THE DEVELOPMENT OF QUESTIONNAIRE TO INVESTIGATE STUDENTS ATTITUDES AND APPROACHES IN PHYSICS PROBLEM SOLVING

Abstract

This study aims to develop physics problem solving survey utilized to obtain students’ attitude and approach while solving physics problem. Several steps are conducted to develop the survey: validating, computing reliability, and testing. This research involves Physics Education students-Tanjungpura University who study at Fourth and Sixth semester. Furthermore, after questionnaire administered to the students, data are analysed through determining average score of the students and computing average percentage of students who are agree, neutral, and disagree based on semester and gender. The results show that the sixth semester students’ responses are more expertlike than those of the fourth semester students and female students are less expert than those male students. Based on semester and gender, majority of students have the same attitudes and approaches while solving problems. Students and experts have different attitudes about the role of mathematics in problem solving.

Abstract

The purposes of this study are to develop, to test the feasibility, to describe the characteristic, and to test the students understanding about integrated science teaching material about air using Four Steps Teaching Material Development (4S TMD). The Research and Development method was use to develop integrated science teaching materials which is involving  all science perspectives that are not presented in junior high school science book. The air theme was chosen in this study since it can be explained using biology, chemistry, physics, and earth and space science  perspectives. Development the teaching materials was consists of selection, structuring, characterization, and reduction didactic steps. Based on the of feasibility test results, the teaching material is qualified in content, presentation, language, and graphic feasibility aspects. The characteristic of this teaching material expose the closeness theme with student daily lifes and its compatibility with National Books Standard. Based on the understanding test results, the teaching material is qualified in understanding aspect with high category. It can be concluded that the teaching material qualified to be used as supplement teaching material of science learning.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan, menguji kelayakan, memaparkan karakteristik, dan menguji keterpahaman bahan ajar IPA terpadu pada tema udara untuk siswa SMP kelas VII melalui Four Steps Teaching Material Development (4S TMD). Penelitian dengan metode Research and Development (RD) ini dilatar belakangi oleh tidak tersedianya bahan ajar IPA SMP yang disajikan secara terpadu melalui tema udara. Pengembangan bahan ajar IPA terpadu tema udara terdiri dari tahap seleksi, strukturisasi, karakterisasi dan reduksi didaktik. Berdasarkan uji kelayakan, bahan ajar telah memenuhi aspek kelayakan isi, kelayakan penyajian, kelayakan bahasa dan kelayakan kegrafikan. Karakteristik bahan ajar meliputi kedekatan tema bahan ajar dengan siswa, dan kesesuaian bahan ajar dengan standar BSNP. Berdasarkan uji keterpahaman, bahan ajar telah memenuhi aspek keterpahaman dengan kategori tinggi. Hasil penelitian ini adalah bahan ajar IPA terpadu berupa buku dengan tema udara yang telah melewati empat tahap pengembangan yang dapat digunakan sebagai bahan ajar pendamping pembelajaran IPA.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to test the effectiveness of the implementation of learning device with scientific approach to improve student life skills. The research uses one group pre test–post test design. Subjects in this study were students of grade ten (class X). Implementation of learning device supports effectively in learning activities if the implementation of a lesson plan by teachers, student social skills and student academic skills at least in a good category. The results showed that the implementation of lesson plan by teachers to get the average value of 3.38 are in the very good category, gain value of the student social skill at average value of 3.03 is in the very good category, and gain of student academic skill at average value of 76 is in the good category. It concludes that the implementation of learning tools with scientific approach support effectively in learning activities.
CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS IN INTEGRATED SCIENCE LEARNING VIEWED FROM LEARNING MOTIVATION

