Abstract

A microgrid is a developed form of a distribution system, which is integrated with a set of different types of distributed generation (DG) to supply local demand. In spite of that microgrids have many advantages as they increase reliability, raise efficiency, decrease feeder losses and voltage sag correction. However, there are many technical challenges faced, one of them is the protection of microgrid. Conventional protections have been made for radial distribution systems configuration. Where supplying source has one direction and the power flow is defined. The DG penetration converts the distribution network to a multi sources system causes a bidirectional power flow. Also, the most of DG uses a DC to AC converter which limit the fault current level. Therefore, a suitable protection scheme for microgrid ought to be designed to protect a microgrid from any disturbances may occur for both modes of operation grid-connected and islanded. The purpose of this paper is to summarize the challenges and problems facing microgrid protection. As well as the most strategies to date are presented with a discussion of their basic principles of operation to solve these problems. Finally, some conclusions and suggestions for microgrid protection in the future are presented.

Abstract

Since the concept of coverless information hiding was proposed, it has been greatly developed due to its effectiveness of resisting the steganographic tools. In this paper, a new coverless steganography is presented to hide the secret data in a more secure way and to enhance the robustness against attacks. This method depends on frequency domain. The embedding process consists of several steps. Firstly, the secret data is divided into no overlapping segments. Secondly, a set of images is collected to find appropriate images to be stego images. Thirdly, to build a hash sequence for an image, a powerful hashing algorithm is used. Fourthly, for each image hash sequence, the inverted index structure is created. Fifthly, choose the image which its hash equivalent to the secret data segment. Several tests are done to measure the robustness of the proposed method. The results of the experiments reveal that the proposed strategy is resistant to a variety of image processing attacks such as joint photographic experts group (JPEG) compression, noise, low pass filtering, scaling, rotation and median and mean filter, brightness, and sharpening.

Abstract

The rise of social media has allowed individuals to express themselves freely, increasing the visibility of mental health concerns, including suicidal tendencies. This issue is particularly significant, as suicide is one of the leading causes of death globally. The objective of this study is to develop a model capable of accurately detecting suicide-related textual data using advanced natural language processing techniques. To achieve this, we applied transfer learning models, including bidirectional encoder representations from transformers (BERT), robustly optimized bidirectional encoder representations from transformers (RoBERT), a lite BERT (ALBERT), and decoding-enhanced BERT with disentangled attention (DeBERTa). the dataset used in this research includes 232,074 posts from Reddit, categorized into suicide and non-suicide labels. Preprocessing steps such as removing HTML tags, special characters, and punctuation were applied, followed by stopword removal and lemmatization. The models were trained and evaluated using accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score metrics. Among the models tested, DeBERTa demonstrated superior performance, achieving an accuracy of 98.70% and an F1-score of 98.70%. These findings suggest that transfer learning models, particularly DeBERTa, are effective in identifying suicidal ideation in textual data.

Abstract

In this paper, we have developed a model of the tunneling current through a high- dielectric stack in MOS capacitors with anisotropic masses. The transmittance was numerically calculated by employing a transfer matrix method and including longitudinal-transverse kinetic energy coupling which is represented by an electron phase velocity in the gate. The transmittance was then applied to calculate tunneling currents in TiN/HfSiOxN/SiO2/p-Si MOS capacitors. The calculated results show that as the gate electron velocity increases, the transmittance decreases and therefore the tunneling current reduces. The tunneling current becomes lower as the equivalent oxide thickness (EOT) of HfSiOxN layer increases. When the incident electron passed through the barriers in the normal incident to the interface, the electron tunneling process becomes easier. It was also shown that the tunneling current was independent of the substrate orientation. Moreover, the model could be used in designing high speed MOS devices with low tunneling currents.

Abstract

This paper presents the design and implementation of a forest fire monitoring and warning system based on long range (LoRa) technology, a novel ultra-low power consumption and long-range wireless communication technology for remote sensing applications. The proposed system includes a wireless sensor network that records environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity, wind speed, and carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration in the air, as well as taking infrared photos. The data collected at each sensor node will be transmitted to the gateway via LoRa wireless transmission. Data will be collected, processed, and uploaded to a cloud database at the gateway. An Android smartphone application that allows anyone to easily view the recorded data has been developed. When a fire is detected, the system will sound a siren and send a warning message to the responsible personnel, instructing them to take appropriate action. Experiments in Tram Chim Park, Vietnam, have been conducted to verify and evaluate the operation of the system.

Abstract

Remote sensing is an advanced technique that can be used to detect hydrocarbons on land, and its advantages include rapid and low-cost detection. The detection of hydrocarbons on the surface is essential for environmental monitoring and the purpose of exploration. For oil and gas companies, the ability to locate hydrocarbon spill sites is important information for the success of future exploration wells. This study aimed to determine the quantities of hydrocarbons mixed with the soil as an indicator of its accumulation in the subsurface. In this paper, temperature data obtained from the landsat-8 satellite were used to determine the extent of the oil spill in the area using spatial interpolation and gradient techniques. Kriging interpolation is based on statistical models (i.e. including auto-correlation) geostatistical techniques can produce a forecast surface and also provide accurate forecasts. The results showed that there are 60 sites of thermal anomalies and temperature values are lowest and highest 23.2 oC to 91.11 oC, in the study area. Three different sites were chosen in terms of area and effect. They are located in the northern and southern Rumaila and Zubair fields. The location of the oil spills was determined with high accuracy after identifying the anomalies.

Abstract

High precision speed regulation of the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is a critical challenge in modern industrial applications, including electric vehicles and traction systems. This task is significantly affected by external disturbances, such as variable load torque, as well as physical phenomena often neglected in analytical models, such as magnetic circuit saturation or thermal variations in electrical parameters. In this context, conventional control methods often fail to ensure both dynamic performance and robustness. This paper proposes a multivariable H∞ control strategy based on field-oriented control (FOC) and d/q decoupling to design a robust and high-performance controller. The diagonal multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) model, linking the direct-axis voltage??to the current ??and the quadrature-axis voltage ??to the rotational speed ??, is derived directly from the decoupling principles of FOC, without relying on linearization around an operating point or modeling of parametric uncertainties. The H∞ controller is synthesized using the standard configuration, with carefully selected weighting functions to ensure dynamic performance, closed-loop stability, and effective disturbance rejection. Numerical simulations demonstrate that the proposed controller achieves accurate speed reference tracking, fine current regulation, and fast load disturbance rejection, confirming its effectiveness and robustness. This approach provides an advanced alternative to conventional control methods by fully exploiting the multivariable structure of the system.

Abstract

The increase in signature forgery cases can be attributed to the escape of forged signatures from manual signature verification systems. Researchers have developed various machine learning and deep learning methods to verify the authenticity of signatures, one of which uses convolutional neural networks (CNNs). This research aims to develop a mobile application for handwritten signature verification using CNN architecture by adding a batch normalization technique to its layer. The performance of our proposed method achieved a verification accuracy of 86.36%, with a 0.061 false acceptance rate (FAR), 0.303 false rejection rate (FRR), and 0.182 equal error rate (EER), which is compatible to be embedded in smartphones. However, there is still a need for further development of the CNN model and its integration with mobile applications.
