Abstract

The case of alleged religious blasphemy involving Isa Zega, a transgender social media influencer who performed Umrah wearing a Shari headscarf and was in the women's section, has sparked a strong reaction from the public. This incident relates to issues of religion, gender identity, and freedom of expression. This research explores how Suara.com and Viva.co.id frame their reporting on this matter using the framing model by Pan and Kosicki on 12 news articles published from November to December 2024. The analysis results show that Suara.com delivers news in a neutral manner and provides space for clarification, while Viva.co.id emphasizes elements of religious violation by quoting religious figures. From the perspective of Islamic journalism, Suara.com is considered to better reflect the principles of journalistic ethics compared to Viva.co.id.

Abstract

The Mental Healthcare Act (MHCA), 2017 marked a paradigm shift in India’s mental health landscape by reframing mental illness through the lens of rights, dignity, and person-centered care. While the Act enshrines psychosocial interventions as an essential component of treatment, implementation remains uneven, hindered by workforce shortages, systemic biomedical bias, financial inaccessibility, and weak ethical oversight. This commentary critically examines the interface between MHCA 2017 and psychosocial care, highlighting gaps in service delivery, the persistence of harmful practices such as conversion therapy, and the neglect of adverse outcomes in psychotherapy. It argues that without structural reforms including integration of the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions Act, 2021, expanded insurance coverage, stronger accountability mechanisms, and recognition of allied professionals psychosocial interventions risk remaining marginalized. The article emphasizes the urgent need for rights-based, culturally sensitive, and ethically sound practices to realize the transformative vision of MHCA 2017. Strengthening psychosocial care is not ancillary but central to building a mental health system grounded in equity, recovery, and human dignity.

Abstract

A study at SDN Singonegaran 1 Kota Kediri explored the role of teachers' interpersonal communication in boosting students' learning motivation. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, researchers interviewed four teachers and conducted observations and documentation. The study was based on Joseph A. DeVito's theory, focusing on five key indicators: openness, empathy, supportiveness, positiveness, and equality. The findings showed that teachers' interpersonal communication is crucial for enhancing student motivation. Teachers employed interactive techniques like ice-breaking, trigger questions, and digital media (e.g., Kahoot!) to create a comfortable learning environment. They also used positive reinforcement like praise and points to reward students. The communication process included building trust, providing clear verbal and nonverbal messages, using supportive media, and giving positive feedback. Additionally, teachers tailored their approach to each student's unique needs. While these strategies were effective, challenges such as student shyness and lack of confidence remained. The study concluded that effective teacher communication significantly improves student motivation and creates a supportive classroom atmosphere. It recommends that teachers receive continuous training to refine their communication skills and overcome these barriers, thereby promoting students' academic and personal growth.

Abstract

This quantitative study investigates the influence of personal branding on Instagram follower loyalty, specifically examining Fadil Jaidi's account (@fadiljaidi) with 13.7 million followers. Using purposive sampling, 278 respondents who met specific criteria (minimum 17 years old, following the account for at least 6 months, and actively engaging with content) participated in this research. Personal branding was measured through four dimensions: authenticity, visibility, distinctiveness, and consistency, while follower loyalty was assessed through behavioral loyalty, attitudinal loyalty, and advocacy loyalty. Data collection utilized online questionnaires with a 4-point Likert scale, analyzed using simple linear regression via SPSS. Results demonstrate a strong positive correlation (r = 0.654) between personal branding and follower loyalty, with the regression equation Y = 12.02 + 0.54X indicating that each unit increase in personal branding results in a 0.538 unit increase in follower loyalty. The coefficient of determination (R² = 0.427) reveals that personal branding explains 42.7% of follower loyalty variance. Consistency emerged as the strongest personal branding dimension (971.25 index value), while attitudinal loyalty scored highest among loyalty dimensions (973.5 index value). These findings provide empirical evidence that authentic, consistent, and distinctive personal branding strategies significantly enhance follower commitment, particularly through family-centered content that creates unique positioning in competitive social media landscapes.

Abstract

This study explores the phenomenon of Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) among Generation Z in their use of Instagram as a social media platform. The problem arises from the increasing tendency of young people to experience anxiety, social pressure, and identity challenges when exposed to constantly updated online content and trending activities. Using a qualitative approach with phenomenological methods, this research examines the subjective experiences of selected informants to capture how FoMO is felt, expressed, and interpreted in daily digital interactions. The analysis is supported by theoretical frameworks such as FoMO theory, Social Identity theory, and the Uses and Gratifications approach. The findings reveal that FoMO manifests in repeated scrolling behavior, impulsive decision-making to join social trends, and the need for social validation, which collectively influence how Gen Z constructs their self-image and social relationships. Instagram’s visual and interactive features were found to intensify these experiences. The study concludes that FoMO is not merely a psychological condition but also a social communication process shaped by identity, recognition, and the pursuit of belonging in digital culture .

Abstract

The development of information technology in the 21st century has brought significant changes in various fields, including education and religion. The 2023 APJII report noted that more than 70% of Indonesian teenagers have internet access through gadgets, indicating that the younger generation lives in a digital era. This development also influences religious-based educational environments, one of which is Pondok Pesantren Sharif Hidayatullah Rejomulyo in Kediri City. This pesantren is categorized as a modern Islamic boarding school with a policy that allows students to bring and use gadgets outside of worship and Qur’anic study times. Such a phenomenon raises questions about the motives and gratifications of students in using gadgets. This study aims to understand the motives and gratifications obtained by students in using gadgets at Pondok Pesantren Sharif Hidayatullah Rejomulyo in Kediri City. The research applies a descriptive qualitative approach using observation, interviews, and documentation methods. The Uses and gratification theory is used as the analytical framework to identify cognitive, affective, personal integration, social integration, and diversion needs. The research informants consist of active students who use gadgets in their daily activities at the pesantren. The findings reveal that students use gadgets to seek academic information and current news, obtain entertainment, communicate with family and friends, express themselves, and relieve boredom. The gratifications gained align with the motives that correspond to the five categories of needs in the Uses and gratification theory.

Abstract

An organization is a collection of individuals united by common goals, where communication plays a crucial role in strengthening relationships among members. Ineffective communication patterns, however, may lead to conflict and weaken organizational sustainability. This study aims to analyze communication patterns, solidarity values, as well as supporting and inhibiting factors in fostering solidarity among the youth of Annisul Muttaqin Mosque, Bedewang Village, Banyuwangi Regency. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation with eight informants consisting of administrators and youth members. Data analysis followed the stages of data collection, reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that youth members apply circle and Y communication patterns, in line with Pace and Faules’ concept of downward, upward, horizontal, cross-channel, and informal communication. These patterns support an open communication system that fosters solidarity, consistent with Durkheim’s organic solidarity theory. The solidarity values identified include support, mutual help, respect, and a sense of belonging. Supporting factors consist of religious, social, cultural, and artistic activities, while inhibiting factors include differences of opinion and the emergence of group division.