Abstract

The study aimed to determine the effect of Predict Discuss Explain Observe Discuss Explain and Small Group Discussion strategies toward critical thinking skills and the influence of learning motivation toward critical thinking skills. This study was a quasi experiment with the non-equivalent pretest-posttest design. Data were analysed by inferential statistics of two way analysis of variance and regression analysis. The results showed that Predict Discuss Explain Observe Discuss Explain and Small Group Discussion strategies were influential toward critical thinking skills and the average of students critical thinking skills using Small Group Discussion strategy was better than those experiencing Predict Discuss Explain Observe Discuss Explain strategy. Furthermore, learning motivation were also influential toward critical thinking skills. Students having high learning motivation were better than students having low learning motivation. Regression analysis showed learning motivation and critical thinking skills have positive correlation. Influence of learning motivation toward critical thinking skill was about 6.4%.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh strategi Predict Discuss Explain Observe Discuss Explain dan Small Group Discussion terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis, dan pengaruh motivasi belajar terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian quasi experiment menggunakan desain the non-equivalent pretest-posttest. Data dianalisis menggunakan statistik inferensial Analisi Varian dua jalur dan analisis regresi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa strategi Predict Discuss Explain Observe Discuss Explain dan Small Group Discussion berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis, rata-rata kemampuan berpikir krtis siswa yang menggunakan strategi Small Group Discussion lebih baik daripada siswa yang menggunakan strategi Predict Discuss Explain Observe Discuss Explain. Selain itu, motivasi belajar berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis. Rata-rata kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa yang mempunyai motivasi belajar tinggi lebih baik daripada siswa yang mempunyai motivasi belajar rendah. Berdasarkan analisis regresi, motivasi belajar dan kemampuan berpikir kritis memiliki hubungan yang positif. Motivasi belajar memberikan pengaruh sebesar 6,4% terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis.

Abstract

Behavioral problems become special attention to learning. Some teachers confronted with a variety of student behaviors and varied learning outcomes. This research was aimed to determine the relationship between learning outcomes and student learning behavior with ranking score. A total of 91 of 10th-grade students with three different classes became respondents. The research was used Mixed methods with the sequential explanatory approach. Quantitative data were obtained by giving multiple-choice questions. The interview method was used to collect qualitative data. Kruskal Wallis test was used to analyze quantitative data and the interview transcript analyzed by the keyword of student behavior in learning physics. The results show that behavior while learning is very significant towards student learning outcomes. Interview findings show that student behavior during the learning process could affect learning outcomes.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh media riil terhadap keterampilan proses sains siswa Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan (SMK) pada pembelajaran fisika. Desain penelitian menggunakan desain faktorial dengan menambahkan gaya belajar VARK sebagai variabel moderator. Sampel penelitian menggunakan teknik cluster random sampling berjumlah 208 siswa SMK di Kota Mataram, terbagi dalam kelompok eksperimen yang menggunakan media riil dan kelompok kontrol yang menggunakan media teks. Analisis pengaruh media riil terhadap keterampilan proses sains menggunakan Analisis Varian (ANOVA) pada α=0.05. Hasil uji ANOVA disimpulkan media riil berpengaruh secara signifikan terhadap keterampilan proses sains dan setiap indikator keterampilan proses sains. Analisis pengaruh penggunaan media riil terhadap keterampilan proses sains ditinjau dari gaya belajar VARK dengan uji Tukey pada α =0.05. Hasil uji Tukey diperoleh kesimpulan, penggunaan media riil berdasarkan gaya belajar VARK tidak berpengaruh secara signifikan terhadap keterampilan proses sains dan setiap indikator keterampilan proses sains. This study aims to determine the effect of real media towards vocational students’ scientific process skills (SPS) on Physics class. The study was performed by using factorial design and adding VARK learning style as moderator variable. Sampling technique used was cluster random sampling involving 208 students from SMK in Mataram who were divided into experimental group that used real learning media and control group that used worksheets. The influence of real learning media on SPS was analyzed by ANOVA with α=0.05. Based on ANOVA test, it was concluded that real media significantly influences on SPS and each indicator of SPS. Analysis of the influence of real learning media on SPS from different VARK learning styles’s students was performed by applying Tukey's test at α=0.05. Based on the Tukey test, it was found that real media did not significantly affect to SPS and each indicator of SPS of students.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to explore the impact of interactive-conceptual-instruction with visualization on logic thinking, conceptual understanding and spiritual aspect embedding. The sampling technique used in this research was convenience sampling. This research used mixed methods with embedded experiment design. The data of logic thinking and conceptual understanding was collected through pre-test and post-test. The questionnaires were used to collect data on spiritual attitudes and were analyzed qualitatively. The results showed that logic thinking-ability improves from no logic thinking to inductive-deductive logic thinking. The improvement of logic thinking abilities was in the medium category. Understanding the concept shifted from incompetent to conceptual understanding with improvement, in the medium category. The questionnaires analysis showed that the students got spiritual values related to the awareness of God believing behind the natural phenomena that impact on their spiritual attitudes. This study also tried to apply the results of pure science research to support learning activities. Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that the learning process using interactive conceptual with visualization can improve logic thinking, conceptual comprehension, and spiritual attitude embeding.
PENGARUH KARET ALAM SIKLIK (CYCLIC NATURAL RUBBER) TERHADAP RONGGA ASPAL MODIFIKASI

