Abstract

The increase in life expectancy caused geriatric population is also increasing. Geriatric patient is identicalto the decline in physiological function that can lead to various diseases. Self medication in geriatric requirespecial attention from the pharmacist. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of geriatric thatdoes self medication and assosation factors in geriatric patients doing the self medication in Sleman. This researchwas conducted using a survey to determine the presence of pharmacy in Sleman. Determination of pharmaciesconducted with a purposive sampling technique and determination of areas of research subjects or respondentswith accidental sampling. Subjects were geriatric patients with age> 60 years who did self medication inpharmacies. The data were analyzed by using chi-square statistic to determine which are the most influentialassociation factors. The research subjects in this study was 38 respondents. The pattern of disease that occur ingeriatric patients who performs a self-medication is a chronic 12 respondens, non-respondens and 16 non chronicrespondens ten respondens is unknown. Factors that association geriatric patients that is doing self medication isown of health insurance. The results of the chi square test showed that the sex factor with OR 1,11 ( p >0,05),ownership asurance (OR = 1,841,p < 0,05,CI : 1,184 – 2,184) is a factor of self association with geriatric patientsmedications at the pharmacy of district Sleman.

Abstract

Isolation of peat soil humic acid and its application for adsorption reduction of Au(III) have beenconducted. Humic acid was isolated from peat soil that was collected from Rawa Pening, Central Java. Isolation ofhumic acid from peat soil was based on conventional alkaline extraction method. Humic acid was extracted frompeat soil with NaOH 0.1 M, then precipitated with 0.1 M HCl, and purified with 0.1 M HCl/0.3 M HF 1/1. Theisolated humic acid was characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, then applied for adsorption and reduction process ofAu (III).Adsorption kinetics on adsorption reduction process of Au (III) also were studied. The gold metal formedwas confirmed by XRD diffractogram, and photo optical microscope. The adsorption rate constant (k) withSantosa kinetics model for humic acid is 0.0065 min-1.Peaks of gold particles in the difractogram are 2 = 38, 44,and 64.

Abstract

Gastrointestinal surgery is a surgery that has a high risk of the incidence of surgical wound infection (ILO).Surgical wound infection is the result of bacterial contamination when the operation happens. The purpose of thisstudy was to determine the pattern of post operative antibiotics usage in patients undergone gastrointestinalsurgery at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital in Bantul. The result of this study was expected to be useful as a sourceof information on patterns of post operative antibiotics that used, as well as for a base for next studies. This studywas a descriptive non-experimental research that prospectively held at PKU Muhammadiyah Bantul YogyakartaHospital. Subjects for this study were all patients who had undergone gastrointestinal surgery, which hospitalizedat PKU Muhammadiyah Bantul Yogyakarta Hospital and met the inclusion criteria. As for the inclusion criteria inthis study i.e., patients who have undergone gastrointestinal surgery, patients undergo hospitalization, as well aspatients that use antibiotics for ILOs prevention. The data analyzed was data of patterns on antibiotics usage thatused to prevent ILO incident. Based on this study showed that the usage of the most widely used post operativeantibiotics is a combination of Ceftriaxon and Cefadroxil as many as 28 patients (47,46%). Intravenous antibioticsthat mostly used is Ceftriaxon as many as 43 patients (6,29%), whereas for the most of oral antibiotics isCefradoxil as many as 45 patients (76,27%).

Abstract

Aldrin and dieldrin pesticide residue in soil and water samples from Srigading Village, Sanden District,Bantul Regency has been investigated. The purpose of this study were to analyze, identificate and evaluatepyrethroid pesticide residues in soil and water samples. Soil sample was extracted using shaker with acetonesolvent. Water samples was extracted using separator funnel with 15% (v/v) dichloromethane/n-hexanesolvent.Clean-up was couducted using chromatography column using florisil and determination of pesticideresidue in the samples was carried out by gas chromatography apparatus equipped with electron capture detector(GC-ECD). The result showed that pesticide residues in soil sample in the range level: aldrin (4,8-64,8 ppb) anddieldrin (not detected-6,0 ppb). In water sample pesticide residues in the range level: aldrin (not detected-1,0 ppb)dan dieldrin (-not detected1,2 ppb). The quality or water sample taken from onion field is laid under the standardof water that has been settled.

Abstract

Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb is one of the plants containing curcumin. Curcumin has anti-amyloidogenic,antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activity that can prevent dementia. The aim of the research was to know theeffect of Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb rhizome ethanol extract (CREE) to spatial memory on dementia model ratinduced by trimethyltin (TMT). This research use 30 rats, divided into 6 groups, each group consisted of 5 rats. Allgroupswere given trimethyltin intraperitoneal lyexcep tgroup I.Group I (healthy controls) and group II (TMT/illness control) were given a solution of 1% CMC-Na orally. Group III (drug control) were given citicoline 200mg/kgBW orally. Group IV, V, and VI were given CREE orally dose 50 mg/kgBW, 100 mg/kgBW, and 150mg/kgBW respectively. Data of spatial memory were obtained by Morris water maze test consisted of acquisitiontrial, and a probe trial. Data from the test then statistically analyzed by one-way repeated measure ANOVA.Morris water maze test showed that there were significant differences (p<0,05) between TMT group comparedwith CREE dose 50 mg/kgBW, 100 mg/kgBW, and 150 mg/kgBW group. But there was no significant difference(p>0,05) between CREE dose100 mg/kgBW group anddrug control group.Based on the research results can beconcluded that ethanol extract Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb rhizome at dose of 100 mg/kgBW can improvespatial memory on dementia model rat induced by trimethyltin.

