Abstract

DG sources have been introduced as one of the most widely used and effective methods among various methods providing losses reduction in power systems. In this paper, the artificial bee colony algorithm has been employed with the aim of determining location and capacity of distributed generations (DGs) and capacitor banks (CBs) in distribution systems. The proposed objective function includes power losses and ENS reliability index, which is used by deploying weight coefficients as objective function in the algorithms. Accordingly, the standard 37-bus networks have been used for studies. The simulation results demonstrate that the artificial bee colony algorithm is more effective in all sections and has higher capability in reducing losses and improving reliability as well.

Abstract

Improved multi-cluster overlapping k-means extension (IMCOKE) uses median absolute deviation (MAD) in detecting outliers in datasets makes the algorithm more effective with regards to overlapping clustering. Nevertheless, analysis of the applied MAD positioning was not considered. In this paper, the incorporation of MAD used to detect outliers in the datasets was analyzed to determine the appropriate position in identifying the outlier before applying it in the clustering application. And the assumption of the study was the size of the cluster and cluster that are close to each other can led to a higher runtime performance in terms of overlapping clusters. Therefore, additional parameters such as radius of clusters and distance between clusters are added measurements in the algorithm procedures. Evaluation was done through experimentations using synthetic and real datasets. The performance of the eHMCOKE was evaluated via F1-measure criterion, speed and percentage of improvement. Evaluation results revealed that the eHMCOKE takes less time to discover overlap clusters with an improvement rate of 22% and achieved the best performance of 91.5% accuracy rate via F1-measure in identifying overlapping clusters over the IMCOKE algorithm. These results proved that the eHMCOKE significantly outruns the IMCOKE algorithm on mosts of the test conducted.

Abstract

This paper shows the attempt to increase the performance of triple-junction hydrogenated silicon solar cells with structure nc-Si:H/a-Si:H/a-SiGe:H. The wxAMPS software was used to simulate and optimize the design. In an attempt to increase the performance, an a-SiC:H layer on the p-layer was replaced with an a-Si:H layer and an a-SiGe layer was replaced with a step graded Si1-xGex layer. Then, to achieve the best performing device, we optimized the concentration of germanium and thickness of the step graded Si1-xGex layer. The result shows that the optimum concentration of germanium in the p-i upper layer and i-n lower layer are 0.86 and 0.90, respectively and the optimum thicknesses are 10 nm and 230 nm, respectively. The optimized device performed with an efficiency of 19.08%, adding 3 more percent of efficiency from the original design. Moreover, there is a significant possibility of increasing the efficiency of a triple-junction solar cell by modifying it into a step graded Si1-xGex layer.

Abstract

Voltage regulator modules (VRM) need to have low output voltage ripple and tight efficiency to power advanced microprocessors. This paper explains a phase shedding technique to enhance efficiency and its impact on output voltage ripple. In this study, analysis was done on a 4-phase buck converter which is having an input voltage of 45-65 V and delivers an output of 9 V, 12A with a switching frequency of 200Khz. The phase shedding control scheme is suitable for applications such as power sources for programmable logic controllers, which is a part of SCADA systems, which requires a low voltage and high current power supply. Working of a multiphase buck converter with phase shedding is modelled and verified using Matlab/Simulink software. The simulation results show the effect of the phase shedding technique on efficiency in varying load conditions and the effect of an increase of the voltage ripple at the output.

Abstract

Gaussian mixture model-universal background model (GMM UBM) supervectors are used to identify spoken Indian languages. The supervectors are calculated from short-time MFCC, its first and sec derivatives. The UBM builds a generalized Indian language model, and mean adaptation transforms it to a duration normalized language-specific GMM. Multi-class support vector machine and artificial neural network classifiers are used to identify language labels from the supervectors. Experimental evaluations are performed using 30 sec speech utterances from nine Indian languages comprised five Indo-Aryan and four Dravidian languages, extracted from all India radio broadcast news data-set. Eight smaller duration data-sets were manually derived to study the effect of training and test duration mismatch. In mismatch conditions, identification accuracy decreases with a decrease in test and train utterance duration. Investigations showed that the 32-mixture model with ANN classifier has optimal performance.