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh karet alam siklik terhadap rongga aspal modifikasi. Tahapan peneltian meliputi pembuatan aspal modifikasi dengan menyampur aspal murni dengan karet alam siklik, pengujian persyaratan fisik aspal, pembuatan benda uji dan pengujian marshall. Berdasarkan pengujian sifat fisik aspal diperoleh data bahwa keseluruhan aspal modifikasi memenuhi persyaratan fisik aspal. Setelah pembuatan benda uji, dilakukan pengujian marshall untuk memperoleh rongga aspal meliputi VIM, VMA dan VFA. Nilai VIM pada penambahan 0 phr, 1 phr, 2 phr, 3 phr, dan 4 phr adalah 3,65%, 5,41%, 4,27%, 3,84%, dan 2,88%. Nilai VMA sebesar 15,52%, 17,26%, 16,07%, 15,80%, dan 15,17%. Nilai VFA sebesar 76,48%, 68,72%, 73,54%, 75,76%, dan 81,34%. Diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa karet alam siklik bisa dijadikan sebagai bahan memodifikasi aspal dan berpengaruh terhadap rongga aspal.This research aimed to determine the effect of cyclic natural rubber (CNR) to cavity of modified bitumen. The steps of the research were mixing the pure bitumen with CNR, testing bitumen physical requirement, making the specimen, and testing the cavity of modified bitumen with marshall method. Testing showed that all the modified bitumen met the physical requirement. After making specimen, marshall method was used to determine the cavity of bitumen, including VIM, VMA, and VFA. VIM in addition of 0 phr, 1 phr, 2 phr, 3 phr, and 4 phr was 3,65%, 5,41%, 4,27%, 3,84%, and 2,88%. The value of VMA was 15.52%, 17.26%, 16.07%, 15.80% and 15.17%. The value of VFA was 76.48%, 68.72%, 73.54%, 75.76% and 81.34%. The conclusion of this study was CNR could be used as material for bitumen modified and had the effect on bitumen cavity.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas model pembelajaran kontekstual dengan metode POE terhadap pencapaian kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi siswa pada materi fluida statis. Jenis penelitian ini adalah kuasi eksperimen dengan desain kelompok pretes-postes. Pengambilan sampel dengan teknik acak sederhana untuk menentukan kelas eksperimen dan kontrol. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah tes berupa instrumen soal pretes dan postes. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan yaitu uji t satu pihak berdasarkan nilai sig.serta normalized gain (N-gain). Hasil analisis data penelitian menunjukkan bahwa model pembelajaran kontekstual dengan metode POE berpengaruh positif dan mampu meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi siswa daripada siswa yang menggunakan metode konvensional. Hal ini ditunjukkan dengan hasil uji t dengan nilai sig. skor posttest yaitu 0,001 dan hasil uji peningkatan dengan N-gain kelas eksperimen berada pada kategori sedang, lebih tinggi daripada kategori kelas kontrol yaitu rendah. This research aimed to know the effectiveness contextual teaching and learning models (CTL) with POE methods toward high order thinking skill students’ attainment on static fluids. The kind of this research is quasi experiment with Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. Sample’s taking has done with simple random sampling technique to find experiment and control class. The technique that being used isinstrument test called pretest and posttest matter. Technique of analizing data using t-test one tailed beside sig. value and normalized gain (N-gain). The data analysis result showed that CTL models with POE methods influential possitive and could raising students’s high order thinking skill than student use conventional method.  This was showed by result sig. value posttest score got 0,001 and result of attainment with N-gain got experiment class there medium category, highest than control class category is low .
Physics Learning Design of Faraday's Induction Law Material Using PhET Simulation

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to make a learning design on Faraday’s Induction Law using a PhET Faraday’s Electromagnetic Lab simulation and to investigate the effectiveness of the design on students' understanding. Descriptive research was used as the method of this research. The instruments of this research were the observation sheet on students' attitudes and learning activities, questionnaires, and cognitive evaluation test questions. There were 14 students of grade IX of a Junior High School in Salatiga as the respondents of this research. The data collected from the research instruments were then analyzed using the descriptive qualitative technique. Based on data analysis of the observation results of learning activities, students' attitudes, questionnaires, and cognitive evaluation test scores; the results showed that the learning design for Faraday’s Induction Law using the PhET simulation of Faraday's Electromagnetic Lab was effective to help students understand the Faraday's Induction Law.
