Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of auditor quality and the audit committee in the lowering cost of debt for the company and whether the private age of company at the time of IPO becomes the moderating variable among of auditor quality, audit committees and the cost of debt. This study uses firm private age as a proxy for capital cycle and existing of lending relationship to view the likely extent of debt dependence prior to IPO. Auditor quality and the audit committee is considered as an effective monitoring activity mechanism to increase confidence of the stakeholder of the company. The population of this study is a company doing an IPO on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2008-2012. The method of selecting the sample using purposive sampling criteria, total sample obtained are 52 companies. The analysis method of this study is multiple regression analysis with the Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA).The result show that the auditor quality significant negative effect on the cost of debt. Private age of firm as moderating variables may affect the relationship of auditor quality and cost of debt. While the audit committee did not significantly affect the cost of debt and private age of firm as moderating variables can not affect the relationship of the audit committee and the cost of debt.

Abstract

This study aims to examine and analyze the effect of the size of the audit committee, audit committee independence, audit committee meeting, Competence Audit Committee Member, Board Size, and Independent Commissioner of the audit report lag on all the companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2010-2011. This study is an empirical study with purposive sampling technique in data collection. Secondary data obtained from the financial annual report of 412 companies listed on the Stock Exchange in 2010-2011. Data analysis was performed by multiple regression. The results of hypothesis testing indicated that audit committee independence, competency audit committee members and board size significantly influence the audit report lag. Furthermore, the size of the committee, audit committee meeting, the Independent Commissioner no significant effect on audit report lag.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to examine the impact of audit quality on the investor’s ability to predict future earnings and to examine investor’s ability to predict future earnings for profitable firms and unprofitable firms. This research is a replication of the study by Hussainey (2009). The population of this research are 414 manufacture companies which is listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange period 2008-2010. Samples were selected by purposive sampling method  and finally obtained  180 manufacture companies  that fulfill the criterias. Data were analyzed using Collins et al. (1994) return-future earnings regression model.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Corporate Financial Performance (CFP) on Islamic Banking in Indonesia in 2003-2011. CSR variable is examined using Islamic Social Reporting (ISR) Index, whereas CFP variable is proxied by Net Profit Margin (NPM), Return on Asset (ROA), Return on Equity (ROE), and Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR). The sample in this study is Sharia Commercial Bank which registered in Bank Indonesia. The sample was selected using purposive sampling method and obtained six bank being sampled. This study used a non parametric statistical Spearman correlation test to analyze the data. The result showed associations between Corporate Social Responsibility and Corporate Financial Performance. This study showed that there is a possitive relationship between CSR and ROE in the next year and there is a negative relationship between CAR and CSR in the next year.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze the effect of company characteristics such as ownership structure, independent nonexecutive director, audit committee independence, external auditor quality, firm size, leverage and industry type on the level of risk disclosure on all nonfinancial companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2011. This study is a replication of the research that has been done by Oliviera et al. (2011). However, control variable which are listing status and accounting standard that were used by Oliviera et al. (2011), are not being used in this research, because the variable is not applied in Indonesia. Financial companies are not used because they have different regulations with nonfinancial companies. This research is an empirical study with purposive sampling techniques in data collection with the following criterias: 1. Non-financial companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2011. 2. Completed annual reports published in 2011. The data obtained from annual report of 328 non-financial companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2011. Data were analyzed by Partial Least Square.The hypothesis in this research are as follows, 1. Concentrated ownership structure affects negatively on the level of risk disclosure, 2. Independent nonexecutive director affect positively on the level of risk disclosure, 3. Independent audit committees affect positively on the level of risk disclosure, 4. Big4 accounting firm engagement affect positively on the level of risk disclosures, 5. Leverage affects positively the level of risk disclosure, 6. Firm size affect positively on the level of risk disclosure, 7. High level of environmental sensitivity affect positively on the level of risk disclosure. The results from the test of hypothesis indicated that the size and quality of the company's external auditors are significantly influenced on the level of risk disclosure. Furthermore, the ownership structure, independent nonexecutive director, audit committee independence, leverage and industry type does not significantly influenced the level of risk disclosure. The result of this study provides information for investor about the risk that company could have, and also useful to give information for decision making.

