Abstract

A new MOS device called Dual-Control Gate Floating Gate Transistor (DCG-FGT) is used as a building block in analog design. This device offers new approaches in circuit design and allows developing new functionalities through two operating modes: Threshold Voltage Adjustable Mode, where the DCG-FGT behaves like a MOS transistor with an electrically adjustable threshold voltage. Mixer Signal Mode where the DCG-FGT can mix two independent signals on its floating gate. This device is developed to be fully compliant with CMOS Non Volatile Memory (NVM) process. An electrical model of the DCG-FGT has been implemented in an electrical simulator to be available for analog design. A DCG-FGT based ring oscillator is studied in this paper.

Abstract

Matlab/Simulink is known in a large number of fields as a powerful and modern simulation tool. In the field of building and HVAC simulation its use is also increasing. However, it is still believed to be a tool for small applications due to its graphical structure and not to fit well for the simulation of multi-zone buildings. This paper presents the development of a new multi-zone building model for Matlab/Simulink platform.

Abstract

Energy scenario in India is changing with a greater pace. Growth rate of villages has increased, likewise their energy demand. With the awareness of the decreasing natural resources, non conventional energy resources are gaining lots of interest in sparsely separated areas. The rural areas of India are having the huge scarcity of energy because of limited energy resources and Grid connectivity is not feasible due to economic factors and geographical situations. So we require to establish the off grid system for the benefit of the mass. Off-grid System’s commissioning and operation done as indigenous unit, and free from grid related problems like frequency and voltage regulations and they provides flexible operation because their emphasis is on extraction of energy and conversion into useful work. This paper discusses the potential use of off-grid energy technologies as an alternative for grid extension. Off-grid Energy systems provide the solutions to the basic energy needs in the rural areas of India. These indigenously build plants are not connected to any electrical utility and can be connected with the micro grid for the better reliable operation. Due to small size their demand and load management would be easy. Off-grid system utilizes the solar thermal radiation, wind energy, geothermal energy, tidal wave, Biomass etc. There is numerous numbers of applications where we can use this energy and decrease the dependence on conventional grid.

Abstract

This paper presents an optimization approach for criteria setting of Renewable Distributed Generation (DG) in the Green Building Rating System (GBRS). In this study, the total line loss reduction is analyzed and set as the main objective function in the optimization process which then a reassessment of existing criteria setting for renewable energy (RE) is proposed towards lower loss outcome. Solar photovoltaic (PV)-type DG unit (PV-DG) is identified as the type of DG used in this paper. The proposed PV-DG optimization will improve the sustainable energy performance of the green building by total line losses reduction within accepted lower losses region using Artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm. The distribution network uses bus and line data setup from selected one of each three levels of Malaysian public hospital. MATLAB simulation result shows that the PV-DG expanding capacity towards optimal scale and location provides a better outcome in minimizing total line losses within an appropriate voltage profile as compared to the current setting of PV-DG imposed in selected GBRS. Thus, reassessment of RE parameter setting and the proposed five rankings with new PV-DG setting for public hospital provides technical justification and give the best option to the green building developer for more effective RE integration.

Abstract

As the main testbed platform of Artificial Intelligence, the robot plays an essential role in creating an environment for industrial revolution 4.0. According to their bases, the robot can be categorized into a fixed based robot and a mobile robot. Current robotics research direction is interesting since people strive to create a mobile robot able to move in the land, water, and air. This paper presents development of a quadruped mobile robot and its movement system using geometric-based inverse kinematics. The study is related to the movement of a four-legged (quadruped) mobile robot with three Degrees of Freedom (3 DOF) for each leg. Because it has four legs, the movement of the robot can only be done through coordinating the movements of each leg. In this study, the trot gait pattern method is proposed to coordinate the movement of the robot's legs. The end-effector position of each leg is generated by a simple trajectory generator with half rectified sine wave pattern. Furthermore, to move each robot's leg, it is proposed to use geometric-based inverse kinematic. The experimental results showed that the proposed method succeeded in moving the mobile robot with precision. Movement errors in the translation direction are 1.83% with the average pose error of 1.33 degrees, means the mobile robot has good walking stability.

