Abstract

Increasingly fierce competition in the pharmaceutical retail industry requires pharmacies to implement effective marketing strategies to increase sales turnover. The 7P marketing mix, which includes product, price, place, promotion, personnel, process, and physical evidence, is a relevant strategic approach in the context of pharmaceutical marketing, although its implementation is limited by pharmaceutical regulations, particularly in terms of drug promotion. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the marketing mix on sales revenue growth at Kimia Farma Kelud Pharmacy in Semarang City. This study used a mixed-method approach with an observational design and was conducted from January to April 2024. Quantitative data were obtained from the monthly sales turnover reports of Kimia Farma Kelud Pharmacy sourced from the Point of Sales (POS) system during the period 2019–2023, while qualitative data were obtained through structured interviews with the Managing Pharmacist of the Pharmacy to describe the implementation of the 7P marketing mix. The sampling technique used total sampling. Data analysis was performed through normality tests, regression tests, and t-tests to determine the effect of the marketing mix on sales revenue growth. The results showed that the application of the 7P marketing mix had a positive and significant effect on sales revenue growth at Kimia Farma Kelud Pharmacy in Semarang City. This is evidenced by the positive regression coefficient value (β = 0.483) and significance value p = 0.003 (< 0.05), thus accepting the alternative hypothesis. Descriptive analysis shows a consistent upward trend in turnover from the pre-pandemic period, during the COVID-19 pandemic, to the new normal era. These findings indicate that the integrated and regulatory-compliant application of the 7P marketing mix is effective in improving sales performance and strengthening the competitiveness of pharmacies amid the dynamics of a competitive pharmaceutical market. Keywords: 7P marketing mix, sales turnover, pharmacies, pharmaceutical marketing strategy, pharmaceutical retail competitiveness.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the description of dispensing errors and their causes in the prescription service process at the Esti Husada Clinic in Semarang City as an effort to improve patient safety and the quality of pharmaceutical services. The study used a mixed method design with a sequential explanatory approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. The quantitative stage was conducted through non-experimental descriptive prospective observation of 330 BPJS patient prescriptions during the period of May–July 2025 using an observation sheet in the form of a checklist compiled based on pharmaceutical service standards. The qualitative stage was conducted through semi-structured interviews with pharmaceutical personnel to identify the factors causing the errors. Quantitative data were analyzed descriptively using frequency distribution and percentages, while qualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The results showed that out of 330 prescriptions observed, there were 2 dispensing errors (0.6%), namely errors in the stage of preparing drugs that did not match the prescription request, while other stages such as compounding, labeling, rechecking, drug delivery, and providing information to patients were found to be error-free. Qualitative findings showed that workload, work experience, communication, and the educational level of pharmacy personnel were factors that could potentially influence the occurrence of dispensing errors. Overall, the low error rate indicates that pharmaceutical services at the clinic have been running quite well, but continuous prevention efforts are still needed through workload management, improving the competence of pharmaceutical personnel, and strengthening the re-examination system to maintain patient safety.  Keywords: dispensing error, pharmaceutical services, patient safety, drug prescriptions, clinics.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the dynamics of drug mechanisms in pharmacology through a qualitative approach based on literature review to gain a comprehensive understanding of its conceptual and implementational developments. The method used was qualitative research with a descriptive approach through literature studies, with data collection techniques in the form of literature searches, document analysis, and theoretical studies of scientific articles and relevant academic sources. Data analysis was carried out thematically through the stages of theme identification, data reduction, concept categorization, and inductive conclusion drawing to synthesize the findings systematically. The results of the study show that the mechanism of drug action is no longer understood reductionistically as a single interaction between a drug and a single biological target, but rather as a multidimensional process involving multiple molecular pathways, immune responses, regulatory validation, and the dynamics of communication and social context. These findings confirm a paradigm shift towards a systemic and interdisciplinary approach in modern pharmacology, including the integration of ethnopharmacology and health policy management. Overall, this study contributes to expanding the theoretical understanding of drug mechanisms of action and provides a conceptual basis for the development of more adaptive, evidence-based, and contextual pharmaceutical policies and practices. Keywords: drug mechanism of action, pharmacology, literature review, qualitative approach, health policy

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is a common menstrual pain experienced by adolescent girls and can negatively affect quality of life, learning activities, and daily productivity. The high prevalence of dysmenorrhea among adolescents, along with variations in the choice of treatment—both pharmacological and non-pharmacological—highlights the importance of understanding the patterns of therapy use that are safe and effective. This study aimed to describe the use of dysmenorrhea treatment among female students at SMAN 1 Meureudu, Pidie Jaya Regency. This study employed a descriptive design with a sample of 74 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The inclusion criteria were female students who had used pharmacological and/or non-pharmacological therapies and were willing to participate. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using univariate analysis. The results showed that the majority of respondents used non-pharmacological therapy (54.1%), followed by combination therapy (41.8%), and pharmacological therapy (4.1%). The most commonly used pharmacological treatment was paracetamol (40.3%), while the most frequently used non-pharmacological method was warm compress (23.8%). These findings indicate that adolescents tend to prefer non-pharmacological approaches in managing dysmenorrhea. Therefore, appropriate education is needed to ensure the selection of effective and rational treatment methods. Keywords: adolescent dysmenorrhea, pharmacological therapy, non-pharmacological therapy, paracetamol, warm compress
