Abstract

The automatic testing machine, called by mixed-load tester, has ability to load and test multiple product families in different testing durations simultaneously. However, the high product mixes for each product family undergoes a different process flow. In addition, the capability of the robot inside tester used for loading and unloading a product to each slot makes the capacity planning problem more complicated. It effects low tester utilization. This paper developed simulation models of capacity planning scenarios under demand and testing time uncertainty. These scenarios are built by robust optimization to handle worst case condition. The result shows the proposed solutions gives better tester utilization and improves the decision making process by providing more detailed and precise information about capacity planning under uncertainties that was not available in company`s current method. To the best of our knowledge, this developed model is the first one considering the mixed–load tester under uncertainties.

Abstract

A multi-section coupled-line balun design for an ultra-wideband diode mixer is presented in this paper. The multi-section coupled-line balun was used to interface with the diode mixer in which it can deliver a good impedance matching between the diode mixer and input/output ports. The mixer design operates with a Local Oscillator (LO) power level of 10 dBm, Radio Frequency (RF) power level of -20 dBm and Intermediate Frequency (IF) of 100 MHz with the balun characteristic of 180° phase shift over UWB frequency (3.1 to 10.6 GHz), the mixer design demonstrated a good conversion loss of -8 to -16 dB over the frequency range from 3.1 to 10.6 GHz. Therefore, the proposed multi-section coupled-line balun for application of UWB mixer showed a good isolation between the mixer’s ports.

Abstract

In distributed power system (DPS), the stability performance is always associated with the behaviour of constant power load (CPL). Since DPS large complex system build up from many power electronic converters, the DC bus of the system becomes unstable due to the strenuous action from power converters. When these converters tightly regulated, it behaves as constant power load and exhibit negative incremental input impedance which becomes the main reason in stability degradation of DPS. In this paper, four passive damping network topologies was proposed to reduce the DC bus instability. The best damping performance of the topologies was chosen and analysed using MATLAB/Simulink. The DC bus performances was studied in four cases which are damping behavior due to CPL power level, CPL disconnection, effects of filter and damping capacitor, and effects of filter cut-off frequency. Simulation results obtained shows that the DC bus was successfully stabilized and the resonance damped when passive damper installed. An experimental hardware tests was conducted to verify the proposed damping method and the results were compared with the simulated output waveforms. The analysis results in overshoot, settling time and steady state error of bus voltage shows system improvement with the proposed damper network.

Abstract

9tka is a board game created by Adam Kaluza. The game can be played with 2 up to 4 players, with the goal of conquering as many areas in the board as possible. The aim of this research is to implement the 9tka game into a digital game that can be played on a personal computer. The implementation will include the feature to play against computer players. The rules and game’s play of 9tka is modelled, and then implemented using Java. The Artificial Intelligence (AI) of the computer player is implemented using the MaxN algorithm, which is an extension of the minimax algorithm. Several tests were done to gauge the robustness of the implemented AI. The experiments show that the AI is capable to make a move in time less than 541 milliseconds on average, across all types of players. Moreover, from eight respondents, the average amount of human wins is 2.25 out of 5 matches, across all types of players. This shows that the implemented AI on computer player has a better chance to defeat human opponents.

Abstract

In this paper, we evaluate outage probability (OP) of a cluster-based multi-hop protocol operating on an underlay cognitive radio (CR) mode. The primary network consists of multiple independent transmit/receive pairs, and the primary transmitters seriously cause co-channel interference (CCI) to the secondary receivers. To improve the outage performance for the secondary network under the joint impact of the CCI and hardware imperfection, we employ the best relay selection at each hop. Moreover, the destination is equipped with multiple antennas and uses the selection combining (SC) technique to enhance the reliability of the data transmission at the last hop. For performance evaluation, we first derive an exact formula of OP for the primary network which is used to calculate the transmit power of the secondary transmitters. Next, an exact closed-form expression of the end-to-end OP for the secondary network is derived over Rayleigh fading channels. We then perform Monte-Carlo simulations to validate the derivations. The results present that the CCI caused by the primary operations significantly impacts on the outage performance of the secondary network.

Abstract

In constant V/f control technique it is assume that the stator resistance and leakage inductance drops are negligible, especially at high speed and small load. In other words, the back emf is comparatively large at high speed and hence these voltage drops can be neglected. By maintaining constant V/f, constant Eg/f and hence constant air-gap flux is assumed. This assumption is however invalid at low speeds since a significant voltage drop appears across the stator impedance. The terminal voltage, V no longer approximates  ag. By using MATLAB Simulink, the open-loop constant V/f is simulated. It is shown that the performance of the drive deteriorates at low speeds. The improvement in the performance by applying voltage boost is shown and discussed.
