Abstract

This study aimed to analyze teaching modules used by the English teacher in addressing students’ learning needs to provide Inclusive learning in the classroom. Assessing elements and strategies used by the teacher in designing the module and how teaching modules support teachers in facing the diversity of students’ learning needs in the class, as well as the challenges and successes during the implementation. Using qualitative research, this study involved document analysis, interviews, and classroom observation to identify the elements in the lesson plan that contribute to inclusive learning effectiveness. The finding suggested the use of interactive media and sources in teaching an inclusive class in order the teachings are able to cover students’ diverse needs. Through the modules, it can be observed that teachers implemented various strategies, including scaffolding techniques, differentiated tasks, collaborative learning, incorporating technology, and culturally responsive teaching. The findings also highlighted potential challenges in facing diverse classes, such as a lack of sources, time constraints, and a lack of professional development for teachers. The findings were expected to contribute to inclusive and adaptive teaching modules to cover the students’ diversity.

Abstract

This study examines the challenges that non-native English-speaking entrepreneurs face when communicating in global business and explores strategies to overcome these barriers. The main objective is to identify common linguistic and cultural barriers in international entrepreneurship and assess their impact on business success. A mixed-methods approach was used, combining a survey of 150 non-native entrepreneurs and in-depth interviews with 15 experienced business owners. Findings revealed that the most significant challenges included limited vocabulary, difficulties in professional writing (e.g., emails, proposals), and misunderstandings in cross-cultural negotiations. However, proactive strategies such as language training, digital tools (e.g., Grammarly, translation apps), and hiring bilingual staff have proven effective in mitigating these issues. The study concludes that although English proficiency remains a barrier, it can be overcome through targeted learning and adaptive communication techniques. Practical recommendations include integrating business English into entrepreneurship training programs and fostering a mindset for continuous language improvement. These measures can enhance global competitiveness among non-native entrepreneurs.

Abstract

English proficiency has become a pivotal skill for the growth and sustainability of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Southeast Sulawesi, especially in the context of accelerating digitalization and the ongoing recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Indonesia is home to approximately 66 million MSMEs, which account for 61% of the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employ over 97% of the country’s labor force. Despite their significant economic role, only around 26% of these enterprises have embraced digital platforms, limiting their potential to reach broader markets and engage in cross-border commerce. A major contributing factor to this digital lag is the low level of English language proficiency among business owners, which impedes their ability to create multilingual content, respond to international customers, and navigate global trade opportunities. This paper examines the strategic role of English literacy in empowering MSMEs through improved digital communication, enhanced marketing capabilities, and greater access to international networks. Drawing on recent studies, field observations, and stakeholder interviews, the paper identifies key barriers to English adoption and proposes actionable solutions, including tailored business English training and the integration of language education within entrepreneurial support programs. The study underscores the need for a holistic approach that combines language acquisition with digital literacy and capacity building to equip MSMEs for sustainable global engagement.

Abstract

English pronunciation is often a challenge for Indonesian students because many English sounds are not found in Indonesian. As a result, students often mispronounce certain words when speaking English. This study aimed to analyze the English vowel pronunciation produced by third-semester students of the English Department at Muhammadiyah University of Makassar when delivering speeches. This study employed a descriptive analysis approach. Data were collected through a pronunciation test, in which students were asked to read a prepared speech script, then their reading was recorded for analysis. The data were processed through three stages: identifying pronunciation errors, grouping error types, and evaluating the frequency of each vowel pronunciation error. The results of the study showed that students made 120 pronunciation errors from the 16 words tested. The most frequent vowel sounds pronounced incorrectly were found in the words Important (12.5%), Also (11.6%), Enough (10%), Another (9.16%) and Family (8.33%) - In and Read were pronounced correctly by all students. In conclusion, students still encounter difficulties pronouncing English vowels due to their L1.This study is useful to the teaching of English pronunciation by identifying vowel sounds that may need more direct attention and learning for learning English in Indonesia.

Abstract

The research explores the effectiveness of the Engage, Study, Activate (ESA) method in enhancing the writing ability of first- year students at SMA Yapip Sungguminasa, particularly in producing descriptive texts. A pre-experimental design was employed, utilizing pre-tests and post-tests. The population of the study consisted of 110 first-grade students from SMA Yapip Sungguminasa during the 2013/2014 academic year. A purposive sampling technique was employed to select one class (X.A) consisting of 30 students with low writing achievement. The instrument used for data collection was a written test, where students were required to write descriptive texts based on provided images. The same type of test was used for both the pre- test and post-test evaluations. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in students' writing performance, particularly in content and organization. These findings suggest that the ESA method effectively fosters student engagement, linguistic awareness, and active language use, leading to more coherent and complete descriptive writing.