Abstract

Search and rescue operation is performed to save human life, for example during natural disasters, unfortunate incidents on the land, in the deepwater, or lakes. There were incidents happened to the search and rescue crew during the operation although they were well trained. A new method using robotic technology is important to reduce the crew's risk during operations. This research proposed a development of an autonomous surface vessel for search and rescue operations for deepwater applications. The proposed autonomous surface vessel is equipped with a global positioning system (GPS) and underwater sensor to search for the victims, black box, debris, or other evidence on the surface and underwater. The vessel was designed with monitoring and control via radio frequency wireless communication. The autonomous surface vessel prototype was developed and tested successfully with the telemetry at the ground station. The ground station acts as the control centre of the overall system. Results showed the vessel successfully operated autonomously. The operator at the ground station was able to monitor the sensor data and control the vessel's manoeuvre according to the created path. The telemetry coverage to monitor the water surroundings and control the vessel's manoeuvre was around 100 meters.

Abstract

A downlink of small-cell network is studied in this paper studies in term of outage performance. We benefit by design of multiple antennas at the base station and fullduplex transmission mode. The scenario of multiple surrounded small-cell networks is considered to look the impact of interference. We derive the closed-form expression of outage probability to show performance of mobile user. We investigate target rate is main factor affecting to outage performance. According to the considered system, simulation results indicate reasonable value of outage probability and throughput as well. Finally, Monte-Carlo simulation method is deployed to determine exactness of main results found in this article. Finally, the considered system can exhibit improved performance if controlling interference term.

Abstract

In this research, the SiO2 nano-particles (NPs) usage in enhancing optical performances of InGaN/GaN-based white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) with remote phosphor structure. The research subject shows better lighting capacity than the white LEDs devices without the space between the layers. The adjustment in development process resulted in enhancements of internal quantum efficiency (IQE) and light extraction efficiency (LEE) that lead to 13.5% luminous efficacy improvement. From the experiments, it can be concluded that the LEE is affected by the trapped light and enhancing the light output with SiO2 scattering properties reduce the amount of trapped light. These results confirm that SiO2 nano-particles is effective in enhancing the optical performance of WLEDs and can be considered for production of higher quality devices.

Abstract

Class imbalance and overlapping on multi-class can reduce the performance and accuracy of the classification. Noise must also be considered because it can reduce the performance of classification. With a resampling algorithm and feature selection, this paper proposes a method for improving the performance of hybrid approach redefinition-multi class (HAR-MI). Resampling algorithm can overcome the problem of noise but cannot handle overlapping well. Feature selection is good at dealing with overlapping but can experience a decrease in quality if there is a noise. The HAR-MI approach is a way to deal with multi-class imbalance issues, but it has some drawbacks when dealing with overlapping. The contribution of this paper is to suggest a new approach for dealing with class imbalance, overlapping, and noise in multi-class. This is accomplished by employing minimizing overlapping selection (MOSS) as an ensemble learning algorithm and a preprocessing technique in HAR-MI, as well as employing multi-class combination cleaning and resampling (MC-CCR) as a resampling algorithm at the processing stage. When subjected to overlapping and classifier performance, it is discovered that the proposed method produces good results, as evidenced by higher augmented r-value, class average accuracy, class balance accuracy, multi class g-mean, and confusion entropy.

Abstract

Recently robots have gained great attention due to their ability to operate in dynamic and complex environments with moving obstacles. The path planning of a moving robot in a dynamic environment is to find the shortest and safe possible path from the starting point towards the desired target point. A dynamic environment is a robot's environment that consists of some static and moving obstacles. Therefore, this problem can be considered as an optimization problem and thus it is solved via optimization algorithms. In this paper, three approaches for determining the optimal pathway of a robot in a dynamic environment were proposed. These approaches are; the particle swarming optimization (PSO), ant colony optimization (ACO), and hybrid PSO and ACO. These used to carry out the path planning tasks effectively. A set of certain constraints must be met simultaneously to achieve the goals; the shortest path, the least time, and free from collisions. The results are calculated for the two algorithms separately and then that of the hybrid algorithm is calculated. The effectiveness and superiority of the hybrid algorithm were verified on both PSO and ACO algorithms.
