Abstract

One of the most important issues associated with photovoltaic systems is receiving maximum power and tracking maximum power point. Hence, researchers have proposed numerous methods in recent years. The first step toward selecting a useful method is recognizing algorithms, methodology and advantages of each method. In this study MPPT methods are deeply investigated. For this purpose, first off, equations governing photovoltaic systems are explicated. Then, nonlinear behavior of photovoltaic cells is demonstrated by simulation. Finally, different methods of MPPT and their advantages are mentioned.

Abstract

This paper presents a new strategy based on Multi-stage Fuzzy (MSF) PID controller for damping Power System Stabilizer (PSS) in multi-machine environment using Modified Shuffled Frog Leaping (MSFL) algorithm. The proposed technique is a new meta-heuristic algorithm which is inspired by mating procedure of the honey bee. Actually, the mentioned algorithm is used recently in power systems which demonstrate the good reflex of this algorithm. Also, finding the parameters of PID controller in power system has direct effect for damping oscillation. Hence, to reduce the design effort and find a better fuzzy system control, the parameters of proposed controller is obtained by MSFL that leads to design controller with simple structure that is easy to implement. The effectiveness of the proposed technique is applied to Single machine connected to Infinite Bus (SMIB) and IEEE 3-9 bus power system. The proposed technique is compared with other techniques through ITAE and FD.

Abstract

In 3-phase systems, the reliability of 3-phase Inverter is not good. In such situations Paralleled Inverter Systems are used. Parallel Inverter operation has a major topic in uninterruptible power system (UPS) applications where the design is focused on the standalone operation, and output stage is typically an inductor-capacitor filter. Most of the standalone inverter systems use a LC filter and proportional-integral (PI) controller in their control loops. When connecting the paralleled inverters to utility grids, the capacitor becomes redundant and thus either a pure inductor or an LCL filter can be used as inverter output stage. Compared with the L filter, the LCL filter is more attractive because it cannot only provide higher harmonics attenuation with same inductance value, but also allow inverter to operate both in standalone and grid-tie modes, which makes it a universal inverter for distributed generation applications. Output of Inverter should always be checked. In this paper, a full order observer for Inverter System is designed and is used for estimation of State Variables of the Inverter System. Two modes are adopted: a) Grid-tie Mode b) Standalone Mode. MATLAB/Simulink is used to verify and validate the proposed idea.

Abstract

Abnormal vital signs often predict a serious condition of acutely ill hospital patients in 24 hours. The notable fluctuations of respiratory rate (RR) are highly predictive of deteriorations among the vital signs measured. Traditional methods of detecting RR are performed by directly measuring the air flow in or out of the lungs or indirectly measuring the changes of the chest volume. These methods require the use of cumbersome devices, which may interfere with natural breathing, are uncomfortable, have frequently moving artifacts, and are extremely expensive. This study aims to estimate the RR from electrocardiogram (ECG) and photoplethysmogram (PPG) signals, which consist of passive and non-invasive acquisition modules. Algorithms have been validated by using PhysioNet’s Multiparameter Intelligent Monitoring in Intensive Care II (MIMIC-II)’s patient datasets. RR estimation provides the value of mean absolute error (MAE) for ECG as 1.25 bpm (MIMIC-II) and 1.05 bpm for the acquired data. MAE for PPG is 1.15 bpm (MIMIC-II) and 0.90 bpm for the acquired data. By using 1-minute windows, this method reveals that the filtering method efficiently extracted respiratory information from the ECG and PPG signals. Smaller MAE for PPG signals results from fewer artifacts due to easy sensor attachment for the PPG because PPG recording requires only one-finger pulse oximeter sensor placement. However, ECG recording requires at least three electrode placements at three positions on the subject’s body surface for a single lead (lead II), thereby increasing the artifacts. A reliable technique has been proposed for RR estimation.

Abstract

The distribution of real banking outlets is based on the establishment of branches according to administrative division, which is obviously not rational in distribution. Against this phenomenon, this paper first analyzes the major factors that affect the distribution of outlets. Then, based on complex network, it puts forward the distribution model of outlets. Finally, it analyzes the model. At the same time, the paper takes the banking outlets of China Construction Bank of Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province for example. It employs the model to distribute and integrate its banking outlets. As a result, the distribution after integrating is more rational than the previous distribution, which verifies the rationality of the model and the distribution method of banking outlets.

