Abstract

The aim of the study was  to determine the effect  of organic and inorganic fertilizers combined with mulching on the growth and yield of mustard (Brassica juncea L.). This study used a randomized block design consisted of six treatments.  The study was located in Bulu Pountu jaya, Sigi Biromaru, Central Sulawesi and conducted from March – April 2015. The study results showed that the application of organic fertilizer should be accompanied with the inorganic feertilizer to produce better plant growth.  The total fresh weight of the mustard plants was 173.88 g increasing to 294.97 g when all treatments were applied simultaneously.  Besides, this treatment also resulted in higher plant height,  more leaves and large leaf area size.

Abstract

This research objective was to determine the diversity of Arthropods on the soil surface of Chili (Capsicum annum L.) cropping with different systems in Sigi district. The research conducted from January to April 2015, at Jono Oge village, Sigi Biromaru Sub district, Sigi District and Sunju village, Marawola Sub district, Sigi District. Insect identification was carried out in the Plant Pests and Diseases Laboratory, Agriculture Faculty, Tadulako University, Palu. The research site was determined intentionally (purposive sampling) in  a number of farmers’ Chili cropping where each cropping covering an area of 12 x30 m2.  The arthropod samples were taken using a pitfall trap with a row method. The arthropod observations were performed 8 times starting when the plant aged three weeks. The observations showed the number of insects (2067) on the intercropping at Jono Oge village  is higher than those insects (1451) on the  monoculture at Sunju village. The soil surface arthropods obtained  in Jono Oge village were 21 species and in Sunju village were 17 species. Based on the analysis of diversity index (H), Sunju village H  is higher than Jono Oge village, but the diversity index of both villages is categorized sufficient.

Abstract

This research aim was to determine various soil chemical properties on a variety land uses in Poboya watershed. A survey method was employed through which soil samples were tactically taken.  The distance between one soil sample to another was determined according to the condition of the research area.  Four different types of land uses i.e. forest, bushes, mixed plantation and dryland cultivation were surveyed.  Five sub soil samples were compositely obtained from each land use, thus, there were four composite soil samples were for laboratory analysis.  The analysis included soil pH, organic C, total N, total P, available P, K, cation exchangeable capacity and texture.  The results of the analysis showed that the forest land has better soil chemical characteristics than the other land uses.  The chemical characteristics of the mixed plantation and dryland cultivation are generally were relatively low.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effect of Effective Microorganisms-4 (EM-4) concentrations and its application frequency and their interactions on growth and yield of green mustard plant. The experiment was conducted from November 2014 until January 2015 at Mantikulore Sub District, Palu, at an altitude about ± 50 m above sea level. This research was carried out using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with two factors and three replications. The first factor was the concentration of EM-4 (A) with 3 (three) levels : K1 (0,5 %), K2 (1,0 %) and K3 (1,5 %), and the second factor was the application frequency of EM-4 also with 3 (three) levels : A1 (1 time; 1 week after planting-WAP), A2 (3 times; 1, 3, and 5 WAP) and A3 (5 times; 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 WAP). The experimental data were analyzed using analysis of variance method followed by HSD (Honestly Significant Difference) Test at 5%. The results of the research showed that the application of various concentrations of EM-4 had a significant effect on plant height (cm) at age 4, 5, and 6 WAP, number of leaves at age 5 WAP, root fresh weight (g, and gave a very significant effect to root dry weight (g). The application frequency of EM-4 gave an effect to plant height at age 5 WAP, number of leaves at age 5 and 6 WAP, and root length (cm). Whereas the interaction between both factors only had a significant effect on number of leaves at the age of 5 WAP.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to analyze concentration of N, P, and K in soil, growth and yield of purple eggplant (Solanum Melongena L) applied with chicken manure and mulch in Entisol Tondo. This Research was conducted inTondo of Palu, Central Sulawesi from February - May 2015. This research used a Randomized Block Design with two factors i.e. chicken manure and mulch. The chiken manure treatments consisted of with no manure added (control – K0), 10 t ha-1 (K1 ), 20 t ha-1 (K2), and 30 t ha-1(K3). The mulch treatmenst were with no mulch added (M0) and mulch (M1).  The mulch was applied at 10 t ha-1 covering the whole experimental plot.  There were eight combined  treatments  replicates three times, thus in total there were  24 experimental plots. The results of research indicated that the chicken manure combined with the mulch can improve the concentration of N, P, and K in soil, as well as increase the growth (plant height and leaf number).  The plant production (fruit number, fruit lenght, and fruit diameter).  At the rate of 30 t ha-1, the mulch produced the best results on all observed plant variables.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to mapping the status of total and available potassium of lowland paddy soil in Balinggi Sub District, Parigi Moutong Regency, Central Sulawesi Province.   The determination of locations where soils were sampled used a Global Position System (GPS) tool. The research was conducted from February to March 2015 and the soil samples were analyzed in Soil Science Laboratory of Agriculture Faculty Tadulako University.  The results showed that the status of available potassium was low ranging from 0.15 cmol(+)kg-1 to 0.39 cmol(+)kg-1, whereas that of total potassium was varied from high to low.  The total potassium was found high in an area of 409 ha (24%), moderate in that of 799 ha (46%) and low in that of 513 ha (30%).

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the growth and yield of two cultivars of Banggai (Dioscoreaspp) Yams at different planting space. This study used a Two Factorial Randomized Completely Block Design (RCB).  The first factor was planting space (J) i.e. 100cm x50cm (J1), 100 cm x75cm (J2) and 100cmx100cm (J3). The second factor was the type of Banggai Yam (V1) consisted of Bakutuu (V1) and Baku Boan Memela (V2). The treatments were replicated three times resulting in18experimental units. The growth and yield of both yams were not significantly different under different planting spaces, but shoot number, tuber number and productivity of  Bakutuu were higher than its counterpart.

Abstract

The purpose of the research was to determine the antioxidant activity of beverage made from various weights of cocoa pod husk extracts and to identify panelist responses on sensory characteristics of the beverage. The research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with treatments consisting of 5 g, 10g, 15 g, and 20 g of cocoa pod husk extracts.  The extracts were then concentrated by adding maltodextrin (2 g) and sucrose (1 g).  Highest content of total galat acid fenol (146.57 mg) and ascorbic antioxidant (1535.21 mg) which is equal to the total fenol and antioxidant contained in tea.  Organoleptic test showed that the panelists like the beverage made from the 20 g cocoa pod husk, therefore, this treatment will be used to manufacture the beverage.

Abstract

This research was conducted in Oloboju Village, Sigi Biromaru Sub District of Sigi District. Thirty three farmer respondents were selected from 50 farmers using simple random sampling method while two traders and two retailer respondents were chosen using tracing sampling method.  Thus, the number of respondents was 37 respondents. The results of the analysis showed that the total marketing margin of the shallot obtained from first marketing channel was IDR 25,000 whereas from second marketing channel was IDR 26,000.  The portions of price the farmers obtained were 96.2% and 86.7% from the first and second channels, respectively.  The marketing channels of shallot in Oloboju village were (1) farmers – traders – retailers – consumers, and (2) farmers – retailers – consumers.  The second marketing channel is more efficient
