Abstract

The parametric snake is one of the preferred approaches in feature extraction from images because of their simplicity and efficiency. However the method has also limitations. In this paper an explicit snake that represented using BSpline applied for image segmentation is considered. In this paper, we identify some of these problems and propose efficient solutions to get around them. The proposed method is inspired by classical snake from Kass with some adaption for parametric curve. The paper also proposes new definitions of energy terms in the model to bring the snake performance more robust and efficient for image segmentation. This energy term unify the edge based and region based energy derived from the image data. The main objective of developed work is to develop an automatic method to segment the anatomical organs from medical images which is very hard and tedious to be performed manually. After this segmentation, the anatomical object can be further measured and analyzed to diagnose the anomaly in that organ. The results have shown that the proposed method has been proven qualitatively successful in segmenting different types of medical images.

Abstract

The automatic and real-time license plate detection system can be used as an access control entry of vehicles into the parking area. The problem is how to recognize the vehicles that will go into the parking lot and how to recognize various types of license plates in various light conditions quickly and accurately. In this research, the prototype was developed with a detection system to recognize the vehicles that will enter the parking area, and a license plate recognition system. In the license plate recognition system, the Fourier transform and Hidden Markov model method have proposed to detect location of license plate and as  characters segmentation to recognize Indonesia license plates. The research results have shown that the developed prototipe system has successfully recognized all Indonesia license plates in several of light condition and camera position. The percentage of plate recognition in the real-time experiment is 84.38%, and the average execution time for all recognition process is 5.834 second.

Abstract

Image processing in today’s world grabs massive attentions as it leads to possibilities of broaden application in many fields of high technology. The real challenge is how to improve existing sorting system in the Moduler Processing System (MPS) laboratirium which consists of four integrated stations of distribution, testing, processing and handling with a new image processing feature. Existing sorting method uses a set of inductive, capacitive and optical sensors do differentiate object color. This paper presents a mechatronics color sorting system solution with the application of image processing. Supported by OpenCV, image processing procedure senses the circular objects in an image captured in realtime by a webcam and then extracts color and position information out of it. This information is passed as a sequence of sorting commands to the manipulator (Mitsubishi Movemaster RV-M1) that does pick-and-place mechanism. Extensive testing proves that this color based object sorting system works 100% accurate under ideal condition in term of adequate illumination, circular objects’ shape and color. The circular objects tested for sorting are silver, red and black. For non-ideal condition, such as unspecified color the accuracy reduces to 80%.

Abstract

Sea turtles have existed for millions of years. International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has reported that the Hawksbill Turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) is classified as critically endangered. Turtle excluder device (TED) deployment on shrimpnet fisheries is needed for turtle conservation.TED using sound technique is challenge method in fisheries development. The knowledge on turtle hearing capability is limited. The auditory brainstem response (ABR) assessment is method to determine turtle hearing capability. Turtle hearing assessment is basis to design TED. The objective of this paper is to determine turtle hearing cability by analyze its ABR spectral. The subject is Hawksbill turtle with number 2 turtles ie: 3 and 2 years. The measurement was taken at Pusat Pengurusan Penyu (Turtle Management Centre) Padang Kemunting Masjid Tanah Melaka Malaysia. The results shows that turtle 3 years have peak power frequencies 50.78, 101.6, 152.3, 304.7, 355.5, 457, and 507.8Hz respectively whereas the spectral amplitude is ranging 0.03-32.44% spectral. Turtle 2 years has peak power at 457Hz in whole stimulus frequencies while the spectral amplitude is ranging 0.01-2.5% spectral.

Abstract

The powerful algorithm to detect object movement in development of room monitoring system is very urgent. The commond algorithm needs complex computation. In this research, the prototype of real-time object detection system using simple algorithm is developed, i.e. using the determination of the max noise/pixel value and the tolerance threshold of image accurately, and then the system automatically send a SMS (short message services) to user when the object movement is detected. The developed prototype used a Logitech QuickCam webcam, a Siemens C45 mobile phone and a data cable, and the Borland Delphi 7 with additional components and Serial PortNG Tvideo as system software. The application also includes a database to store the captured images whenever object movement is detected. The test results by varying conditions of light intensities using a 5-watt light bulb, fluorescent lamp 20 and 40 watts indicate that the application is able to automatically detect the presence of moving objects with 100% success rate. The success rate is strongly influenced by the determination of the max noise/pixel value and the tolerance threshold during system configuration. This application is also capable of sending SMS automatically when the system detects a moving object with an average time of 8.35 seconds.

Abstract

The most complete definition for the voltage unbalance is using complex voltage unbalance factor (CVUF) that consists of its magnitude and angle. Unfortunately, the definition did not distinguish between undervoltage and overvoltage unbalance conditions. In this paper, the analysis of the motor is performed using the method of symmetrical component and MATLAB software is used to investigate the performance of induction motor. The simulation results show that the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) definition of the voltage unbalance can be applied to evaluate total copper losses precisely. However, the phase angle of unbalance factor must be included for accurate predicting of peak currents and peak copper losses of the phase windings of the motor. The unbalanced conditions which distinguish between under and over voltage unbalance must also be taken into consideration for assessing all the quatities.

Abstract

Clustering a power system is very useful for the purpose of voltage stability control. However, the methods have developed usually have computational inefficiency. This paper presents a new cluster bus technique using Kohonen neural network for the purpose of forming bus clusters in power systems from the voltage stability viewpoint. This cluster formation will simplify voltage control in power system. With this proposed Kohonen algorithm, a large bus system will be partitioned into a small bus groups that have a coherence V, θ, P and Q. The maximum number of area clusters will be formed need for voltage stability needed. The proposed technique was tested on IEEE 39 bus system by considering two contingency namely load increased and line outage by using voltage collapse analysis. This formation will be compared with the Learning Vector Quantization (LVQ) algorithm. The results showed the proposed technique produces four clusters on contingency load load increased and three clusters online outage contingency on IEEE 39 bus system as shown by the LVQ.

Abstract

This paper presents the dynamic modeling and control of a two-link flexible robot manipulator. A dynamic model of the system is developed using a combined Euler-Lagrange and assumed mode methods. The most problems of a two-link flexible manipulator are vibration of flexible link and unpredictable payload additional. Previous researchers have discussed control methods for this system; few presented the effect of a payload profile. The simulation in this research is performed to assess the dynamic model and system responses at the hub and end-point of both links are presented and analyzed in time domains and show the advantages using radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) controller for solving flexible link vibration, achieve high-precision position tracking, and payload effect robustness. The results achieved by the proposed controller are compared with conventional PID to substantiate and verify the advantages the proposed scheme and its promising potential in control of a two-link flexible manipulator. It is shown that smaller overshoot, quickly steady state response and tracking performance of the proposed controller is good profile and better than PID controllers.
