Abstract

Integrated wheelchair controlled by human brainwave using a brain-computer interface (BCI) system was designed to help disabled people. The invention aims to improve the development of integrated wheelchair using a BCI system, depending on the ability individual brain attention level. An electroencephalography (EEG) device called mindwave mobile plus (MW+) has been employed to obtain the attention value for wheelchair movement, eye blink to change the mode of the wheelchair to move forward (F), to the right (R), backward (B) and to the left (L). Stop mode (S) is selected when doing eyebrow movement as the signal quality value of 26 or 51 is produced. The development of the wheelchair controlled by human brainwave using a BCI system for helping a paralyzed patient shows the efficiency of the brainwave integrated wheelchair and improved using human attention value, eye blink detection and eyebrow movement. Also, analysis of the human attention value in different gender and age category also have been done to improve the accuracy of the brainwave integrated wheelchair. The threshold value for male children is 60, male teenager (70), male adult (40) while for female children is 50, female teenager (50) and female adult (30).

Reasonable effort should be made to remove all past references to this paper.The presenting author of this paper has the option to appeal this decision by contacting beei@iaescore.com.-----------------------------------------------------------------------The aim of this paper is to conduct a mutual comparison of switching energy losses in cascade gallium nitride (GaN) and silicon "super junction" MOSFET” transistor, in both cases designed for a maximum operating voltage of (650 V). For the analysis of switching characteristics of transistors used double pulse test method by using detailed SPICE simulation model. Data on transient on and off processes were generated using the “LTspice” simulation package in a wide range of drain currents with two different gate resistance values of the tested transistors. The total energy losses in the GaN have been simulated during one transistor at (on and off cycle). The obtained results indicate that the superior switching characteristics of GaN devices for a drain current of (30 A) is five to eight times less than the switching characteristics of silicon “MOSFET” transistor when compared to silicon components, especially during operation of transistors with high drain currents.

Abstract

While the remote phosphor structure is not an appropriate solution for WLED color uniformity, it is more advantageous for the luminous output of WLED than the conformal phosphor or in-cup phosphor structure. Acknowledging the ability of the remote phosphor structure, many studies have been carried out to surmount the color quality disadvantage of this structure. A dual-layer remote phosphor configuration is proposed in this research paper to acquire better color quality for WLEDs through heightening the color rendering index (CRI) and the color quality scale (CQS). The color temperature of the WLED packages this study is 8500 K. By inserting a layer of green CaSO4:Ce3+,Mn2+ or red LiLaO2:Eu3+ phosphor on the yellow YAG:Ce3+ phosphor layer, the phosphor structure configuration can be constructed. Then, to get the best color quality, the concentration of added phosphor LiLaO2:Eu3+ would be changed. The findings showed the rise of CRI and CQS along with the LiLaO2:Eu3+, which implies the influence of LiLaO2:Eu3+ to the growth of red light components within WLEDs packages. The greater the concentration of LiLaO2:Eu3+ is, the more the CRI and CQS increase. Meanwhile, the luminous flux gains from the green phosphor CaSO4:Ce3+,Mn2+. Nevertheless, the luminous flux and color quality would decrease if the concentrations of both red LiLaO2:Eu3+ and green CaSO4:Ce3+,Mn2+ phosphors reach a certain corresponding level. Centered on the Mie-scattering theory and the law of Lambert-Beer, this result is illustrated. The findings in this research are vital references for manufacturing WLEDs with higher white light performance.

Abstract

Internet-of-Things or IoT technology becomes essential in everyday lives. The risk of security and privacy towards IoT devices, especially smarthomes IoT gateway device, becoming apparent as IoT technology progressed. The need for affordable, secure smarthome gateway device or router that smarthome user prefer. The problem of low-performance smarthome gateways was running security programs on top of smarthome gateway programs. This problem motivates the researcher designing a secure and efficient smarthome gateway using Raspberry Pi hardware as an affordable smarthome gateway device and able to run both smarthome gateways and security programs. In this research, researchers implemented snort as intrusion detection system (IDS), openHab as IoT gateway applications, and well-known encryption algorithms for file encryption in Raspberry PI 3B+ model. The researcher evaluated Snort capability on network attacks and compared each of the well-known encryption algorithm efficiency. From the result, we found Rasefiberry customized snort configuration for Raspberry pi 60 percent of the simulated network attacks. Twofish encryption algorithms were found to have best encryption time, throughput, and power consumption compared to other encryption algorithms in the research. Rasefiberry architecture successfully processes both lightweight security programs and Openhab smarthome gateway programs with a lowperformance computing device such as Raspberry Pi.

Abstract

The lungs are the main organs in the respiratory system that have a function as a place for exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide. Due to the importance of lung function, indications of lung disorders must be detected and diagnosed early. Research on the classification of lung conditions generally uses chest x-ray image data. Where a time-consuming procedure is needed to obtain the data. In this research, an embedded system to diagnose lung conditions was designed. The system was made to be easy to use independently and provides real-time examination results. This system uses parameters of body temperature, oxygen saturation, fingernail color and lung volume in classifying lung conditions. There are three conditions that can be classified by the system, that is healthy lungs, pneumonia and tuberculosis. The k-nearest neighbor method was used in the classification process in the designed system. The dataset used was 51 data obtained from the hospital. Each data already has a label in the form of lung condition based on the doctor’s diagnosis. The proposed system has an accuracy of 88.24% in classifying lung conditions.

