Abstract

The depletion of conventional energy sources and global warming has raised worldwide awareness on the usage of renewable energy sources particularly solar photovoltaic (PV). Renewable energy sources are non-polluting sources which can meet energy demands without causing any environmental issues. For standalone PV systems, a low conversion efficiency of the solar panel and high installation cost due to storage elements are the two primary constraints that limit the widespread use of this system. As the size of the system increases, the demand for a highly efficient tracking and charging system is very crucial. Direct charging of battery with PV module will results in loss of capacity or premature battery degradation. Furthermore, most of the available energy generated by the PV module or array will be wasted if proper tracking technique is not employed. As a result, more PV panels need to be installed to provide the same output power capacity. This paper presents selection, design and simulation of maximum power point tracker (MPPT) and battery charge controller for standalone Photovoltaic (PV) system. Contributions are made in several aspects of the whole system, including selection of suitable converter, converter design, system simulation, and MPPT algorithm. The proposed system utilizes direct duty cycle technique thus simplifying its control structure. MPPT algorithm based on scanning approach has been applied by sweeping the duty cycle throughout the I-V curve to ensure continuous tracking of the maximum power irrespective of any environmental circumstances. For energy storage, lead acid battery is employed in this work. MATLAB/Simulink® was utilized for simulation studies. Results show that the propose strategy can track the MPPs and charge the battery effectively.

Abstract

In order to achieve a targeted number of foreign tourist arrivals set by the Indonesian government in 2017, we need to predict the number of foreign tourist arrivals. As a major tourist destination in Indonesia, Bali plays an important role in determining the target. According to the characteristic of the tourist arrivals data, one shows that we need a more flexible forecasting technique. In this case we propose to use a Support Vector Machine (SVM) technique. Furthermore, the effects of noise components have to be filtered. Singular Spectrum Analysis (SSA) plays an important role in filtering such noise. Therefore, the combination of these two methods (SSA-SVM) will be used to predict the number of foreign tourist arrivals to Bali in 2017. The performance of SSA-SVM is evaluated via simulation studies and applied to tourist arrivals data in Bali. As the results, SSA-SVM shows better performances compare to other methods.

Abstract

This paper presents the simple design of a grid-tied single-phase with distributed rooftop photovoltaic (PV) non-uniformly location and ratings. All the inclusion components in the developed scheme are estimated and defined as the inevitability of low voltage (LV) residential network. This developed scheme is purposed for allocating AC and DC load, which are divided into four steps: the sized determination of PV inverter (1-5kW), the selection of PV array, the size determination of battery and the selection of other supporting components. The purposed configuration consists of modeling the system with non-uniform distributions of rooftop PVs, modeling the rooftop PVs based on their injected active and reactive power, and finally the inclusion of battery storage, based on its state of charge (SOC). Due to test the configuration, several cases are built in the MATLAB platform. Simulation results have been generated and analyzed for an unbalanced three-phase residential feeder which is populated with rooftop PVs and battery storage (BS). The simulation results show that the unbalanced reduction due to the coordinate of PVs and BS that provided educated energy storage when the unequal loadings are there, have significant effect toward the anxiety of the distribution network are successfully done.

Abstract

It is well known that sperm motility is the most important parameter in measuring sperm quality. Sperm motility can be measured manually by a medical veterinarian or using Computer Aided Sperm Analysis (CASA) system. Measuring bull sperm motility manually is the most popular method nevertheless it has major drawbacks which are subjective and high variability. CASA gives consistent results, hence it is an expensive system. Therefore, an alternative method is required. In this paper, a method to measure bull sperm motility was proposed, It was using ellipse detection and sperm head direction angle. The video samples were taken using a digital microscope. Compared with the manual assessment by medical veterinarians, the proposed method gave the average absolute margin of 5.16% which surpassed the previous method which gave 10.69%.

