Abstract

The challenges of CSMA/CA as following: first, when the device nodes detect the channel in busy condition, the device nodes have to increase the value of backoff exponent which cause range of blind backoff process also increase. Second, the blind backoff process will cause lower channel utilization and more energy consumptions. This article proposes a scheme to improve IEEE 802.15.4 medium access control, called adjustment delay scheme (ADES). This article also presents a comprehensive Markov chain analysis to predict the probability of successful transmission, network goodput, bandwidth utilization and total network energy consumption. The validity of the model analysis is proven by precisely matching the simulation experiments. ADES performs better than those of other algorithms in term of the probability of successful packet transmission, network goodput, bandwidth utilization as well as energy consumption in the networks.

Abstract

Microarray technology allows the simultaneous monitoring of thousands of genes in parallel. Based on the gene expression measurements, microarray technology have proven powerful in gene expression profiling for discovering new types of diseases and for predicting the type of a disease. Enhancement, Gridding, Segmentation and Intensity extraction are important steps in microarray image analysis. This paper presents a noise removal method in microarray images based on Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD). VMD is a signal processing method which decomposes any input signal into discrete number of sub-signals (called Variational Mode Functions) with each mode chosen to be its band width in spectral domain. First the noisy image is processed using 2-D VMD to produce 2-D VMFs. Then Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) thresholding technique is applied to each VMF for denoising.  The denoised microarray image is reconstructed by the summation of VMFs.  This method is named as 2-D VMD and DWT thresholding method. The proposed method is compared with DWT thresholding and BEMD and DWT thresholding methods. The qualitative and quantitative analysis shows that 2-D VMD and DWT thresholding method produces better noise removal than other two methods.

Abstract

Cloud computing is a large scale distributed computing which provides on demand services for clients. Cloud Clients use web browsers, mobile apps, thin clients, or terminal emulators to request and control their cloud resources at any time and anywhere through the network. As many companies are shifting their data to cloud and as many people are being aware of the advantages of storing data to cloud, there is increasing number of cloud computing infrastructure and large amount of data which lead to the complexity management for cloud providers. We surveyed the state-of-the-art resource management techniques for IaaS (infrastructure as a service) in cloud computing. Then we put forward different major issues in the deployment of the cloud infrastructure in order to avoid poor service delivery in cloud computing.

Abstract

Clinical scales such as Fugl-Meyer Assessment and Motor Assessment Scale are widely used to evaluate stroke patient's motor performance. However, the scoring systems of these assessments provide only rough estimation, making it difficult to objectively quantify impairment and disability or even rehabilitation progress throughout their rehabilitation period. In contrast, robot-based assessments are objective, repeatable, and could potentially reduce the assessment time. However, robot-based assessment scales are not as well established as conventional assessment scale and the correlation to conventional assessment scale is unclear. This paper discusses the important parameters in order to assess the hand function of stroke patients. This knowledge will provide a contribution to the development of a new robot-based assessment device effectively by including the important parameters in the device. The important parameters were included in development of iRest and yielded promising results that illustrate the potential of the important parameters in assessing the hand function of stroke patients.

Abstract

One of new mobile technology is being developed by 3GPP is Long-Term Evolution (LTE). LTE usually used by user because provide high data rate. Many traffic sending over LTE, makes several users didn’t get good Quality of Service (QoS). Traffic diversion is needed to increasing QoS value. It can be done with offloading data method from LTE to Wi-Fi network. This paper using 802.11ah standard to evaluate Wi-Fi network. IEEE 802.11ah have 1000 meters coverage area and efficiency energy mechanism, which is proposed for M2M in 5G techonology. Some research has proven that traffic diversion with offloading can increasing network performance. The contribution of this paper is to evaluate the impact of traffic offload between LTE and IEEE 802.11ah standard. This paper propose two scenarios using increment number of user and increment mobility speed of user to evaluate throughput and delay value before and after the offload process. The simulation will simulate using Network Simulator-3. We can conclude that network performance after offloading is better for every scenario. For increment number of user scenario, throughput value increasing 29.08%, and delay decreasing 8.12%. Scenario with increment mobility speed of user obtain throughput value increasing 37,57%, and delay value decreasing 27.228%.

Abstract

IEEE Std 100-2000 defines corona as a luminous discharge due to ionization of the air surrounding a conductor caused by a voltage gradient exceeding a certain critical value. It occurs when the insulating material begins to ionize or conduct due to voltage stress. Corona brings a lot of damages such as corrosion, loss inoverhead transmission lines and electromagnetic interference. Monitoring of corona may reduce the maintenance and replacement cost of electrical equipment. The motivation of this experiment is to calibrate corona detector antennas in the future. The error obtained will determine the efficiency of the antenna to detect and locate potential coronas in electrical equipment in a substation with switchgears or transformers. The operation bandwidth of the antenna is 320MHz to 1.20GHz making it useful to detect and corona. The measurement method of utilizing delay between signals first peak is effective with average 4.76% error with maximum 10.0% error recorded. This may be used to develop a corona online measuring system in the future.
