Abstract

Abstract The main factor in trip assignment models is the perception of trip makers about their travel costs. In real condition, trip makers usually do not obtain accurate information to estimate their travel costs.  Travel costs are usually expressed using a linguistic term, such like “travel time from A to B is about 10 minutes”, which can not be measured precisely (values with a specific range). Using fuzzy method, the ”about” condition can be formulated in the term of fuzzy set with a value having lower-bound and upper-bound boundaries. The set is called fuzzy-travel-cost. In this paper, the trip assignment using fuzzy-travel-cost is compared with that using the deterministic travel cost. The result shows that fuzy-travel-cost model gives a better result than the deterministic travel cost model. Keywords: trip assignment model, fuzzy-travel-cost, fuzzy-shortest-path

Abstract

Abstract This paper provides insights of the current state of public transport in East Asian Mega-cities, their characteristics that make them different with other public transport systems in other parts of the world. A combination of high percentage of public transport use, existence of para-transit, poor service quality to respond with high level of motorizations are some of the features of urban public transport in East Asian developing cities. Data from Tokyo, Shanghai, Seoul, Taipei, Ho Chi Minh City, Manila, Jakarta, and Bangkok are analyzed to develop a thorough understanding on the specific features of public transport in the East Asian Mega-cities. Several reform policies and strategies are proposed, including promoting public transport technology to shift the competition from costs to quality, fare integration, suitable financing options, and an appropriate implementation timing, as well as developing a public transport hierarchy to suit the increasing demand for urban mobility. Keywords: East Asia, urban area, public transport, reform strategy.

Abstract

Abstract Low quality of service in urban public transport results in the people preference to use private vehicles over the public transportation. This study tries to evaluate some performance standards implemented in some cities in the world. Based on this study, the standardization of urban transport performance for Indonesian cities is needed so that public transport service in those cities can be provided at optimum level. The standardization of public transportation service should address the needs of passenger, operator, regulator, and other users. In addition, the standardization has to consider sustainable environment and law enforcement as well. Keywords: standardization, urban transportation, performance

Abstract

Abstract            Without significant efforts to reduce the number of accidents which causes deaths, the fatal accidents in traffic road, will follow the prediction of WHO (1999) becoming “the third biggest disease” after ischaemic heart disease and unipolar major depression in 20 years period ahead until year 2020. Since the record system of road traffic accidents in Indonesia is not as same as the record system of international traffic accident, then the data of road traffic accident in Indonesia has to be converted. Based on the results of a simple study in Bandung, these review used conversion factor of 1.25 to convert data of fatal accident in Indonesia. By using this conversion factor, it is found that the number of road accident fatalities in Indonesia is 36,000 persons per year, with the rate of accident is 33 persons per 10,000 vehicles. Keywords: traffic accident, fatal accident, accident rate, data of accident, and conversion factor.

Abstract

Abstract Traffic accident is a serious problem in the city of Makassar.  This study tries to describe the characteristics of traffic accident in that city. Samples were collected and surveys were conducted using interview and questionnaire techniques. The results show that the traffic accident victims in Makassar are dominated by students, with the age ranging from 16 years to 21 years. The largest portion of the victims in this city used motor cycles when involved in traffic accidents. Keywords: traffic accident, accident characteristic, and accident victim.

Abstract

Abstract The transportation production cost (TPC) considerably has strong influence to the national economic condition. This paper focused on the analysis of the transportation production cost sensitivity in relation to the variation of the external affecting factor, which are fuel price, rupiah exchange rate and Bank of Indonesia interest rate. Based on the R2 values, the TPC components in general have significant correlation, with the fuel prices. However, they do not have high correlation to the fluctuation of interest rate and rupiah exchange rate. The sensitivity analysis shows that a 10% rise on fuel price would cause 6%, 2%, 7%, 2.4%, and 4.9% rise on the TPC of intercity bus, ferry ship, interisland ship, train, and airline, respectively. Keywords: sensitivity analysis, transportation production cost, external affecting factor.

Abstract

Abstract The public transport service is very important for people who live in a city. The service is, therefore, to be maintained to satisfy the public transport users. This study aims to investigate the performance of bus service in the city of Bandar Lampung. The indicators used to measure the performance are those of the World Bandk. The results suggest that, in general, routes investigated have met the accessibility standards of the Worls Bank. Keywords: bus service, bus performance, and performance  indicator.

Abstract

Abstract Travel, most often viewed in theory as derived from the demand for activity participation, has almost always been modeled on the trip-based basis, i.e., the trip is treated as the unit of analysis. Attributes of a trip (e.g., its origin and destination, mode, length) have been the subjects of analysis, but not the types of activities engaged in, their durations, sequences, and timing. This paper offers a brief review of the travel behavior analysis in order to provide a better understanding and forecasting of travel behavior. The article further offers discussions on its possible applications in urban areas of developing countries where historical accumulations of transportation and communications technologies are being introduced within a short span of time, creating the environment for travel which may not be properly accounted for using the conventional trip-based models of travel demand. In addition, the dataset from Malaysia was employed as a case of study. Keywords: travel behavior, travel, demand, transportation planning, developing cities.