Abstract

Technological advancements have widely contributed to navigation aids. However, their large-scale adaptation for navigation solutions for visually impaired people haven’t been realized yet. Less participation of the visually impaired subject produces a designer-oriented navigation system which overshadows consumer necessity. The outcome results in trust and safety issues, hindering the navigation aids from really contribute to the safety of the targeted end user. This study categorizes electronic travel aids (ETAs) based on experimental evaluations, highlights the designer-centred development of navigation aids with insufficient participation of the visual impaired community. First the research breaks down the methodologies to achieve navigation, followed by categorization of the test and experimentation done to evaluate the systems and ranks it by maturity order. From 70 selected research articles, 51.4% accounts for simulation evaluation, 24.3% involve blindfolded-sighted humans, 22.9% involve visually impaired people and only 1.4% makes it into production and commercialization. Our systematic review offers a bird’s eye view on ETA development and evaluation and contributes to construction of navigational aids which really impact the target group of visually impaired people.

Abstract

Modern shopping centres are undoubtedly a beehive of intense shopping activities. However, customers are often plagued by salient challenges, which may include fatigue derived from pushing trolleys around the mall and prolonged sorting of bills by the cashier. These shopping challenges could be daunting for the elderly, disabled, pregnant and nursing mothers. In this paper, we addressed these shopping challenges by developing an autonomous shopping cart with the following characteristics; (1) it follows the customer’s movement relieving the need to push a cart, (2) it bills automatically all stock placed in the cart, (3) it prompts the customer to make payment and updates each stock via a local database. Our design adopts a Raspberry Pi, a camera and a few direct current motors programmed to achieve autonomy. We used an open-source cross platform software called XAMPP to create the database and used RFID tags to bill the items placed in the cart automatically. The system updates payments and communicates these transactions to a local database via nRF24 wireless transceivers. The experimental tests conducted demonstrate that our system successfully followed customers accurately within the mall. We consider our design a major contribution to the vision of automated shopping systems for the near future.

Abstract

This study analyzes the efficiency of parallel computational applications with the adoption of recent graphics processing units (GPUs). We investigate the impacts of the additional resources of recent architecture on the popular benchmarks compared with previous architecture. Our simulation results demonstrate that Pascal GPU architecture improves the performance by 273% on average compared to old-fashioned Fermi architecture. To evaluate the performance improvement depending on specific hardware resources, we divide the hardware resources into two types: computing and memory resources. Computing resources have bigger impact on performance improvement than memory resources in most of benchmarks. For Hotspot and B+ tree, the architecture adopting only enhanced computing resources can achieve similar performance gains of the architecture adopting both computing and memory resources. We also evaluate the influence of the number of warp schedulers in the SM (Streaming Multiprocessor) to the GPU performance in relationship with barrier waiting time. Based on these analyses, we propose the development direction for the future generation of GPUs.

Abstract

Among the structures using for fabricating white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) such as the conformal coating or in-cup geometries, the remote phosphor structure gives the highest luminous efficacy. However, in terms of color quality, its performance is not as good as the others. The red-light compensation has been reported as the effective solution for enhancing the color quality of WLEDs. Hence, this study adopted the idea and applied to the dual-layer phosphor structure. The phosphor used to boost the red color in light formation is (Y,Gd)BO3:Eu particle. The dual-layer remote phosphor structure was simulated with the red (Y,Gd)BO3:Eu phosphor layer above the original yellow phosphor YAG:Ce3+ one. The WLEDs with different correlated color temperatures of 5600 K, 6600 K and 7700K were experimented. Mie-theory and Lambert-Beer law were applied to examine the results. The growth in color rendering index (CRI) and color quality scale (CQS) with the increase of (Y,Gd)BO3:Eu phosphor concentration was observed. Nevertheless, the lumen efficacy would be degraded if the concentration was over a certain number. The information provided in this article is useful for the development of high-power WLED production with greater color quality.

Abstract

In this paper, an optimal speed controller for dc motor is considered using a PID controller and tuned its parameters of gain to offer an optimal solution by using a modified camel algorithm MCA approach. The proposed MCA scheme was applied to solve the difficulty of getting the optimum gains of PID parameters. The MCA has good evolutionary speed with the simple construction of optimization depend on camel searching performance. The characteristics of the MCA algorithm were confirmed by optimizing the gains parameters of proportional, integral, derivative PID controller. The performance of PID-MCA is comparing with a classic PID controller enhanced with GA genetic algorithm optimization method to tune the gain parameters of the speed controller system. It was shown that the utilize of optimization processes indicated better performance for the MCA procedure in term of speed of execution and the size of memory compared with the GA method by applying computer simulations analysis. The proposed scheme has an efficient feature that includes the ease of implementation, good efficiency of computational performances with stable convergence characteristics. The results indicated that the proposed MCA scheme is a useful tool for search ability, produced efficient outcomes compared with the GA optimized method when applied in the proposed system.