Abstract

Ibuprofen is an anti inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic agent. It has low solubility and bioavailability.The administration of ibuprofen in a long time and high dose can increased of side effect at gastrointestinal (pepticulcer). This study was aimed to determine the influence its solid dispersions formation on ulcerogenic effect ofibuprofen buprofenis compared with ibuprofen alone and physical mixture. Solid dispersion of Ibuprofen-PVP(1:1) was prepared by solvent method. The ulcerogenic test was conducted by observing is white rat, dividedrandomly into 5 groups are healthy group (aquadest), suspending agent control (PVP 1%), drug (ibuprofen) at adose of 360 mg/kg body weight, group solid dispersion (ibuprofen-PVP) and group physical mixture(ibuprofen-PVP). Rats gastric was observed of formation ulcer and evaluated by scoring then followed thecalculation by the index ulcer. The results showed that the number of ulcer index of ibuprofen is 6,67. Number ofulcer index of solid dispersion was 4,00 and physical mixture was 3,34. The ulcerogenic effect of solid dispersionand physical mixture difference was significant (p<0,05) compared with ibuprofen alone. Ulcerogenic effectadministration of solid dispersion was smaller than ibuprofen alone and statistically no different (p>0,05)compared with physical mixture.

Abstract

The extract quality can be affected by the components and concentration of chemical compounds containedin the extract.Type and quantities of chemical compounds that are dissolved in the extraction process is stronglyinfluenced by the solvent extraction. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of concentration of ethanol assolvent extraction on naphthoquinone content in Henna leaves extract. The extraction method was done bymaceration for one hours with water, ethanol 50% , 70% , 90% and 95% v/v solvens of the dried Henna leavespowder. Each macerate was made 5 % w/v concentration and than was spotted 5 µL on plate of silica gel F 254 andeluted with mixture of chloroform - methanol (17:3 v/v) as mobile phase. The spots on chromathogram werescanning and measured the area under curve with TLC densitometer at maximum wave lenght. The results showedthat spot at Rf 0.31 had similar spectra with naphthoquinone standard and same maximum wavelength at 279 nm.The result of solvent optimization indicated that the best solvent extraction for Henna leaves was ethanol 50% v/vwith the highest naphthoquinone contentat 1.43 ± 0.1942% w/v.

Abstract

Elephantopus scaber Linn. has been reported to have cytotoxic effects on breast cancer cells and thepotential to be developed as anticancer agent. This study aims was to determine the cytotoxic activity andapoptosis induction effect of petroleum ether fractions of ethanolic extract of (Elephantopus scaber Linn) leavesagainst cervical cancer cells (HeLa). Petroleum ether fraction was obtained by dissolving eyhanolic extract inpetroleum ether, and the soluble fraction was as petroleum ether fraction. The method used for cytotoxic activitytest was MTT test. The concentration series used were 2000; 1500; 1000; 800; 400; 200; 100; 50; 25; 12.5; 6.25and 3.125 mg/ml. The IC50 used as cytotoxic parameters. The apoptotic observations was conducted usingacridine orange and ethidium bromide. The study showed the IC50 of petroleum ether fraction of (Elephantopusscaber Linn) ethanolic extract was 185 ug/ml. The study also showed the potency to stimulate apoptosis in HeLacells.

Abstract

Propanolol is a non-selective beta-blocker that is used widely to overcome cardiovascular disorder.Development of propranolol in transdermal delivery is necessary to avoid the first pass metabolism that reducesthe active metabolite up to 15-23% left. This study was objected to determine the effect of VCO (Virgin CoconutOil) concentration as a base and penetration enhancer of propranolol in the cold cream preparation through rat skinmembrane in vitro. Variation concentration of VCO (0%, 14%, 28%, and 42%) was added to propanolol coldcream. Transdermal in vitro study was performed using vertical type diffusion cell with PBS pH 7,4 as receptormedia. The temperature was maintained at 35ºC with a constant stirring rate at 300 rpm. The transport wasconducted for 8 hours. Flux, efficiency, and lag time were calculated as responses. The results showed that flux atvarious concentration of VCO (0%, 14%, 28%, 42%) were 12,30; 14,13; 14,52; and 23,06 -1 cm-2respectively. The transport efficiency were 6,5x10-4; 7,5x10-4; 8,1x10-4; and 1,22x10-3 % cm-2 respectively. Thelag time were 1,13; 1,26; 1,11; and 0,92 hours respectively. It can be concluded that the VCO can be used mainlyas a base in the preparation of cold cream and can increase percutaneous permeation of propranolol significantly(p <0.05). VCO concentration of 42% has the highest performance.

Abstract

The source of lead pollution (Pb) can come from cosmetic product including shampoo. The purpose of thisresearch are to know wether there is Pb in the shampoo cosmetic based on different brands and colours of theshampoo. The sample of the shampoos that used in this research are A, B, C, and D. Each of the samples replicated5 times, then analyzed with atomic absorbtion specktrophotometry. Then, one of the sample are taken from onebrand with different colour and replicated 5 times. The result of this research shows that from the different brandof shampoos contain Pb. The average level of Pb that obtained from analysis are, brand A (0,4838 ppm 0,0538ppm), brand B (0,6935 ppm 0,3131 ppm), brand C (0,8354 ppm 0,0405 ppm), and brand D ( 0,9517 ppm0,0811 ppm). Whereas for the same shampoo brand but different in colour had average level of Pb: shampoo I (redcolour)= (0,5428 0,0192) ppm, Shampoo II (yellow colour) = (0,3606 0,0255) ppm, Shampoo III (blue colour)= (0,4385 0,0062) ppm, and Shampoo IV (green colour) = (0,1427 0,0133) ppm.
