Abstract

Melastoma affine (MA) is a medicinal plant commonly found in south East Asiaand China. The aim of the study is to investigate the toxicity effect of MA toward vitalorgans. Thirty two Wistar adult male rats were divided into five groups consisting of sixanimals each the rats in group except control group, eight animals. The rats in group I(control) were administered 0.5% CMC Na orally, while CMC Na suspension of ethylacetate fraction of MA root (62.5, 125, 250,and 500 mg/kg body weight) were given tothe II, III, IV and V groups, respectively. The CMC Na suspensions of ethyl acetatefraction of MA root were administered for 22 days. Rats were sacrificed at the 23th day.Liver, kidney, testis were collected for histopathological observation. The observationresult on liver and kidney showed no difference compare to control groups, meanwhileon testis, the administration of ethyl acetate fraction of MA root at dose (250, 500 mg/kgbody weight) caused necrosis on seminiferus tubules and decreasing sperm counting.The conclusion, administration of ethyl acetate fraction of MA root caused toxicityeffect on testis with necrosis on seminiferus tubules.

Abstract

Essential oil of sere leaf has been proven as repellant against mosquitoes. Thisresearch aims to know about the influence of concentration sere essential oil(Cymbopogon citratus (DC) Stapf) in a vanishing cream bases to physical propertiesand repellant testing against female Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. Essential oil of sere(Cymbopogon citratus (DC) Stapf) was isolated with steam water distillation and wasevaluated the organoleptic appearance and refraction index. Furthermore, theessential oils were formulated in a vanishing cream base with the different formulas,contain formula I: 20% v/w; formula II: 30% v/ w and formula III: 40% v / w. Then thisthree formulas were evaluated for physical properties including adhesive, dispersiveand the repellent activity testing against female Aedes aegypti mosquitoes amount oftwenty mosquitoes per cage while seven female volunteers as the probandus. The datahave been analyzed using Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and t-test (Main-Whitney), with95% signifancy level. The results were obtained that the adhesion of formula I: 0.90 ±0.029 seconds, formula II: 0.60 ± 0.017 seconds, formula III: 0.46 ± 0.040 seconds,while the dispersion of formula I is 64.89 ± 4.559 cm2, the formula II is 64.71 ± 4.600 cm2 and the formula III is 54.96 ± 14.783 cm 2. The longest time repellent was formula IIIshowed 3014.2 ± 20.163 seconds or 50.23 minutes. It was concluded that the increase ofconcentration essential oils of sere leaf followed by the increase of repellant activity.

Abstract

To achieve optimal therapy of antibiotics isonefactor supporting the accuracy inprescribing antibiotics errors in prescribing can cause lack of rationality in the use ofantibiotics . Antibiotic was commonly used in the clinicor in private practice doctorsbut also in the centers of other health services such as polyclinics and hospitals theaim of this study is to assess antibiotic prescribing patterns and the level ofrationality the use of antibiotics in adult patients at one center of Yogyakarta on thebasis of data prescriptions. This Study used descriptive design with retrospective datacollection The data was collected from January to April 2010 Data source is aprescription of antibiotics in adult patients We analyzed the antibiotics prescription inthe study based on the selection appropriate dos age frequency and duration. Werecruited 320 patients receive ing antibiotics. The of antibiotics used were amoxicillin64.5 % ampicillin 11.3 % kontrimoksazol 15.9% chloramphenicol 0.6 % metronidazole2.8 % and etracycline 49 % Most of the Patients received a single antibiotic 97.9 %),while the remaining patients received a combination of antibiotics 2.1 % Allprescribing meet appropriate dosage, and frequency except cotrimoxazole (98%) andampicillin 49%). All prescriptions (100%) improper duration. In general antibioticsprescription for adult patients at one health center in Yogyakarta City is comply withthe standard use of antibiotics in Public Health Centers. However, the duration ofantibiotic utilization still became the perspective of the health providers in PublicHealth Centers.

Abstract

Fries Rearrangement of eugenyl acetate in order to study allilic substituentgroup influence has been done. Fries rearrangement of eugenyl acetate was done byheating at 120°C for 3 hours under AlCl3, dichloromethane as the catalyst and solvent,respectively. The structure of the compound was identified using Infra Redspectrometry (IR) and GC-MS. The result of te research showed that rearrangementfries of eugenyl acetate are not formed, but yielded lightly brown oil of dimmer.

Abstract

Kacapiring leaf (Gardenia augusta Merr.) was often used in traditional drugs fortreatment diabetes mellitus. This research aim to know the antihiperglycemic effectethanolic extract of kacapiring leaf on white rats male strain of Wistar and how muchantihiperglycemic effect compared with glibenklamid. This study used oral glucosetolerance test method with loading glucose 4,5 g/kgW. Tested animal where 24 whitemale rats strain of Wistar age 2-3 months with weight 180-250 gram, devided into 4groups, each groups consist of 6 rats. Group I was as negative control group givenCMC-Na 1%, group II was as positive control group given glibenklamid dose 1,35mg/kgBB, group III and IV where given ethanolic extract of kacapiring leaf dose 500mg/kgBB and 250 mg/kgBB. Glibenklamid and exstract are given orally 60 minutesbefore glucose. Blood was taken from orbitalis sinus at minute (-90), (-60), 0, 30, 60,120, 180, 240, and 300. Blood glucose level was determined with GOD PAP enzymaticmethod, absorbance was observed using spectrophotometer at 500 nm. The result of thestudy was performed by giving ethanolic extract of kacapiring leaf dose 500 mg/kgWand 250 mg/kgW had antihiperglycemic effect. Ethanolic extract of kacapiring leaf dose500 mg/kgW and 250 mg/kgW could reduce blood glucoce level 58,97% and 80,60%compared with glibenklamid dose 1,35 mg/kgW could reduce blood glucoce level73,93%.

