Abstract

Heat removing from a microelectronic chip packaging has grand effect on performance and durability of the chip. Today’s microchips with high power densities would require efficient methods of cooling. Recently, vertical alignment CNTs, due to their superior thermal, electrical and mechanical properties, was suggested as an effective micro cooler on the level of modern electronics demands. In this paper, the cooling performance of the CNT fin structures is studied numerically. Flow of air was considered as the working fluid flow. CFD simulations have been carried out for a series of CNT micro-fin cooling architectures based on one and two dimensional fin array models. The modeling results indicate that fluid speed is the key factor in heat transfer capacity of the device. Also, the results of 2D carbon nanotube fin array model show more precise and greater thermal performance than that of 1D model. Finally, the examination of pressure drop between inlet and outlet of the cooling device is presented as an important factor which could limit the fluid speed and fin height effect on heat sink performance also investigated.

Abstract

In this paper, a new model for adaptive e-learning based on learner's styles is presented. In the previous work, the dimensions of learner's styles given by Felder-Silverman did not consider some important issues of the learner himself. Here, new learner's parameters such as his social environment, health conditions, psychological and economical states are taken into account. Such parameters greatly affect the ability of student to learn and understand. Therefore, in order to perfectly recognize the ability of the student to be interactive in the leaning environment and accept information, new learner's styles are added to the dimensions of Felder-Silverman learning style model and our previous work [24]. The new proposed model is applied for logic gates and functions used in data encoding and computer networks. Such model presents suitable courses for each student in a dynamic and adaptive manner using existing database and workflow technologies. Furthermore, it is powerful, user friendly and easy to interpret. Moreover, it suggests a learning strategy and appropriate electronic media that match the learner’s preference.

Abstract

The Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem (CVRP) is an NP-Hard problem, which means it is impossible to find a polynomial time solution for it. So researchers try to reach a near optimum solution by using meta-heuristic algorithms. The aim of CVRP is to find optimum route for every vehicle and a sequence of customers, that vehicle serve. This paper proposes a method on how PSO is adjusted for a discrete space problem like CVRP. The process of tweaking solutions is described in detail. At last for evaluation of proposed approach and show the effectiveness of it, the result of running proposed approach over benchmarking data set of capacitated vehicle routing problem is illustrated.

Abstract

This paper presents a new control scheme for grid and rotor side for doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) using model based predictive control. The control strategy minimizes quality functions, which represent the desired behavior of the converter. The technique developed uses predictive direct power control to control the rotor and grid side converter. The main advantages of this method are no need of linear controllers, coordinates transformations or modulators for converter and inverter. Simulation results demonstrate robust, precise, and fast dynamic behavior of system.

Abstract

Fuel cell is one of the promising technologies for distributed generation. For designing high efficiency fuel cell power systems, a suitable DC-DC converter is required. Among the various topologies, interleaved converters using switched capacitor are considered as a better solution for fuel cell systems due to high conversion efficiency. The objective of the paper is to design and implement a high gain interleaved converter using switched capacitors for fuel cell systems. In the proposed interleaved converter, the front end inductors are magnetically cross-coupled to improve the electrical performance and reduce the weight and size. Also, switched capacitors are used to improve the voltage gain of the converter. The proposed converter has been performed. Simulation study of interleaved converter using switched capacitors interfaced with fuel cells has been studied using Matlab/Simulink. A prototype has been developed to verify the simulation results.

Abstract

Wind energy has become one of the most important and promising sources of renewable energy, which demands additional transmission capacity and better means of maintaining system reliability. The evolution of technology related to wind systems industry leaded to the development of a generation of variable speed wind turbines that present many advantages compared to the fixed speed wind turbines. These wind energy conversion systems are connected to the grid through Voltage Source Converters (VSC) to make variable speed operation possible. The studied system here is a variable speed wind generation system based on Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG). The rotor side converter (RSC) usually provides active and reactive power control of the machine while the grid-side converter (GSC) keeps the voltage of the DC-link constant. The additional freedom of reactive power generation by the GSC is usually not used due to the fact that it is more preferable to do so using the RSC. However, within the available current capacity the GSC can be controlled to participate in reactive power generation in steady state as well as during low voltage periods. The GSC can supply the required reactive current very quickly while the RSC passes the current through the machine resulting in a delay. Both converters can be temporarily overloaded, so the DFIG is able to provide a considerable contribution to grid voltage support during short circuit periods. This report deals with the introduction of DFIG,AC/DC/AC converter control and finally the SIMULINK/MATLAB simulation for isolated Induction generator as well as for grid connected Doubly Fed Induction Generator and corresponding results and waveforms are displayed.

Abstract

A rectangular microstrip patch antenna along with a SSRR based “Double H” shaped metamaterial is proposed and analyzed at a height of 3.2mm from the ground plane. This work is mainly focused on increasing the potential parameters of microstrip patch antennas. The patch antenna along with the proposed metamaterial structure is designed to resonate at 1.84GHz. The impedance bandwidth of the patch antenna along with the proposed metamaterial structure is improved by 12.9MHz and return loss is reduced by 9.89dB. All the simulation work is done by using CST-MWS Software. Double-Negative properties (Negative Permeability and Permittivity) of the proposed metamaterial structure have also been verified using Nicolson-Ross-Weir method (NRW).

Abstract

In this paper, we have proposed a new design of interleaver based on S-random and block interleaver. The characteristics of both block and S-random interleaver are used by this proposed interleaver.  There is a large influence of free distance in turbo codes due to interleaving as it lowers the error floor. The free distance of turbo codes can be increased by designing interleaver with high spread. In this case, the overall spreading factor is increased significantly for smaller length frames also. The simulations results are compared with full S-random interleavers. The bit error rate performance of proposed interleaver for Turbo codes is much better than full s-random interleaver at the cost of small delay.

Abstract

Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM’s) are used in many applications that require rapid torque response and high – performance operation. New developed materials such as magnetic materials, conducting materials and insulating materials as well as several new applications have greatly contributed to development of small and special purpose machines. Using such materials the size of the motor would considerably reduce and high performance motors can be built. Due to several new applications these motors are quite popular and use in a developing country such as India for Automotive application.In a permanent magnet synchronous motor, the dc field winding of the rotor is replaced by a permanent magnet. The advantages are elimination of field copper loss, higher power density, lower rotor inertia and more robust construction of the rotor. The demerits are loss of flexibility of field flux control and possible demagnetization effect. The PMSM has higher efficiency than an induction motor, but generally its cost is higher, which makes the life cycle cost of the drive somewhat lower. PMSM particularly at low power range are widely used in industry. Recently, the interest in their application is growing, particularly up to 100 KW, only reluctance motor are simpler in construction and in assembly procedure then PMSM, but reluctance motor generally developed less torque per unit of current and per unit of weight. Therefore, on a basis of power output per unit weight (and general, per unit volume) the PMSM is superior to all other brushless synchronous motor especially with the commercial feasibility of rare earth magnets.
