Abstract

Cognitive radio networks enable a more efficient use of the radioelectric spectrum through dynamic access. Decentralized cognitive radio networks have gained popularity due to their advantages over centralized networks. The purpose of this article is to propose the collaboration between secondary users for cognitive Wi-Fi networks, in the form of two multi-criteria decision-making algorithms known as TOPSIS and VIKOR and assess their performance in terms of the number of failed handoffs. The comparative analysis is established under four different scenarios, according to the service class and the traffic level, within the Wi-Fi frequency band. The results show the performance evaluation obtained through simulations and experimental measurements, where the VIKOR algorithm has a better performance in terms of failed handoffs under different scenarios and collaboration levels.

Abstract

Since cloud computing has an abundance of users, the system has to execute a wide range of tasks. Task scheduler methods that are both robust and efficient while delivering the best outcomes are required. The task volume and runtime in the cloud vary rapidly, making task assessment and resource mapping difficult. Security issues, communication delays, and data loss are substantial barriers to scheduling. Furthermore, optimization techniques can be utilized to reduce load and assign tasks so that the user can finish tasks faster. This paper offers a hybrid job scheduling technique for cloud computing using adaptive particle swarm optimization and ant colony optimization particle swarm optimization-ant colony optimization (adaptive PSO-ACO). After rapidly finding the initial solution via particle swarm optimization, the ant colony optimization approach establishes its first pheromone distribution. The suggested hybrid algorithm is compared to standalone PSO and ACO algorithms. Compared to ACO, the percentage decrease is 7.9%. Hybrid method has the lowest total cost, 55% less compared to PSO. Tasks vary when virtual machines (VMs) are constant and VMs vary when tasks are constant. Parameters like final cost, makespan, fitness value, computation time and weighted time are assessed to evaluate the performance of the hybrid task scheduling algorithm.

Abstract

The reliability of a converter operation strongly affects overall system performance and is vital for uninterrupted power-electronic operation. Harsh operating conditions and environmental stresses degrade device performance and reduce reliability. In particular, a switching device failure may prevent an inductor inductor capacitor (LLC) resonant converter from operating near its resonant frequency while still maintaining stable output voltage, potentially causing loss of operation as well as significant drops in both efficiency and power delivery. To address this challenge, this paper proposes a fault-tolerant topology and control strategy for the LLC converter under open circuit switch (OCF) faults. The proposed method integrates a bypass arm with a secondary-side series configuration; when a primary-side open-circuit fault occurs, the auxiliary switch is activated to bypass the faulty leg, reconfiguring the secondary side into a voltage doubler rectifier (VDR). This reconfiguration enables continuous operation with an output voltage doubled relative to the normal condition, while minimizing performance degradation. Simulation results confirm that, even under a single-switch OCF, the proposed approach maintains an efficiency of 98% with output voltage fluctuation limited to less than 1%. Compared to conventional methods, the proposed strategy greatly enhances reliability and fault tolerance, making it well-suited for high-efficiency power conversion applications.

Abstract

User interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design is fundamental to the stickiness of any application. Food delivery is no exception. With the food delivery business sector on the rise during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, it is necessary for any newcomers in the market to at least match the must-have feature lists of the major players. However, Robinhood, despite having a niche in societal responsibility, is still a food delivery app that is found to lack some of the features that, in the past few months, due to the fierce competition within the food delivery space, moved down from a delighter to a must-have. In this paper, we show, through iterations of qualitative interviews, the proposed solutions consisting of features and future roadmap along with the general context of why each implementation was selected in each sprint. Through all these experiments, we learned not to go against the natural reading pattern of reading from left to right, the z pattern in the visual hierarchy, the users’ familiarity with buttons placement due to loaded external factors, and how introducing too many new features may negatively impact the usability test score.