Abstract

This study aims to provide an overview and empirical evidence on the level of implementation of accrual accounting in government, especially at the work units and examine the various factors that exist in the work units from human factors, organizational factors, and other situational factors thought to have an influence on the level implementation of accrual accounting.Data collection in this study using a questionnaire survey. The questionnaire was delivered to 156 Managers/Kuasa Pengguna Anggaran (KPA) of the government institusion in the region of KPPN Semarang I. A total of 58 questionnaires were returned and 49 questionnaires (31.41%) complete and can be processed. The data collected were processed using multiple linear regression analysis.The results of this study indicate that the implementation of accrual accounting in government is still very low. In particular, the level of implementation of accrual accounting is significantly affected by the financial staff training. However, there are no significant effect of level of education staff, the quality of information technology, consulting support, experience, educational background of the managers and the size of the work units to the level of implementation of accrual accounting.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the association between the magnitude of earnings management and auditor quality. The information asymmetry motivates management to execute manipulate performance with earnings management. Auditor quality use industry specialist auditor and big four auditor. The Modified Jones Model is used to measure discretionary accruals (the proxy for earnings management). The sample used in this research was the secondary data from annual report of non financial companies which listed on Bursa Efek Indonesia in 2009-2011. The sample was taken using the method of purposive sampling, and those meeting the selection criteria were also taken. The sample used counts of 756 companies. The statistic method used was multiplied analysis linear regression with hypothesis testing of statistic t and F test. The results provide evidence that industry specialist auditor significantly influence the earnings management. Nonetheless, big four auditor wasn’t significant influence to the earnings management.

Abstract

This study aim to examine the variables that influence the level of underpricing oninitial public offering. The variables examined include auditor reputation, firm size, firmage, return on equity, and the precentage of offers moderated by market capitalization andtotal liabilities. The research was carried out by multiple regression analysis. Datacollection tools used were observational studies and literature study with purposivesampling method. Sample of 91 companies from a population of 132 companies. Theresearch concluded that first auditor reputation not proven effect on the level ofunderpricing, second firm size not proven effect on the level of underpricing, third firm agenot proven effect on the level of underpricing, fourth return on equity not proven effect onthe level of underpricing, and fifth the precentage of offers not proven effect on the level ofunderpricing.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the effects of firm’s characteristics on Good Corporate Governance (GCG) rating, refers to the study done by Ariff et al (2007) in Malaysia. There are differences between this research and the research done by Ariff et al, such as samples and regression tools used. This research analyzing firm characteristics as determinants of good corporate governance score in Indonesia. The firm’s characteristics are divided into 8 variables: profitability, ownership concentration, firm’s size, leverage, growth of sales, firm’s age, countries of operation, and firm’s valuation. The population of this research is all firms which are listed in Corporate Governance Perception Index (CGPI) in year 2009-2011. Sampling method used in this research is purposive sampling. Based on purposive sampling that has been done, the collected samples are 11 firms. Analysis technique used in this research is multiple linear regression because score based on criterias made by IICG is used to measure the dependent variables.The empirical results show that ownership concentration, firm size, firm’s age, and firm’s valuation have positively significant influenced on assesment of GCG mechanism. High percentage of ownership, increasing ages, Tobins’s Q ratio and high total asset will affect higher CG score. While profitability, leverage, growth of sales, and countries of nation has no significant influenced on GCG rating.

Abstract

Industrial development at the present time has been growing rapidly. Not only the manufacturing industry, services, and banking, but many new industry such as the football industry. In terms of revenue, finance football clubs can be said to be very good. However, many football clubs in European football clubs especially in financial crisis. Unique characteristics of the football industry raises several questions regarding the financial performance of a football club as a whole. This study aims to analyze the main financial components contained in the financial statements of a professional football club, knowing the proper use of financial ratios to measure the financial performance of the football club, and identifying the right industry for the football club. Object of study is the first football club to register his name in the New York Stock Exchange, Manchester United PLC. Results of this study showed that the main components in the financial statements of the football club there are 2, revenue and players’ registration. Manchester United PLC has a pretty good level of profitability, profits increased every year, but liquidity is not good. Manchester United PLC was considered quite solvable. Investment in football clubs is quite profitable, but the risk of debt held pretty big football club.