Abstract

Carotenoid compound, include licopene and lutein, has ability to increaseimmune system. One of organs included in immune system is spleen. The objective of thestudy is to observe the effect of licopene to the histopathologic appearance of ratspleen. Twenty female Sprague Dawley rat, 1 month old, 100 grams of weight devideinto 4 groups. The first group got licopene dosage 3 ug/kg of body weight, the secondgroup got licopene dosage 6 ug/kg of body weight, the third group got corn oil (vehiclecontrol) and the fourth group got aquadest. The treatment were given during 17 days,orally. At the day 14, the first, second and third groups were injected by aloxansubcutaneuslly. Three days after injection of aloxan, all of rats were sacrified, spleenwere taken in order to histopathological examination. Histopathologic appearances ofspleen were analized descriptivelly. The result showed that licopene dosage 6 ug/kg ofbody weigh able to increase centrum germinativum formation of spleen white pulp morethan licopene dosage 3 ug/kg of body weight. Base on the result can be concluded thatlicopene administration can increase centrum germinativum formation of spleen whitepulp.

Abstract

The study of effect ethanolic extract Curcuma heyneana rhizoma as antihypertrigliseridaexamine of rats after given by dietary of high fat has been carried out.This experiment use 28 white male Wistar grooved rats with weight about 150-200gram body weight, at about 2 -3 months old. They were divided into seven grouprandomly and each group 4 rats. The first group was given by standart treatment ofdietary (BR II) and aquadest, the second group was given by dietary of high fatty andaquadest, the third group was given by CMC Na solution, the fourth was given bygemfibrosil in CMC Na suspension, the fifth group, the sixth group and the seventhwere orally given by of ethanolic extract with dose 10g/kgBW; 20 g/kgBW; and 40g/kgBW. Hyperlipidemia was treated with higth dietary fatty (5 gram fat cows and 10gram egg yolk) at the second period (two weeks). The treatment of ethanolic extractCurcuma heyneana rhizoma was given after hyperlipidemia. The trigliserida contentdetermined with GPO (Glycerol-3-Phosphate Oxidase) test. The trigliserida level inthe serum analyzed on the before treatment, during the treatment and after treatment.The result of the research showed that ethanolic extract Curcuma heyneana rhizoma 2weeks can decrease trigliserida level.

Abstract

Cervical cancer is a malignant tumor in cervix which is occupy the secondpossition that cause the death of Indonesia’s women under the breast cancer. One of thetraditional medicine that can be used to cure cancer is Phaleria macrocarpa(Scheff.) Boerl leaves. The petroleum eter extract of Phaleria macrocarpa(Scheff.) Boerl leaves has antiproliferation activity againts cervical cancer cell lines(HeLa) with IC50 9 µg/ml (Kintoko & Azimahtol Hawariah, 2007). This research wasaimed to detect cytotoxic activity of isolate 5 of ethyl acetate fraction of petroleum etherextract of Phaleria macrocarpa (Scheff.) Boerl leaves againts HeLa cell lines. Initially,the powder of Phaleria macrocarpa (Scheff.) Boerl was extracted using Soxhletapparatus with petroleum ether. The extracts was concentrated and partitioned untilethyl acetate fraction was obtained. The fraction of ethyl acetate was isolated usingPreparative Thin Layer Chromatography on silica gel F254 as stationary phase andn-hexane : ethyl acetate (9 : 1) as mobile phase. Cytotoxic activity against HeLa celllines was determinated by LC50 value by direct counting. The isolation by preparativethin layer chromatography resulted five isolate on Rf value : 0,05 ; 0,10 ; 0,20 ; 0,60 ;and 0,90. The LC50 values of isolate 5 (Rf : 0,90) was 123,60 µg/ml.

Abstract

The intervention led to various complications in dialysis patients includehypertension intradialitik as a result of hemodynamic changes.The phenomenon of theparadox of which caused activation of endogenous vasopresor due to changes involume status and antihypertensive medication terdialisisnya factor. This study aims todetermine patterns of use of antihypertensive drugs, evaluating the rationality and sideeffects of antihypertensive drugs based on literarur. This study was performed with thepatient’s condition based on the observation of patients to see medical records drugdata, laboratory data of patients and patient’s condition.Retrospective study ofhemodialysis patients in the hospital PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta year periodfrom 2009 to 2010. Patients according to inclusion criteria, anti-hypertensive drugreceipts and complete medical record data. Evaluation of rationality involves the use ofantihypertensive drugs right dose, right patient and side effects based on the DrugInformation Hand Book 2005, Handbook of Clinical Drug Data, 2002. The study found60 patients who fit the inclusion criteria. Based on the research patterns of use ofantihypertensive drugs in patients with hemodialysis is captoril, furosemide, nifedipine,lisinopril, amlodipine, valsatran and clonidin. Evaluation rationality inappropriate useof drugs dose use of captopril 11 patients of 34 patients and furosemide 18 patients from52 patients, inappropriate use of captopril patients was 9 patients of 34 patients.Sideeffects that occur in patients with hypokalemia due to the use of furosemide is 40patients, cough due to captopril was 13 patients, side effects of nifedipinegastrointestinal disorders cough and 11 patients, 5 patients coughlisinopril. Conclusion:he use of antihypertensive medications in hemodialysispatientsat RSU PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta is rational.
