Abstract

This paper discusses the causes of dissociative identity disorder suffered by the character of Laurie inMark’s novel “All around the Town”by applying a literary psychological approach. The objective of this study is to disclose the causes of disassociative identity disorder in Laurie’s personality. This is a library research as as the whole data were taken from the text of the novel. The research method applied in this study was qualitive. Text method analysis was used to identify the causes of of disassociative identity disorder suffered byLaurie. This study applied literary psychological approach by adopting Dell’s and Putnam’s clinical psychology theories on Disassociative Identity Disorder. The results of the study show that the causes of the disassociative identity disorder in Laurie’s personality are the abusive treatments she suffered during her childhood time when she was kidnapped, the lateness of medical treatment, and the new severe trauma.Keywords: alternative identity, Dissociative identity disorder, psychological approach

Abstract

There are many children’s short stories out there both in print media and e-media. This study proposes a comparison between Indonesian short stories in print media and American short stories in e-media. This research is qualitative and descriptive. The subject of research is eleven short stories, i.e. seven print-media Indonesian short stories and four e-media American short stories. The data collection method used is documentation and the data are analysed by using the Miles and Huberman techniques. The results indicate that the eleven children short stories carry good values that are in accordance with the character teaching, character building, and character shaping. One children’s short story teaches being helpful and caring for the environment and people around us while theothers teach being persistent and not easily giving up despite your failures.There is also a story that teaches being humble and not being arrogant. It is also found that the teaching is not always for the children, it could also be for the adults just like in one of the stories that teaches the adults for being patient in facing and handling the naughty children.Keywords: children short stories, comparative literature, character building

Abstract

Karya sastra merupakan hasil pencerminan kehidupan manusia yang di dalamnya tersirat sikap, tingkah laku, dan pola pikir manusia itu sendiri. Bahannya diambil dari dunia nyata, tetapi diolah oleh imajinasi atau rekaan pengarang. Sebagai cerminan perilaku, pemikiran dan pandangan manusia di alam nyata, maka karya sastra terbentuk dari unsur-unsur yang ada di dalamnya sebagai totalitas pembangun ceritanya. Adapun rangkaian unsur-unsur yang saling berkaitan tersebut dapat diteliti dengan menggunakan struktur naratif untuk mendapatkan runtutan jalan cerita. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Keywords: struktur naratif, alur, penokohan, tokoh.

Abstract

‘Jalur Gula’ culture is one of tourist destinations in Semarang city. The existence of ‘Jalur Gula,’ culture cannot be separated from the role of a person named Oei Tiong Ham, the king of sugar in Southeast Asia. This culture is located in the old area of Semarang city. This area used to be the center of trade and industry during the Dutch colonialization.This culture is expected to give the real contribution to the tourism sector in Semarang city. This study is aimed at describing the potency of ‘Jalur Gula’ cultural tourism in increasing the hotel occupation in Semarang city. To get this data, observation and library research were conducted. The result showed that ‘Jalur Gula’ culture has the high potency in increasing the hotel occupation in Semarang city. Since Semarang city is a part of sugar trade in the world, there are many tourists visiting Semarang city. When the number of tourist increases, it will also increase the hotel occupation in Semarang city. Keywords: cultural tourism, king of sugar, ‘Jalur Gula’ culture, hotel occupation in  Semarang.

Abstract

This study is aimed at knowing the process of developing website media in the the teaching of “Pemantapan Kemampuan Profesional Guru SD” using problem based-learning and blended learning.The subjects of this study are the students taking “Pemantapan Kemampuan Profesional Guru SD” course. The development method used in this study is the one proposed by Hoge, Tondore, and Marelli.  The results showed that the media development application using website is appropriate to be used in the tutorial teaching in the classroom. It is proven by the validation result, that is the appropriateness between the indicator of concept, content, presentation, competence and the tutorial planning and syllabus, and also the tutorial materials of “Pemantapan Kemampuan Profesional” course. There are also positive responds from the students after this website media is implemented. This also motivates the students in joining the tutorial. The tutors are expected to use the interesting teaching and learning model to improve the students’ responds and motivation in joining the tutorial.Keywords: Blended Learning, development , Problem-based learning, Pemantapan Kemampuan Profesional course.

Abstract

Hotel terminology has long been used in English language since the first establishment of Convent Garden hotel in 1774 in Westminfer, London.The following hotel named City Hotel was then found in1794 located in New York City.Hotels were growing rapidly in Europe as well as in America during the 19th and 20th century. Meanwhile in Indonesia, the first hotel with an international standard known as Hotel Indonesia was established on 5 August 1962. However, hotels today mainly recruit new qualified employees with hotel management backgrounds. The graduates of Hotel Management department are provided with the good skills in practicing the hotel terminology during the study. The hotel terminology itself is particularly employed the most in job interviews. This article shows the easiest way of learning by heart and putting into practice the hotel terminology by defining each term in alphabetical order. The hotel terms apply the most to the Front Office department leading to other departments such as Housekeeping, Food & Beverage Services, Food & Beverage Products, Accounting, Sales & Marketing and Safety & Risk. In conclusion, the Front Office department is the main department carrying abundant knowledge about the hotel terminology.Keywords : front office, hotel division ,hospitality language , hotel terminology
