Abstract

Malaria remains a major public health problem and causes outbreaks and re-emerging of malaria in places which previously had been declared to be malaria free in Indonesia. Malaria is very important issue in tourist industry, socio-economic impact and poverty.  There are some risk factors of malaria transmission e.g. physical environment changes including the climate change such as rainfall, temperature, land used, environment deterioration; poverty, mobility of people and economic crisis.  The understanding of knowledge, attitude and practices of the community in malaria and its control are very important for its prevention and control strategy.  This paper presented the study of knowledge, attitude and practices on malaria, prevention its control in year 2008 in Batam area.  There were 248 respondents surveyed from three sub-district, consist of 84 respondents from Nongsa, 89 respondents from Galang sub-district and 75 respondents from Belakang Padang. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected by using structural questionnaire for the community and personal in-dept interview for the community leaders. The results of the study shows that most of the respondents understand and ever heard about malaria (91.9%); nevertheless most of them do not have good attitude in malaria prevention and control (97.6%). There was 82.3% of respondents have being outdoor during the night time, beside there was 39.5% respondents stayed overnight outdoor.  These KAP situation of the community in malaria endemic area will increase the malaria transmission risk.  However, to improve the knowledge, attitude, and practices for prevention and control of malaria,  the program of health promotion should be improved and keep sustainiing.

Abstract

In Indonesia, the incidence of Dengue Hemorrhagic fever (DHF)  is significanly increasede every year. Alathough in 2008 was decreased. Incidence rate (IR) in 2006 is 52.48 to 71.78 in 2007.Untill now,  there is no specific drugs and vaccine for DHF. So DHF eradication very depend on effort the principle vector Aedes aegypti  control. The DHF vector breeds in water containers. Thus the relationship of individual characteristic, population density and condition of drinking container as risk factors of DHF collected in Riskesdas 2007 is useful to be analysed to DHF  cases in Province of DKI Jakarta (excluding Kepulauan Seribu district) and Province of Bali, both of them as the DHF endemic area. The variable is the condition of drinking containers which commonly used in family, easily to achieve clean water, founding factors like gender, age, education, their job, quintile, resident clasification, and population density. The analysis result shown that existence of drinking container in DKI Jakarta and Bali Province, both of opened and closed clean water and drinking container is not significant difference with DHF cases (p=0,486; ? = 5%) to the incidence of DHF . All of independent variable isn?t shown significant difference with DHF cases, except for age group (p=0.014 ; ? =5%) is shown significant difference between age group was associated with the incidence of DHF.

Abstract

The aim of the research was to measure the production of protease enzyme in alkaline and thermophilic of bacteria Bacillus licheniformis. The protease enzyme signed by clear zone arround the bacteria colonies on medium which contain 1% skimmed milk. The activities of protease enzyme treated  by the period of incubation, temperature and pH, which measured by spectrophotometer at ? 280 nm. The results showed that the highest production of protease activity at 2 days incubation was 150,52 U/mL. At temperature 50°C and pH 10 they were 123,34  U/mL and 193,14 U/mL.