Abstract

This study aimed to design an accurate and practical system of leaf area determination using a smartphone. A software application for leaf area computation was developed using Open CV (Open Source Computer Vision) library. Open CV software was tested to estimate the accuracy of leaf area calculation. Leaf area calculations were undertaken using three different image resolutions to compare their accuracy. The results of the software calculations were then compared with the results of the laboratory leaf area meter to identify any errors. The results showed that higher image resolutions improved accuracy by reducing errors. High resolution image gave higher accuracy, however processing speed decreased. Leaf measurement in this project resulted in accuracy range between 92.8% to 99.0%. It was concluded that the Open CV algorithm gave fast and adequate accuracy for leaf area calculation, and that the smartphone mobile application system was practical for field use.

Abstract

In this paper, we presented a possible front surface optical enhancement of Si solar cell by optimizing the Antireflection (AR) and light trapping (LT) schemes. Conventional plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) and in house hot wire chemical vapor deposition (HWCVD) tool was used to deposit Silicon Nitride (SiNX) layer and optimized at 668nm wavelength. This was followed by surface texturing of random pyramids to further enhance the broadband reflectance of the front surface. Broadband reflectance measurement using integrating sphere method showed achieved weighted average reflectance (WAR) value of as low as 1.8% and 1.5%, when 85nm SiNX was deposited on top of random pyramids structure using HWCVD and PECVD methods, respectively.

Abstract

Cattle is the most popular livestock in Indonesia. Assessments of the live bodyweight of cattle can be conducted through weighing or predicting. Weighing is an accurate method, but it is not efficient due to the prices of scales that most traditional farmers cannot afford. Prediction is a more affordable technique however occurrences of error remains high. To deal with this issue this research has created a model predicting the live bodyweight of cattle through Back-Propagation algorithm. There are four morphometric variables examined in this study: (1) body length; (2) withers height; (3) chest girth; and (4) hip width. Based on comparative results with conventional prediction methods, Schoorl Indonesia and Schoorl Denmark, showed that the method offered has a lower error. Rate of error is 60.54% lower than Schoorl Denmark and 53.95% lower than Schoorl Indonesia.

Abstract

This research aimed to develop a method for predicting interaction between chemical compounds contained in herbs and proteins related to particular disease. The algorithm of this method is based on binary local models algorithm, with protein similarity section is omitted. Klekota-Roth fingerprint is used for the compound's representation. In the development process of the method, three similarity functions are compared: Tanimoto, Cosine, and Dice. Youden’s index is used to evaluate optimum threshold value. The result showed that Tanimoto similarity function yielded higher similarity values and higher AUC value than those of the other two functions. Moreover, the optimum threshold value obtained is 0.65. Therefore, Tanimoto similarity function and threshold value 0.65 are selected to be used on the prediction method. The average evaluation accuracy of the developed algorithm is only about 50%. The low accuracy value is allegedly caused by the only use of compound similarity on the prediction method, without including the protein similarity.

Abstract

Formulating animal diet by accounting fluctuating cost, nutrient requirement, balanced amino acids, and maximum composition simultaneously is a difficult and complex task. Manual formulation and Linear Programming encounter difficulty to solve this problem. Furthermore, the complexity of laying hen diet problem is change through ingredient choices. Thus, an advanced technique to enhance formula quality is a vital necessity. This paper proposes the Multi-Swarm Particle Swarm Optimization (MSPSO) to enhance the diversity of particles and prevent premature convergence in PSO. MSPSO work cooperatively and competitively to optimize laying hen diet and produce improved and stable formula than Genetic Algorithm, Hybridization of Adaptive Genetic Algorithm and Simulated Annealing, and Standard Particle Swarm Optimization with less time complexity. In addition, swarm size, iteration, and inertia weight parameters are investigated and show that swarm size of 50 for each sub-swarm, total iteration of 16,000, and inertia weight of 6.0 should be used as a good parameter for MSPSO to optimize laying hen diet.
