant women's knowledge of stunting after receiving education through leaflet media. This has resulted in increased awareness of stunting among pregnant women, and it is hoped that leaflet media will become a viable medium for giving health education to pregnant women

Abstract

Regular antenatal care (ANC) visits are essential to monitor maternal and fetal health during pregnancy and to reduce the risk of pregnancy complications. However, the regularity of ANC visits among pregnant women is still influenced by several factors, including health insurance ownership. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between BPJS ownership and the regularity of antenatal care visits among pregnant women. The study employed a quantitative analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of pregnant women who attended maternal health services at a healthcare facility, with samples selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires and maternal health records, then analyzed using the Chi-square statistical test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that pregnant women who owned BPJS were more likely to perform regular ANC visits compared to those without BPJS ownership. Statistical analysis indicated a significant relationship between BPJS ownership and the regularity of antenatal care visits (p < 0.05). BPJS ownership contributes to improving access to maternal healthcare services by reducing financial barriers during pregnancy. These findings highlight the importance of expanding health insurance coverage and strengthening maternal health promotion programs to improve compliance with ANC visits among pregnant women.

Abstract

Effective communication skills are essential competencies for midwifery students in providing quality maternal and neonatal care. This study aimed to analyze the influence of the role-play method on the communication skills of midwifery students. The research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test control group. A total of 60 midwifery students were selected through purposive sampling and divided into intervention (N=30) and control groups (N=30). The intervention group received communication training through role-play activities, while the control group received conventional lecture-based learning. Data were collected using a standardized communication skills assessment questionnaire and observation checklist. The results showed a significant improvement in the communication skills scores of students in the intervention group compared to the control group (p < 0.05). Role-play activities enhanced students’ confidence, empathy, active listening, and interpersonal communication abilities during simulated patient interactions. The findings indicate that the role-play method is an effective and interactive learning strategy for improving communication competencies among midwifery students. The study implies that integrating role-play into midwifery education curricula can support the development of professional communication skills needed in clinical practice.
