Abstract

This study attempted  to determine the change of  morphological and  physiological traits of fruit palm oil during the fruit development until harvest. Forty eight fruit bunchs which antheses at the same day were selected at random from oil palm trees in the Experimental Station of PT Panca Surya Garden at Kubang Raya, Kampar. The fruit bunches were hand pollinated at 18 April 2015 and each was covered by pollination bag. Starting at 30 days after pollination (DAP), 3 fruits bunches were harvested at 15 day interval until fruits were ready to harvest. The change of morphological and physiological traits were observed  such as fresh weight, dry weight, fruit moisture content, thickness of mesocarp, fruit diameter, fruit volume and fruit color. The data analysis were performed by simple regression assingned day after pollination as independent variable and the traits observed as dependent variables.  The results indicated that change in morphological traits such as mesocarp thickness, fruit volume, fruit diameter occurred in similar pattern. Rapid change of  the value appeared from 30 to 75 DAP, followed by very slow increased from 75 to 150 DAP and finally the  rapid increase from 150 to 180 DAP. The pattern of dry weight and fresh weight change was similar, in which progressive increase was occurred  from 30 to 180 DAP then followed by decreased until 187 DAP. Moisture concentration of the fruit increased slightly from 30 to 45 DAP than decreased progressively from 45 to 187 DAP. Fruit color changed from dark purple to red purple and finally at harvest the color change to yellow red.

Abstract

Production of food crops, especially rice, corn, and soybeans affected by plant pests. This study aims to analyze the performance of productions and pests of food crops in Riau province within the last 5 years. Secondary data including data on production and pest of food crops in the period 2011-2015 was obtained from the relevant institutions. To validation and complete the secondary data done excavation of primary data from some  speakers who are competent. Data were analyzed descriptively, tabulatively and simply to answer the research objectives. The results showed that there has been a decline in production of food crops in Riau Province in the years 2011 - 2015 are quite high, namely rice from 524.788 tonnes to 403.917 tonnes (down 23.0%), corn from 33.197 tonnes to 30.870 tonnes (down 7.0% ), and soybeans from 7.100 tons to 2.145 tons (down 69.8%). The decrease in production primarily due to lower harvested area, with the percentage of each of them: rice 26%, maize 12%, and soybeans 76%. The production decline is also due to pest attack. The type and level of pest attack in the period 2011-2015 fluctuated. In rice plants, there are eight types of pest led to crop failure (puso), namely bird, rat, rice bug, golden apple snail, stem borer, brown spot disease, blast, and bacteria leaf blight then 9 pests cause heavy damage, namely mole cricket, black bug, wild pig, leaf folder, brown planthopper, armyworm, sheath blight disease, and iron toxicity. The total area of rice pest attacks by puso category 161,4 ha and heavily damaged 124,05 ha. In corn, there are three types of pest causing puso, namely wild pig, downy mildew, and armyworm then 5 pests cause heavy damage, namely cob borer, stem borer, leaf rust, leaf blight and brown spot. The total area of corn pest attack with puso category 7,06 ha and heavily damaged 14,5 ha. For soybean plants, no pests have caused puso and only one type of pest causing heavy damage, namely aphids, with area damaged only 0,07 ha.

Abstract

Plant growth regulator play an important role in contributing internal mechanisms of plant growth by interacting with some metabolic process, so that it could be required in enhancing crop production. The objective of this research was to observe the effect of giberelin on seed development, yield potential and seed quality of three soybean varieties. Afield experiment was conducted and arranged in split plot design with giberelin concentration as main plot and soybean varieties as subplot. Gibberellin concentration used consisted of 0 ppm, 125 ppm and 250 ppm. Three Soybean varieties were Grobogan, Wilis and Kaban. Parameter Observe were seed water concentration, seed dry weight, seed growth rate, effective filling period, number of poods per plant, grain weight per plant, grain yield m-2, 100-seed weight, seed protein and oil content. The result of this research indicated that application of Gibberellin did not significantly affect soybean seed development but increased soybean seed yield potential and slightly improved the quality of soybean seeds in 3 varieties tested.

Abstract

Important disease have to be controlled on tomato plant is fusarium wilt. One environmentally friendly control technique is using Trichoderma sp. This study aims to determine the effect of Trichoderma sp. in controlling fusarium wilt on two varieties of tomatoes. The experimental design used was completely randomized design (CRD) two factors, namely the variety and control technique. Varieties factor consist of Tymoti (V1) and Rose (V2). Control technique factor consists of no control (P0), fungicide active ingredient Benomyl (P1), Trichoderma density of 106 spores/ml (P3), and Trichoderma density of 108 spores/ml (P4), so there are eight combinations of treatment and repeated 3 times. Data were analyzed by analysis of variance followed by Duncan test level of 5%. Fusarium sp. shows the characteristics of yellowish-white colonies with a crescent-shaped insulated conidia. Trichoderma sp. shows the characteristics of dark green colonies with spherical spores. The results of in vitro inhibition test showed that Trichoderma sp. abled to inhibit Fusarium sp. nearly 100%. Rose varieties showed disease severity 0% on all control techniques and Tymoti showed disease severity 100% on without control technique factor. Controlling by Trichoderma 106 spores/ml in Tymoti varieties can suppress the disease up to 13.89% and Trichoderma with density 106 spores/ml showed results of 1490 g per plant, weight of 38.98 g per fruit, and fruit production 4460 g.