Abstract

This paper presents a novel graphene-based impedance reconfigurability approach for Ku-band hexagonal patch antennas, demonstrated at both the single-element and 4×4 array levels. Unlike conventional metallic or diode based reconfigurable antennas, frequency tuning is achieved by exploiting the tunable surface conductivity of graphene integrated into E-shaped slots, without altering the antenna geometry or employing active lumped components. Antenna performance is evaluated using full-wave electromagnetic simulations for two graphene states (“on” state and “off” state), representing distinct surface impedance conditions. The single element exhibits dual resonances at 14.81 GHz and 15 GHz, with reflection coefficients of -52.56 dB and -38.18 dB, bandwidths of 783 MHz and 517 MHz, and a peak gain of 7.8 dBi. The 4×4 array exhibits multiple resonances between 12.5–16.8 GHz (off state) and 12.6–17.15 GHz (on state), achieving bandwidths up to 2750 MHz and a maximum gain of 13.64 dBi. These results demonstrate a scalable, geometry-preserving reconfigurable antenna solution for compact Ku-band systems.

Abstract

In this study, to reduce the average symbol error rate, and improve coverage and reliability of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to ground communication systems. In this case, we propose a reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) assisted for UAV to ground communication scheme, where radio frequency (RF) signal generator sends an unmodulated carrier signal from UAVs to the RIS. At reconfigurable intelligent surface, the RIS modulates each signal, and RIS is as a signal generator. We carry out a performance analysis of UAV-to-ground communication systems with RIS-assisted and without RIS for subcarrier quadrature amplitude modulation (SC-QAM) technique. The analytical expressions of average symbol error rare (ASER) and average channel capacity (ACC) is derived. From the results, it is show that with RIS assisted can effectively improve the reliability and coverage of the UAVs to ground communication systems.

Abstract

Electric potential energy or kinetic energy produces electrical energy. The integration of electrical current and potential yields the energy that is deliverable to the end user via electrical circuitries. There are various techniques used to produce electric energy. Typically, electricity is generated by using fossil fuels or natural gas. However, these resources are facing the extinction problem. Thus, another established method to generate electricity is by using water flow pressure in hydroelectric station. This work presents a model of small electrical generator developed based on the theory of pressure yielded by water stream. The development of conventional hydroelectric generator station destroyed the nature environment and caused the death of animal, especially in the water. Therefore, a turbine in a spherical shape that is integrated with microcontroller is suggested in this work with external passage that is attached to the turbine to reduce the catastrophic effect to the aquamarine and nature. The analysis is conducted on the different material while designing the basin, size of basin radius and the structure of model outlet inlet. The results show that the turbine that is designed by using polyvinyl chloride (PVC) with 10 cm radius produced higher voltage at 5.8 V compared to the other types of basin material and radius

Abstract

Faced with new requirements for isolated switching power supplies with high efficiency and power density, planar transformer technology has emerged as a serious alternative to wound components. The work presented in this paper addresses the issue of developing planar transformers in the context of low-power electronics, where volume and weight constraints are paramount. The flat shape of the coils and the interlacing of the windings do not allow for control of magneto-thermal phenomena. Although scientific literature offers numerous simulation tools to aid in the design of such transformers, it must be noted that they do not allow for a rigorous account of these phenomena. In this paper, methods and a geometric and electrical sizing tool in planar technology are used for the design of flyback direct current to direct current (DC/DC) converters. Methods for dimensioning and estimating temperature rise are presented and compared in order to develop calculation tools for design purposes. This study enabled us to observe the distribution of the magnetic field, the role of ferrite, the distribution of currents and voltages in the coils, and the distribution of temperature in our device. It should be noted that conductive and convective heat transfer processes were considered in steady state.

Abstract

This research is based on a significant problem in credit risk analysis in the banking sector caused by class imbalance. We face the problem of the model’s inability to accurately identify risks in the ‘‘Charged Off’’ class. As a solution, we propose a stacked ensemble approach that utilizes synthetic minority over-sampling technique (SMOTE) to balance the class distribution. Experiments were conducted by applying SMOTE to the training data before training the credit model using gradient boosting (XGBoost) and random forest (RF) algorithms in a single ensemble. The results show significant improvements in precision, recall, and F1-score after applying SMOTE on the unbalanced classes. The updated model achieved a striking accuracy rate of 0,97 on resampled training data. This re-search clearly identifies the problem of class imbalance as a major challenge in credit risk analysis. The application of SMOTE in a stacked ensemble was found to be effective in improving model performance, making a valuable contribution to the development of more reliable credit models for better risk management and revenue generation in financial institutions.