Abstract

Human Computer Interaction (HCI) plays an important role in connecting humans and computers. Many studies conducted to find better alternatives to improve communication between humans and computers. Various frameworks, catalogue and models revised to complement the lack of existing ideas. The growing technology is increasingly being used by not only adults but also children. However, many applications developed do not fully emphasize the use of HCI suitable for children. Thus, Children Computer Interaction (CCI) created to meet the specific needs of children. Yet, there are still many CCI weaknesses being improved to overcome various problems from time to time. One of the ideas presented is through gamification, which is fun and enjoyable in accordance with the nature of the children. Still, the use of gamification is not as simple as adding some game elements into children's apps, but wider to ensure success in achieving the objectives of the developed application. One way that matter is through the use of user-centered design-persona model. So, this paper reviewed the use of current HCI/CCI, gamification and modified the previously proposed design principles in HCI for children into interview questions for data collection which will be analyzed later to create persona model for future work.

Abstract

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is one of the leading cause of death contributed by other illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, lupus, anemia or weak bones that lead to bone fractures. Early prediction of CKD is important in order to contain the disesase. However, instead of predicting the severity of CKD, the objective of this paper is to predict the diagnosis of CKD based on the symptoms or attributes observed in a particular case, whether the stage is acute or chronic. To achieve this, a classification model is proposed to label stage of severity for kidney diseases patients. The experiments then investigated the performance of the proposed classification model based on eight supervised classification algorithms, which are ZeroR, Rule Induction, Support Vector Machine, Naïve Bayes, Decision Tree, Decision Stump, k-Nearest Neighbour, and Classification via Regression. The performance of the all classifiers is evaluated based on accuracy, precision, and recall. The results showed that the regression classifier perform best in the kidney diagnostic procedure.

Abstract

This paper presents a fully-integrated on chip battery-less power management system through energy harvesting circuit developed in a 130nm CMOS process. A 30mV input voltage from a TEG is able to be boosted by the proposed Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (CMOS) voltage booster and a dynamic closed loop power management to a regulated 1.2V. Waste body heat is harvested through Thermoelectric energy harvesting to power up low power devices such as Wireless Body Area Network. A significant finding where 1 Degree Celsius thermal difference produces a minimum 30mV is able to be boosted to 1.2V. Discontinuous Conduction Mode (DCM) digital control oscillator is the key component for the gate control of the proposed voltage booster. Radio Frequency (RF) rectifier is utilized to act as a start-up mechanism for voltage booster and power up the low voltage closed loop power management circuit. The digitally control oscillator and comparator are able to operate at low voltage 600mV which are powered up by a RF rectifier, and thus to kick-start the voltage booster.

Abstract

The main challenge in MOSFET minituarization is to form an ultra-shallow source/drain (S/D) junction with high doping concentration gradient, which requires an intricate S/D and channel engineering. Junctionless MOSFET configuration is an alternative solution for this issue as the junction and doping gradients is totally eliminated. A process simulation has been developed to investigate the impact of junctionless configuration on the double-gate vertical MOSFET. The result proves that the performance of junctionless double-gate vertical MOSFETs (JLDGVM) are superior to the conventional junctioned double-gate vertical MOSFETs (JDGVM). The results reveal that the drain current (ID) of the n-JLVDGM and p-JLVDGM could be tremendously enhanced by 57% and 60% respectively as the junctionless configuration was applied to the double-gate vertical MOSFET. In addition, junctionless devices also exhibit larger ION/IOFF ratio and smaller subthreshold slope compared to the junction devices, implying that the junctionless devices have better power consumption and faster switching capability.

Abstract

Obesity among children is increasing alarmingly. Therefore it is crucial to instill the awareness about the danger of being obese to the children. To instill the awareness is a challenge. A good approach is required for the message to be accepted and conceptualized by the children. Serious game has been an important mechanism to assist the achievement of many serious purposes other than for entertainment and enjoyment. This paper proposes the implementation of content-based recommendation technique in serious game for obesity awareness among children. Several recommendation techniques for awareness had been studied and the content-based recommendation technique is found to be suitable to be implemented in games. The game was developed according to game development approach and fulfilled the game characteristics. For this preliminary study, 10 children participated in the experiment to determine the effectiveness of the game. The participants were given a pre-and post test to answer before and after playing the game. The result of the test shows that participants achieved the obesity awareness after playing the game. The content-based recommendation technique is applicable to be adopted in serious games to instill awareness in the players.