Abstract

Due to dynamic nature of loads, total system load is more than its generation capacity that makes relieving of load on the feeders not possible and hence voltage profile of the system will not be improved to the required level. In order to meet required level of load demand, Reconfiguration and DG units are integrated in distribution network to improve voltage profile, to provide reliable and uninterrupted power supply and also to achieve economic benefits such as minimum power loss, energy efficiency and load leveling. This work proposes minimization of real power losses and improvement of voltage profile using network reconfiguration in the presence of distributed generation. Generally distributed generations (DG) are preferred with objective of minimizing real power loss and improving voltage profile in distribution system. In this work A meta heuristic Harmony Search Algorithm (HSA) is used to simultaneously reconfigure and identify the optimal locations for installation of DG units in a distribution network. Sensitivity analysis is used to identify optimal locations for installation of DG units. The proposed method has tested in MATLAB for 33-bus and 69- Bus radial distribution systems at three different load levels and the analysis is presented for loss minimization.

Abstract

Non edible seeds are used most of the applications but the dehydration of seed cakes is too difficult. And the same time the seeds could not feed food as animal. Hence, to adopt various techniques it can be used for other applications. 1 ton crude oil yield from 3 tons of seeds and the remaining becomes seed cake. After oil extraction using screw press machine, seed cake still has 10 % to 15 % of oil.  Hence this is a good combustible material with calorific value of approximately 600 Kcal/m3 and the electrical output voltage 180 – 200 at the range of 3.00 -3.5 amps. This paper deals with the power generation from Jatropha seed cake using gasification technology.

Abstract

A novel bidirectional DC-DC converter with high conversion ratio is proposed in this paper. The proposed converter uses the three windings coupled-inductor to achieved high voltage conversion ratio. The primary side consist of a winding and secondary side consist of two windings, which these two windings are series to achieved high voltage gain.In the boost mode, a capacitor is parallel charged and series discharged by the coupled inductor. Thus, high step-up voltage gain can be achieved with an appropriate duty ratio. In the buck mode, a capacitor is series charged and parallel discharged by the coupled inductor. The bidirectional converter can have high step-down voltage gain.The stress voltage of main switches can be reduced, and efficiency can be improved. The operating principle and the steady-state analyses of the voltage gain are discussed. Finally, in 24V for low voltage, and 400V for high voltage, and 200W for output power, this converter is simulated in MATLAB.

Abstract

In this paper interleaving and switched-capacitor techniques are used to introduce a high step-up DC-DC converter for renewable energy systems application. The proposed converter delivers high voltage gain without utilizing transformer or excessive duty cycle and features ripple-free input current which results in lower conduction losses and decreased electromagnetic interference (EMI). Lower output capacitance is another advantage of proposed converter, leading to smaller size and lower cost. Furthermore lower voltage stress on switches allows the utilization of switches with low resistance. Simulation results verify the performance of suggested converter.

Abstract

Modern electrical motors are available in many different forms with different mounting arrangements. To ensure a long life for the motor it is important to select it with correct degree of protection when operating under heavy duty conditions in a severe environment. Smooth starting is also one of major considerations to get long life and optimum efficiency. The conventional method to start an asynchronous motor with a soft starter is by reducing the voltage of the motor by varying the voltage “off time”. The “off time” could for example be controlled to achieve a desired maximum current level or a constant driving torque.  Even if the voltage is reduced the fundamental frequency of the voltage is equal to the supply voltage frequency. That gives a large difference between angular speed of supply voltage and angular speed of the rotor during start. Due to the large difference in angular speed the motor flux will be low and thereby also the ability to produce torque. Instead of using the conventional control method with a reduced voltage it is possible to use a method with controlled flux similar to frequency inverters for soft-starters. As the soft-starter does not have the intermediate DC energy storage the applied voltage vector has to be directly modulated from the mains supply.
